I thought it was just me that noticed. This and sweet thang it sounds like he redid the verse but muddied it up more which I hated. Vocal processing effects that ruined it. The original album was just fine.

Melon would’ve given it a 10/10 if it was called: “To At A Vista”.

Glad that everyone can appreciate Final Church. Even in the og mix, i bumped that shit constantly.

I loved pretty much every track on 3.15.20 and Atavista is basically improved in most all ways. Still wish the original was streaming as there is a track cut from Atavista and I think the new mix of Psyclocibae is for the worse

6 or 7 was what I was expecting based on the history of Fantano's opinion on Gambino's music. But I'm actually not mad at your take. Album is mixed better for a fuller, more vibrant sound but maybe doesn't feel as fleshed out lyrically or structurally. Think I just overall enjoyed it more.

'Time' & 'Sweet Thang' are fuckin bangers youre trippin.. While not as strong as 'Awaken My Love' as a whole.. those 2 songs are the best CG songs released to date.

Changing the title of every track from mere numbers to actual titles alone is a big improvement on the album. I literally had to either sit through the album all the way to the end just to listen to my fav cuts or literally jot them down on my notepad or something because I just couldn't recall what every track sounded like just off their titles which were nothing but an menagerie of numbers.

Rhis re release and review have been so great for me as a Gambino fan. 3.15.20 quickly got the "Cherry Bomb" treatment from me upon initial release. I had to accept that i was listening to something very sloppy and all over the place, wishing it sounded better but still loving what i was hearing. I still ended up loving a lot of these tracks, and to hear them all sounding so sharp and well made was awesome. Id probably give this thing an 8, loved it, i know its gonna be spinning all summer

The instrumentals on "To Be Hunted" (previously "19.10") sound so drowned out. I am happy that some of the harsh noise extended outros were trimmed, but I'm sad the 12.38 into 19.10 transition is gone. Human Sacrifice is a great addition, however.

Really like a lot of the changes on Atavista record compared to the original. However, I kind of like some the original stuff from 3.15.20 (Though the mix on Atavista is definitely a lot better). I am super excited for the actual new and final record we will be getting from Donald later this summer.

I got so into 3.15.20 it helped me a lot thru early pandemic, and my first listen of this one I liked the old rougher mix and tran-sitions better, but I think it'll grow on me. Great songs on here either way

I spent a week listening to this project and I can certainly understand the intentions for this album. It's for sure an experience and probably my favourite Gambino project. That being said, if I had to be Fantano in this scenario, I would still put Awaken my Love as Gambino's best work

YES. To be fair it could've just been listening to it endlessly through the pandemic but really liked the original better.

He's got another album coming out in the summer, and if it follows the same theme as the song he has with Kayne that he played on that radio station, it's a wrap for the rap game.

nice review, felt very similarly about the project

wow ill be honest i had no idea that atavista was a rerelease as ive only just started listening to childish gambino; coming into it with fresh ears gave me a totally different perspective to the album and its concepts and how it felt when i thought it was actually his final album was so different. algorythm, time, and psilocybae had this odd melting achronistic sound that made me think of the past (which now i know it was actually a 2020 release makes more sense) that was so floaty and fun and i really like all three of those songs; i saw in another comment that 21s verse was ripped from a different song but i felt him feeling slightly out, like how i felt arianna sounded, added to this "flipping through radio stations in the late 2010s" vibe that i was feeling. idk just interesting !! glad this isnt his last project though i was a little disappointed even though i really liked this project a lot (even got the vinyl)

I don't know what happened in 2024, but Fantano has really stepped his game up creatively. I like to think Cal is a good influence on Fantano. You could say he's his muse 😂

i personally fucking loved this album. it's concise, energetic, the songs have meaning, and the sound is really unique. I had a fun time listening to each song and I never got bored or tired of the vibe.

personally, i think the old version sounded better. maybe its because i fell in love with it and listened to it several hundred times lol. 12.38 sounds like shit now, all the tracks bleeding into another being gone is fucked, and the heartfelt song to his father not being on the album is a tragedy. honestly, listen to both versions on shrooms and tell me the new one is still better lmao. If 3.15.20 had actual promo it would have succeeded. It was set up to fail tbh.

Time is pretty good as well, that beat feels atmospheric and spacey at times, I'm not a fan of Ariana but she killed it too, if not for Gambino this should've blown up for her but Gambino's weird release ruined all chance of that. Honestly the 3 track run from Time to Psilocybae to To Be Hunted is the best part of the album.

Love the weaponization of the concept of raw muddy instrumentals vs unfinished in his critiques - the original album is good if you like your pizza on a napkin instead of a porcelain plate. Hell it was almost like it was trying to make a statement. Tony probably loves that FCPremix instead of that g.e.p.g.e.p. tbh and that is ok - you spend enough time reviewing music to the point that overproduction tends to roll better off the palette when cramming music because it is less jarring from album to album.

Hey would love to see what you think of Apashe's work... especially the album "Requiem".

Fun fact: Most of the songs on this album were done in one take, the most takes taken for one song was only 4. I lied.

What’s fun about that

Atavista is cool, Atavista and Human Sacrifice I very much appreciate as songs, but there’s not a single new mix that I enjoy more than the 3.15.20 version.

Honestly the run from Atavista to Sweet Thang is pretty flawless to me. Time has grown on me a lot and Ariana’s updated vocals are fantastic, Psilocybae is still vibey as hell, and To Be Hunted is one of my favorite Gambino tracks ever. Such a banger. Idk how all of those aren’t in the best tracks.

The MBDTF of 2024 is here lol. I'm far more inclined to give this record a try just based on the review alone, he gave an identical score to the recent St. Vincent album despite the unironic rave reception from both professional and community-based reviews alike. He also gave another similar score to the last KG&TLW album, which I also like it a lot.

Being blinded while watching was always a Fantano video trait, this video blinded me in particular.

i liked 21 Savage on Psilocybae, it sounded quite good, and the singing in the end is great, the last half of the song is better than the first.

I'm honestly shocked that you like Little Foot Big Foot, but to each their own ofc. Also although I like both verses quite a bit, I think the 21 Savage feature works way better than the Nudy feature based on how it's presented in the song.

Also, 21’s verse on Psilocybae wasn’t intended for the song. It came from a completely different song by Glover that leaked called “Do Whatever You Want.” That explains why it felt out of place
