Childhood Poverty: Dr. Bert Lubin at TEDxGoldenGatePark

CEO of the Oakland Children's Hospital, Dr. Bert Lubin, discusses childhood poverty and the shocking correlations between childhood poverty and disease.
Bertram Lubin, MD, is the first pediatrician to serve as president and chief executive officer in the 100-year history of Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland. Dr. Lubin accepted his position after serving the medical center for 36 years, first as chief of Hematology/Oncology, and, since 1981, the director of medical research. Children's Hospital is recognized nationally and internationally for its research in blood diseases and its outstanding care of children with malignancies, sickle cell disease, thalassemia, and hemophilia.
Dr. Lubin also developed Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI), a $50 million-a-year enterprise. In 2008, CHORI ranked sixth in the nation for National Institutes of Health research grant awards to children's hospitals.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
