You can see that Chimamanda didn't take any offence by it & that he seemed to be mesmerised by her, even at the end, when he's back in the studio, you can see by his smile that it was a fond memory for him... I think he was definitely enthralled by her... I mean... who isn't?! She's amazing!

And we have loved learning about our hair, how to care for it properly so it will stay moist and grow.. things I never knew growing up.. she's only 13, but as a young black woman, it's important for her to not be ashamed of her natural fro, and she's not! She wears it out anyhow! I could go on.. we lived our locks, but nothing beats having your natural hair out 🥰😍🥰

Esse Quia you can still be a bigot and be married to a race you hate or dislike in order to fulfill your agenda against the ppl you hate/dislike. That spouse will end up being apart of the process and don’t even know it. Or maybe they do know about it but remain silent just to stay accepted or relevant in their circle! So his wife being black is no big deal! He can still be a bigot.

I every culture and color for woman hair is a statement who they are. For the Hopi tribe they had a styl that the younger would wear and when the became a woman it changed but was the same as the older woman. Our mothers and aunties taught us who we were and who we belonged. Braids and corn rolls were for every one at a time in history. We belonged to a tribe that belonged to a nation of other tribes.

But the flip side if the political hair violates safety rules for job that could be dangerous then yes do not hire them or demand either they cut their hair or take care of their hair in a manner that will satisfy the safety requirements.

She is a bit too frank for the British audience. But as a Black woman I wear a wig because I have no time to wear my own hair. Not because I think straight hair is more beautiful. All women's hair is political. Not just Black people.

All women's beauty is judged with their hair & black women get the bonus of political placement as well.

I think the most ridiculous thing in Half a yellow sun, was casting a mixed race person and a black person ad twins. I know Thandie Newton had a tan/dark make-up, at the start if the film - but it was purely foolish.

Hair is absolutely political. Conservative styles, avant garde styles, natural color vs bleached blonde or pink/purple/blue, urban styles, rural styles, high maintenance or low maintenance, natural Afro or straightened. With chemicals, women can do almost anything with their hair. Cultures and sub-cultures have norms. Remember the Beetles hair cuts, the journey between 1950s conservative to 1960s flower power and free love long hair.

I think if she thought he was being rude she would have checked him respectfully like she has done other interviewers ...particularly French reporters ...frankly though it did bother me that he kept interrupting, but none the less I love her and yes our hair is political 😬😬💁‍♀️

She was very patient. He was a bit patronizing. The bit about his mum was besides the point concerning hair and what it represents for black people politically. If you want to know what she thinks about it properly do read Americannah, it is so much more than a "tangled love story" - the romance is actually quite secondary to the novel, it is about culture shock and relationships and, like, the peopleness of people.
