. Chilled water system or chiller plant is used to supply the chilled water to the cooling coils of building HVAC systems including Air handling units(AHUs) and Fan Coil Units(FCU). Chilled water system have different configurations including constant Primary flow(CPF) chilled water system, Primary-Secondary Chilled Water System, and Variable flow chilled systems.
In this video, we discussed only the components and sequence of operation of constant flow primary chilled water system. Initially, we discussed the difference between 3-way and 2-way valve systems. The 3-way valve system is a constant flow chilled water system while the 2-way valve system is a variable flow chilled water system.
We discussed different components and field devices used in the Chilled Water System for BMS control and monitoring like Water differential pressure switch(DPS), Motorized butterfly valve(BFV), water flow switch, and immersion temperature sensors used to measure the chilled water supply and return temperature.
We also discussed the sequence of operation of the constant flow primary chilled water system. In the last, we discussed the advantages and disadvantages of a constant primary flow chilled water system.

    Very informative video. Could you please make video about how chilled water pump speed controlled by differential pressure when there is high or low load, in secondary side pumping system.

    These videos are very helpful. Thank you for making them. One question, in the one-chiller-off scenario, wouldn't the overall supply temperature to the building be 10.9°C?

    Hi @TechSystems thank you for the video. You mention in the video that the motorised butterfly valve is their to isolate the nonoperational chiller but in the video when the second chiller is off at low load the chiller is not isolated in order to maintain a constant flow at all times. Question - In what scenario would you isolate a chiller and what effect would the drop in volume have on the 3-port control valves downstream (e.g. in-balance, decrease in authority)?

    @techSystems - love the video, thank you. Just a question: At around 9:15 in the video, only 1 chiller is running due to low load conditions, but why not switch the accompanying pump off as well to save pumping energy costs? It is not necessary to run both pumps in this configuration with only 1 chiller running?

  • @TechSystems

    @TechSystems

    6 ай бұрын

    Hi, This is a constant flow system with 3-way control valves at the AHUs and FCUs. So that's why both pumps needs to run to always maintain constant flow through system. Due to this drawback, this system is no longer used in the new buildings instead variable flow system is used with 2 way control valves.

    It is really difficult to understand without physically troubleshooting it. There could be any possible interlock in control program which is inhibiting the system to operate or might be any issue from some field device signal. Sorry cannot help you with that.
