yes we all must constantly return to the root virtues of our faith that is true. a world without religio and a collective connection to God is not an option for African people. we are chiefly a people of faith and no bad leader will change that. Africa is currently the most powerful part of the Catholic church as it has always been since the founding of Christianity. We Catholics must hold our leaders accountable by using our faith not by losing it. I hope Ms. Chimamanda hasn't completely lost her faith from the bad actions of a few when so many more are doing good in the African church.

She’s 100% right; our churches used to be a refugee for the poor, for the weak and the troubled. They played a major role in the communities, protecting our moral values and rights. However, money is the order of the day, morality has eloped our societal norms. They used to do this effortlessly with several styles of penalties; the consequences became a deterrent for the masses. Nowadays, there are little or no cultural or religious consequences; everyone in the society is running amok like a headless chicken. No true leadership with sense of true responsibility to drive the society to greater moral standards

By acknowledging the truth in your post I am shamefully admitting to being guilty. As a member of the Christian community, the words in your post hit hard. The church is made up of people and it seems we have lost our way. Help us Lord to remember your commission, to love one another and go ye therefore and preach to all nations the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The money was a very small part of the reason for me leaving religion. But last year my friends came to this realization about the Catholic Church. After both her parents die two months apart. After years of giving it all to the church. The only message they got from the church was a letter thanking them for choosing a Catholic cemetery and what the fees they had to pay. These were people who did alter work .

The church organization should have cared for the deceased that was the point. They should done a good will gesture to the family like waving the fees, maybe donating money or resources to the family in a time where they are grieving. There several communities here that pay the deceased a certain amount for burial expenses but All the cared about was the patronage.

Dear Adichie If the catholic church is about money in your country, remember, it has to do with your people who become priests....not about catholic church. The values they possess come from the culture you belong. The catholic church as such neither allows nor endorses such behaviors of priests if it has happened. A person of your intellect should be able to distinguish the two. A priest has often in him a compound of his cultural/familial values, personal values and the valuesnof the Church/faith.

Indisputable! It's not only the Catholic Church, though. The Christian Church is a commercial venture, period! All structures are geared towards getting deeper into the faithfuls pockets. There's something called annual renewal of vows to the church in the Catholic Church where women pay more than men. Then, all monies raised in church even for a project must first be taken to the Priests for consecration and deduction of ten percent. This page isn't enough for listing the money making ploys of the Catholic Church.

It is not happening in Catholic church alone. Many people do not preaching the correct gospel any longer. It is now all about money and materialism. I do not know whether they know that the Bible calls all these VANITY. Yet they spend great preaching all the NONSENSE as against where people's souls will spend eternity once one dies. Or do they not know that souls live forever either in Heaven or hell ? But You, it is high time you ran to Jesus for Salvation so that you will be set free from all these deceptions. JESUS SAVES FROM SINS !

A poor man would become a pastor, and all of a sudden he’s driving the most expensive cars and living in expensive houses. He would then tell you that if you continue praying and giving your tithes and offerings, you’d be like him. And many people would contribute money for these pastors to buy jets and cars.

Saw this happening a long time ago. It's about time Blacks start waking up about the religions and deities they serve. We are a magnetic people, by default. Worship is NOT our invention. Those who are unintelligent about energy and forces are most incomptent about themselves and the Universe/Nature.

@@GodwinKonkwo - I give thanks. Intelligent, civilized minds know there is no physical existence without energies, forces, or wave frequencies. This is the spirituality that animates, drives and influences all living things. The connection between us and spirituality, as evidenced by every movement, motion, action and operation, is blackness. Everything is powered by blackness. Black people are endowed with magnetic powers, but are mentally detached from using it due to white religious indoctrination. All it takes is a few to converge their magnetic potentialities to make a global impact. Truth will prevail.

am your sister from Yemen, and by Allah I only spoke out of hunger and distress. My mother, my brothers, and I lessons and tears. We are in a situation that only God knows about. God is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs for those who brought us to this situation. By Allah Almighty, I did not write this appeal out of distress and distress. Poverty, O world, they have felt it So, I hope for you. By Allah Almighty, Lord of the Great Throne, he ate what I had in the house. By Allah, my brothers, he is my brothers by sitting in the house. Who has no food? By God, we are in a very difficult situation. We have 4 people entering the house, and my father hasdied, and there is no one who can depend on us and who lives in it.We live in a rented house because we cannot pay the rent we owe. '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''' My brother, my first words are: I swear to God that I will not lie to you or deceive you. I am a Yemeni girl displaced from the war. My family and I live in a rented house in Al-Shahrab 20,000 Yemenis among us, and now we owe 60,000 for 3 months. The owner of the house is one of the people who does not have mercy, by God, my brother. He comes every day, insulting us, talking about us, and moving from the house to the street because we were unable to pay him the rent. The neighborssaw us crying and came back. They came back to talk to the neighbors and we were given the weekend. So we made him swear by God. He will take us out into the street. Have mercy on him and us. Our country is due to this war and we do not find food for our day, and my brothers and I live in a difficult life. Our father died, may God have mercy on him, and we have no one in this world who was with us in these harsh circumstances. My younger brothers went out into the street and saw...The neighbors eat and stand at their door in order to give them bread even if they break it. By God, to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, they closed the door and expelled them and came back crying. They are dying of hunger. No one has mercy on them and a holiday is returned. I have made a living, and now if one of us helps us with a kilo of flour, I swear to God, I am dying of hunger. My brother, I am an alien to God. Then, I ask you to help me for the sake of God. I ask you, by God, to love goodness and to help me, even if you can, by messaging me on WhatsApp.On this number 00967772168484 and ask for the name of my card and send it and do not be late and may God reward you with all the best, my brothers Sagar, see how they are and help us and save us before they throw us out in the street, you will be lost or wewill die of hunger.
