    @@IamError87 Lol that's exactly how it was: be home by the time it gets dark and do your homework. That was pretty much it. My nieces and nephews refuse to believe the stories I tell them about the stuff their parents and me did when we weren't even teenagers yet. It's just alien to the world they know. They can't wrap their heads around the idea of a ten year old wandering off for hours with no way for the parents to contact him and that everybody was cool with it. Hell, when my older brother went away to England for his master's degree in the late 70's he literally for all intents and purposes disappeared from the face of the Earth for almost 2 years because whenever my parents called him he was never home and whenever he called back nobody was home, until both sides said "fuck it" and stopped calling. 😂

    I love how Ashleigh still doesn't get how parenting was before the late 90s. Especially in the 80s. Yes, kids were alone.. a lot. parents were not concerned as much with supervising everything we did. We would wander off and come back when it got dark, and the parents usually had no idea where we were. Also parents worked and kids stayed home by themselves.

    Did any of you wander around alone in a city the size of Chicago? Latchkey, yeah. Out playing for hours, yes, in the suburbs, though even as a single mother it's not what I did. But even as a child myself in the 1970s in Chicago, when I once got lost and wandered about 20 city blocks from home, a kind woman stopped me to make sure I was safe. I was 9 years old, not 6. Small children did not routinely wander around alone and take the el train by themselves.

    I remember having a "My Buddy" doll for boys right before this movie came out that looked a lot like the Good Guy dolls. Sales dropped a lot for the doll because of this movie. Also remember still how big Cabbage Patch Kids dolls were in the mid 80's cause my mother used to work HR at the Kmart in Clinton, TN. Christmas time when those dang dolls came out was CRAZY!!! So many women were willing to fight each other to the death for a dang doll for their kids. Kmart was THE place to shop before crappy Walmart arrived.

    @@gingermama7823 Well that's good neither of your family were hurt. Yea the CPK dolls were the first that my mother remembered people just going absolutely CRAZY!! I even had one myself as a little kid as well lol. But she worked Kmart HR 6 years and what hurt her the most and the GM put a boot in the ass to were when the "poor" kids were given toys, clothes, coats and other essential items from multiple charities for Christmas just to have some of the deadbeat parents later come back and try and get all the items returned for cash money. You knew what they were doing because they'd try and claim that NONE of the clothes fit without wanting to exchange anything and all the toy items were still in the box. Oh she said the GM blessed them up and down and told them to their faces they were never welcome back in the store, he was reporting them to the police, child protective services and every local charity and he DID because they had all the names of every family that took items.

I loved that thing and wish I'd remembered what happened to it. Sadly my father one day just up and decided I was "too big" for stuffed animals and took almost all of them straight to the dump while I was at school. I know I was a boy instead of a girl but they could have at LEAST been given without my knowing to younger children and provided some joy instead of just as a way to put me down and accuse me of being a sissy, which I even wasn't cause I was still in dang elementary school! Hell even an old security bear I'd had since well before preschool and got me through a few major sicknesses, he made me throw away the end of my 8th grade year even though I hadn't taken it out of the closet in years and was mainly keeping it to give to any potential children I'd have. And he wonders why I never had any kids lol.

    As a former smoker, the "tap the cigarette" thing is supposedly to pack the tobacco in so that it burns better. Usually you would do it with a fresh pack of smokes, and you'd tap it about 20 or 30 times against your palm or a hard surface like a table, and when you took out the first cigarette, the tobacco was packed back by about 4-5 mm. I cannot comment, however, on whether or not it makes them smoke better. I never really found a difference.

    I loved Child's Play as a wean, sadly it disappeared in Scotland when it and the sequels were wrongly blamed for inspiring a real life murder(it wasn't officially banned but no where would sell or rent it until the DVD release in the early 2000's). I always found the idea of killer dolls to be funny because it's a doll, no matter how it's being possessed it still has the same weight and can easily be torn apart.

    In the original script, we never saw Chucky move or talk, leaving it up to the audience to figure out if it was a haunted doll or mentally ill Andy performing all the murders. But it still had Brad Douriff doing the ritual in the beginning, so it really wasn't clear which one was true. I love the film we got, but I also kinda wanna see the other one too.

  • @BigGator5
    @BigGator52 жыл бұрын

    The major problem I have with this movie, is that we see Charles Lee Ray transfer himself into the Good-Guy Buddy doll. I personally would have started with Andy getting Chucky and then the detective piecing things together. Fun Fact: Original writer Don Mancini stated in an interview that his original script toyed with the audience a bit longer, making them wonder if young Andy was the killer rather than Chucky. The original plot idea was to have life-like Good Guy dolls that had blood and latex skin. If the kids tore the latex skin, they could go out and buy Official Good Guy bandages. In a blood-brother pact, Andy cut his own hand and mixed his blood with Chucky's, thus causing him to come alive and become human.

    I think the reveal should have been a prequel. This first movie should have stuck with the "did Andy do it" narrative until the towards the end it was the doll. Then a prequel surrounding Chucky's life of crime. In the prequel, you get snippets of a Good Guy doll, ending with the ritual (never really showing the doll), and last scene zooms in on the packaged Good Guy/Chucky on the store shelf.

  • @2buxaslice

    @2buxaslice

Him being trapped in the doll and all of the adult behavior coming from a child's toy is what makes this series fun.

    Idk if anyone ever answered your question about why people tap cigarettes so here you go. Usually it’s done before you even open a new pack, but it’s to tamp down the tobacco so it’s packed tighter in the cigarette paper. It keeps you from having a bunch loose tobacco in your purse or pocket. I usually give my pack 5 hard wacks, on a hard stable surface, pon each side, upside down, before I open the pack.

    The movie might be a bit of an extreme case. But I was born in 86, so I'm a 90's kid. My days were filled with playing outside and literally doing whatever I want as long as I was home when the street lights came on. I honestly consider it better parenting than how scared people have become nowadays.

    I was laughing about your cigarette comment but thinking about it makes me happy. Ashleigh has evidently not spent years around smokers, hasn't grown up seeing ashtrays in every home and on the tables of every restaurant and bar. That's a really good thing. So yeah, people tap their cigarettes to knock the ashes off the ends.

    I believe you did not want to like this movie before it even started. You can't believe Chucky kept going after a couple of gun shots yet you totally applauded how Micheal Meyers kept right on going until the end when he dissappeared. Maybe you need more Chucky from Child's Play 2 🤣

    Tapping the cigarette "packs" it so it burns smoother and the fire doesn't fall out when you knock the ash off.

    I really wish they'd let Andy's epic "This IS the end, friend" lighting Chucky on fire moment actually be the end of the first movie, and then just let charred Chucky quietly slip away and come back for part 2. It's such a cool moment for like two whole minutes til they ruin it lol.

    As somebody who also just watched the first movie for the first time and loved it, something tells me you might prefer _Bride of Chucky._ It leans way more on Chucky's personality to the point where it's more of a comedy with kills than a horror movie. And, it's got Jennifer Tilly as the female version of Chucky.
