CHILDREN OF TEAHUPO'O (FULL MOVIE) Gilbert, Tahurai & Tim Mckenna Guardians and Olympic Witnesses

Спорт

AN EXCLUSIVE DOCUMENTARY.
Lost in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, on the island of Tahiti, lies a village that's home to one of the world's most beautiful waves - Teahupo'o. Facing mystical mountains covered in a wild and luxuriant jungle, the perfect wave of Teahupo'o wraps around the reef to create a powerful tube that attracts the best surfers on the planet.
Photographer Tim Mckenna has been documenting this paradise for over 25 years. From Laird Hamilton's Millennium Wave to WSL competitions, the locals pushing the limits, and the upcoming Olympic Games, he has been a privileged witness to Teahupo'o.
Alongside all the big names in surfing, he has seen the emergence of a generation of local kids who have come to tame this mythical wave. Among them are Tahurai Henry and Gilbert Teave.
Aware of how lucky they are to have grown up in this paradise, they dedicate all their energy and heart to preserving the place and passing on their culture to future generations. They are the guardians of the temple, the heirs of the village. They are the children of Teahupo'o.
OXBOW is proud to present CHILDREN OF TEAHUPOO, a 36-minute film produced by Showcast, directed by Hand Studio.

So so so sad. Happened in so many places and always new places get destroyed. They convince the local people that this business will bring money, wellfare, jobs for their children. Then foreign investors and speculators will buy their lands and properties for what seems good money for the poorer locals. Then prices of land and properties will rocket high up, living right their will become too expensive for the locals, jobs will go to people that for too low salaries spend a season or some and the place just becomes a business of outsiders, the money goes to other countries where the investors reside and locals will have lost their paradise, money and jobs, and most of all, the land they could live on without all this business.

This is yet another reason i keep telling people we should aim for a world without money. If we can make it through climate change, we might be able to do it. Our biggest challenge, like with climate change as well, is our global mostly unwilling attitude.

Tragic :( I swear it is my dream to see this paradise with my own eyes but I just could'nt go. I have too much respect for the simplicity of these people's lives. I hope the governement of Polynesia will be worthy of respect by avoiding the tragedy threatening their poeple. I beg pro surfer's community to wake up and protect the gift nature gives them to do what they love. Have a beautiful day, from brussels.

The most magical place on earth such beauty and energy. I love this film as I've been huge fan of McKenna photography and to finally see the genius himself and his story is truly incredible.
