I think that was probably the best reaction I've seen to this tribute! And what made it even more impactful was the fact that you were already familiar with the magic and power of the original studio recording, Too often, I see reactors listening to misguided voices in the comment section that tell them to watch the live MSG performance of Stairway, then the live Heart cover version, and never, ever hear the original studio masterpiece. There are too many reactors on KZread that meet that exact description to even mention. I am so glad that you did it right! Keep up the great work! Peace

Apparently Jason had told the Zeppelin guys that he couldn't attend this event, as he had a prior commitment. That's why Robert Plant jumps up and points at him so enthusiastically. They had no idea he would be a part of the tribute band. Robert and John Bonham had been friends and bandmates since before Zeppelin. 🤙😎

Jason is a most excellent drummer. He played his fathers kit with his fathers sticks with Jimmy, Robert and JPJ at the 2007 Celebration Day concert in London. You NEED to watch a clip from that show…it’s outstanding. Kashmir is the highlight but they did a two hour set. Jason has his own Zeppelin tribute band which is excellent. Saw them live last October, and they really COOKED. Jason is now Sammy Hagar’s drummer and tours with him. He has made his living as a professional drummer for decades and obviously is considered a top drummer. He is not his dad though. Nobody could be. Bonzo was something else. A monster drummer and a legend.

Robert Plant is Jason’s godfather. Robert and John Bonham were best friends. When Robert’s son died, the Bonham’s were right there for Robert and his wife Maureen. They lived close by. John convinced Robert to stay in music and to stay in Zeppelin ( Robert was ready to leave music and become a teacher after his sons death). When John died, it ripped Robert apart. He still misses his friend.

Jason also played with Plant Page & JPJ, for the Celebration Concert, Jason said that was his dream come true. Jason studied & studied every song his dad played with the band, he said he didn’t know what songs they’d play for that concert. He wanted to play just like his dad, & not screw any songs up, & he did amazing. Yes Jason has a band, I sadly don’t know it’s name, but I’m sure you can look it up, he’s played drums since he was a toddler. His father was proud of him back then, he’d make him play for musician friends that came over, famous musicians.

I love to see the reactions from young people to these older artists. I love to see them realize that these artists weren't sampling or creating music using other peoples' music, though they actually were driven by it. You are particularly articulate and insightful. Robert and Jimmy, back in the sixties, were gobbling up as much Black American blues as they could get their ears on. And getting your ears on Black blues was no easy task for a teenager in England. First they had to be somehow exposed to the music, then, to hear more, they had to find it, buy it and get it to a record player to listen. There was no such thing as the internet. They had to go to record shops and search for the scarce recordings of these black artists, and they became truly hooked. There are so many references taken from black delta blues artists, Chicago blues artists, etc. And these artists referenced back to black gospel music, to black field slaves' call and response singing used to inspire and help hours, days and years pass as they worked in fields, either under forced slavery or as indentured servants of some kind, etc. The history here is deep, derivative and it's impossible to really consider how the influences met, crossed and melded with each other. Most of the original blues artists had a small, local sphere of influence, during a time when recording black music was not important to those with the money to record music. So much lost history. So, the future Zeppelin members had to do deep digs to find the music., then come to love it. These blues influences are buried deep in Zeppelin's music, but they are well and truly there, with some accusing them of stealing. Music is inherently derivative and inherently progressive, so I'm not weighing on here. There simply isn't time or space here for that conversation, though it does need to be referenced. As to this performance, just a couple of points - The bowler hats worn by the chorus and Jason Bonham are referential back to Jason's dad, John, who loved and frequently wore a bowler hat for performances. - I also believe (and hope) that the black faces in the back up singers and that brilliant chorus were a tribute to Zeppelin's love of Black American blues. In this regard, at least to me, this tribute appears to have come full circle , from the Black American Blues music Page and Plant came to love and revere as teens, through its influence to all of the music of Led Zeppelin, up to the recent past of this Kennedy Center tribute. MDreeezy, your insight, from someone so young and new to Zeppelin and Rock in general, is a welcome look at where the influence of older artists may lead young artists to continue to innovate, with reverence for all of our musical pasts. Thanks for continuing to guide us to innovations and influences, just as Led Zeppelin did in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Cheers, 60 Year Old White Dude

Yea, pretty special isn't it? I never tire watching this tribute. And emotional too. Plant and Bonzo were pretty tight b4 being in Zep, Plant is Jason's Godfather. He was asked to attend and declined to surprise them, hence why the pointing of drum sticks, Plant stands and points back. Jason toured with Heart and knows they cover a lot of LZ and are good too, he recommended them for Stairway. Ann was 62y when she belted that out, she's a Goddess all her own, Nancy too, always on her guitar. They are touring this year, all over the US, crazy. Glad you enjoyed, great reaction. ❤❤

Led Zeppelin is friends with Ann & Nancy, & other then Led Zeppelin, this is the best I’ve heard this song done. Jason was about 10 when his father died, Plant is Jason’s godfather, plant & Bonham were friends from about 13 or 14. Yes Robert had invited Jason to be there, & Jason said he couldn’t make it. Plant Page & JPJ love Jason, but I think Plant has that exert bond. Plant may be more happy that Jason is there, & also being proud of him. I believe Jack Black introduces Led Zeppelin here, & he is so funny, he had begged to use Immigrant Song for his movie School Of Rock. Thank you & I’m glad you enjoyed it, great reaction.

It turned out to be Jason Bonham. 😁. Super cool dude I had no idea his band was opening up for Heart He had a band called Bonham in the late 80s early 90s right now. I think he’s playing with Sammy Hagar , Joe Satriani & Michael, Anthony in Chicken Foot.

It is a great tribute but nothing beats the original, I do really like the fact that Jason Bonham is playing drums on his father's kit wearing his father's bowler hat. And there was not a better band to make this tribute seeing that heart pattern themselves after Led Zeppelin. I'm glad that the three remaining members of Led Zeppelin got to be honored like this and have this tribute for them. Two complete verses are missing. And I'm sure I've heard the complete song before. I'm going to watch the actual Kennedy Center performance and get back to my comment here.... Edit: It wasn't just this particular video that was shortened, but they shortened the whole performance by two verses. ... "And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune....." and "If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now....." Those two verses Are indeed missing. It's still a magnificent performance, but it sure took a long enough for me to catch it, Heaven knows how many times I've watched this, but there it is...

Ann is the vocalist and Nancy is the guitarist. You really need to check out their 70's song list. They have incredible music from that era and you will be blown away about how good they really were back before the 80's came along. Try to do those reactions because there a quite a few. They really were the female version of Led Zeppelin before the 80's came along and they were sort of forced into that style of music. The 70's songs were more pure and beautiful in my opinion .
