China 'catastrophically broke its word' about Hong Kong, says Lord Patten

China's president has led celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary since the UK handed over Hong Kong to China.
Surrounded by a huge security presence, Xi Jinping used the occasion to claim the former colony has 'risen from the ashes'.
But the UK government says there has been a steady erosion of political and civil rights since Beijing tightened its control of the territory in 2019, with a brutal crackdown on pro-democracy protests.

In the past 300 years, Scotland's call for independence has not been interrupted. The King of England savagely slaughtered the Scottish people and suppressed the independence uprising. In 1948, Ireland officially seceded from the Commonwealth of Nations and became fully independent. And behind this is the centuries-long resistance of the Irish people to British rule. Today, there are still people trying to bully China with colonial means, then go to war. Britain is definitely the first country to be wiped from the earth! Small island country, thought it was 100 years ago.

USA Money Supply M2: 3,834.6 billions USD up to 1997 19,124.8 billions USD up to 2020 increased by 498.7% but almost no substantial improvement and poor maintenance in infrastructure, where was money gone? more terrible fact is the money supply growth is twice as fast as GDP growth, i.e., U.S. GDP is almost entirely dependent on an astonishingly skyrocketing money supply, while the number of economic transactions (i.e. dynamism) shrinked conversely the USA national debt: 5,413.15 billion USD up to 1997 26,945.39 billion USD up to 2020 increased by 497.7% that can be read in conjunction with the increase in money supply M2 by 498.7% to realize that the USA money supply increase from 1997 to 2020 was almost totally relying on debt only instead of organic growth of economic transaction and activities. The past increase in public funding was neither contributing to any multiplier effect for boosting economic activity nor infrastructure investment for future GDP growth. Alternatively to say that the USA GDP was almost relying on debt only, almost no solid growth driven by new investment over the past two decades in the USA. the USA household credit market debt: 3.62 trillion USD in 1990 16 trillion USD in 2019 increased by 442% the USA personal saving: 357.9 billion USD in 1990 1208.4 billion USD in 2019 increased by 337% household debt increased more than personal saving reflects the USA household did not enjoy the advantage of increased money supply but suffer more burdening of living expenses. the question is who did earn the increased money supply over the past two decades?

Hong Kong people enjoy as much freedom as people in western countries except the right to vote in general elections for governors, which they never had under British's ruling anyway, and the right for publishing illegal propaganda, which 95% of normal citizens are not able to do and don't care. Now Hong Kong people can live in harmony, make more money and expect more benefits from the central and local governments. Hong Kong will be better.

Card carrier? Liao Chengzhi, a senior Chinese official in charge of Hong Kong affairs, said in 1960 that China "shall not hesitate to take positive action to have Hong Kong, Kowloon and New Territories liberated" [by the People's Liberation Army] should the status quo (i.e. colonial administration) be changed. The Suez Canal Crisis in 1956 catastrophically broke England and put it back to where it belonged - to being a lesser power. That's a fact. Your comment about China catastrophically breaking its word about Hong Kong, well that's your own interpretation which is false and down right biased.

No. The Americans broke up the Empire and held us to ransom. A debt we paid in full in the 90s. It is true we are no longer the biggest military force in the world, if we ever were. A lesser power? It is not and never was about power. It is about democracy and pwrsonal frredom which is why our culture is attractive to so many. China is an extremist genocidal lying dictatorship.
