Set during the early days of Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship, Chile ‘76 builds from quiet character study to gripping suspense thriller as it explores one woman’s precarious flirtation with political engagement. Carmen (Aline Kuppenheim) leads a sheltered upper middle class existence. She heads to her summer house in the off-season to supervise its renovation, while also performing local charitable works through her church. Her husband, children, and grandchildren come back and forth during the winter vacation, bringing reminders of the world beyond. When the family priest asks her to take care of an injured young man he has been sheltering in secret, Carmen is inadvertently drawn into the world of the Chilean political opposition and must face real-world threats she is unprepared to handle, with potentially disastrous consequences for her and her entire family.

The mayority of Chilean people are fed up and sickened by left wing ideologically biased interpretations of our history. We fought so that our country would not become a second Cuba. And wright now we are fighting to stop our country from becoming a new Venezuela. I wonder if this movie is one of those biased interpretations that attempts to push emotional buttons on audiences. If this is the case, I assure you it will not be a blockbuster in Chile.

Fight? Persecute and kill people is not fight, is a coward action and a destruction of democracy. Pinochet is a killer and a dictator, not a hero. That's the historically truth.

It was the US CIA that overthrew the DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED Allende gov't of Chile, for which Henry Kissinger has been an international criminal and wanted man ever since. His success was the installation of a right-wing fascist dictatorship which murdered civilians without charges, trials, or convictions. There was also the murder of Allende gov't diplomat within the United States, in Washington, DC, by bombing. Your opposition is not to "leftism"; your opposition is to DEMOCRACY, and the rule of law on which it is based. Those are objective facts, not "left wing interpretations".
