Child Marriage

Ойын-сауық

Our third animated short-film from 'Shattering the Silence', entitled “Child Marriage”, is told through the eyes of a young girl, and follows the story of Mina, a child who is pulled out of school and married off at a young age. As the film progresses, we see the physical and mental toll that an early marriage can have on a child bride, and consequently the limited opportunities that lend themselves to women with no proper educational qualifications when marriages don't work out.
Through resilience, determination and awareness, Mina is ultimately able to turn her life around when she approaches Panah - a shelter that not only takes both Mina and her daughter in but gives her vocational training.

My grandma "met" her first husband when she was 12, then as part of their marriage agreement she attended school 2 more years, then married a month after graduation. My mom had kids early on, so my grandma was raising me, my siblings, and her own kids. She refused to let my mother sell us into marriage, she demanded that all of us finish highschool, was extremely proud when everyone in my generation attended college (not all of us graduated), and before she died she was always telling all of her grandkids how proud and happy she was that we all were living lives that she had never even dreamed of hoping for and that all of us girls were dating/choosing who we marry. I never understood it growing up, but as an adult and realizing that a lot of our cultural traditions aren't the average experience for people; especially in America, I've really grown to understand and appreciate everything

People say that child at 11 years old get married off because they get their period so it’s a sign that they are ready for pregnancy. No their not. Yes in the mental sens they’re not ready at all but also in the physical sense. There are girls who lost their womb due to a young pregnancy, people younger than 20 who became very sick, who even died because while the logic was there, it wouldn’t work in reality. My mother for example got a severe chronic injury in her back that’ll never heal by giving birth to me, and she was 22 or 23 so imagine a girl of 14. This is straight up abuse. Not only are they making a child work, they’re also exploiting her organs, they’re destroying her health for selfish purposes. Not to say its clearly pedophelia, especially if the girl marries a man who can be her father. Why do they treat woman and man differently? I want to ask the parents, so your son is your child but your daughter is not? They all came in this world the same way, why do you treat your daughter like a thing and your son like human? If you don’t consider every one of your child a treasure, you shouldn’t even be allowed to get children.

Recently in my country there has been a huge illegal immigration issue and my people has suffered both phisical and sexual attacks in less than two years since they came. Not only that, but Muslim women's are trying to enforce no image DNIs for women because they say that women must not be seen by men, they are trying to ENFORCE US the Islam beliefs in a supposed developed country.

this just makes me grateful to have the opportunities i've had as a woman... my grandmother came from an affluent vietnamese family, and her father insisted she get a good education, even though she was the youngest and a girl. they lost everything fleeing the communists but my grandmother came to the united states for college. she met my grandfather there, and they married and had my mom and my uncle. my grandparents prioritized education and my mom and uncle both went to college and higher education, where my mom met my dad. his parents weren't educated and were basically bums. he bettered himself all on his own, went to college, and law school where he met my mom. so i was born into a good situation, and am studying at a university right now and applying for law schools. my parents and my mom's parents are my heroes and worked their hardest to give their kids a better life. i hope someday all girls will have these opportunities. some people aren't as lucky. this video brought me to tears. this kind of thing can't be taken for granted. and breaking the cycle is the greatest thing you can do. sorry this was rambly and kind of had no purpose but everyone in the comments is sharing their story so i wanted to share mine

My grandma, who's passed away 7 years ago, got married at the age of 14. She couldn't go to school and she could barely read, but I could see the will in her eyes which made her to want to read. She didn't limit my mother, she did anything to provide her to go to school. My mother married a 24-year-old man at the age of 23 (she is 54 now). Well I cannot say that their relationship is so good but my mom's happy with her children.

My closest cousin there, who's around 15 years old- recently got married to this 40 year old man, whos wife had passed away. His excuse was that he needed someone to take care of his son, who's a toddler. He couldn't himself, since It's a cultural belief that men shouldn't nurture their children until puberty. And so he married his close friends teenage daughter, my cousin. She's already a wife, and a mother for her step son.. she was stripped of her fucking childhood, and It's just so disappointing that we live in such a world. Put an end to child marriages!

It breaks my heart to see girls from the ages of like 9-13 getting married at such a young age. Little girls that range around that age should be going to school, doing their homework, and just getting their education in general. That should only be their priority/job, not getting married off to creepy old men who are in their mid 30's and forced to work for them like a housewife. It saddens me that these young girls don't even get a say in where their life goes, it's just done for them weather they like it or not. Pedophilia is NOT a cultural thing. I pray for the girls going through this..

Yes you are right. As a boy, I can understand that how curel are these boys which think them as the most powerful and they forget to respect women. Women is Shakti (Power) and without Shakti this world is useless. If our mothers are not there in our life no one will be there and no one can survive. Feel proud to be a girl. Goddess Durga is also Shakti and killed the demon Mahishasura, Goddess Kali killed Chanda and Munda., Raktabeeja, Shumbha and Nishumbha. Life is useless without a mother. Brothers can't take care of their siblings as compared to sisters. Even after criticising Lordess Annapurna (Goddess who fulfilles the food) Lord Shiva had to beg in front of Lorddess Annapurna to get food. If you will read Devi Mahatmyam or Devi Saptashati you will know that women is the real Shakti not the men. Shaktas (Follower of Shakti, Denomination of Hinduism), are the devotees of Shaktim

Mahishasura got boon from Brahma (Supreme God of Hinduism) as Brahma got pleased by Mahishasura's deep meditation. He wanted to be immortal. Lord Brahma booned him and said, 'Neither a Lord or Man can kill you). When the devtaas in heaven asked Lord Brahma that why did he give that boon then he said, 'He will die in the hands of women'. The devtas pleased Adi Shakti Devi Durga and she killed Mahishasura. From that time onwards, she is known as Mahishasuramardini (The Lady who killed Mahishasura). Maa Kali also an avatar of Shakti killed the Raktabeeja, a demon who got the boon that when even a single drop of blood falls on the land, thousands of Raktabeeja will born. Maa Kali killed raktabeeja and drank his whole blood without falling a single drop of blood. Maa kali is Shmashan Charini. She notifies a person that she'll also take care of his son even after his child's death and waits for them in cremation ground. Mata Sarswati, Goddess of Knowledge, Mata Laxmi who is the Goddess of Wealth are the avatars of Shakti.

I just remembered one story, Ann Boleyn was queen of England in 16th century and changed the history (don’t ask me how she just was bored), she was beheaded because of cheating to her husband with her cousin (!) and 3 more man, funny thing, before becoming king’s wife her parents wanted her to marry her another cousin, but she needed to be burned because of incest, (she was beheaded because Henry show mercy) and whats….weird.

Yes also in rural areas some parents would've wedded their children before they even turn 18? Which is illegal because our consent and legal age of marriage is when they're 19. Mostly because family's struggling economically and have so many children so it's the easiest way to get rid of them especially the daughters. Not only that some people that's not from rural areas or because their economic reason are also glorifying underage marriage, think that it's completely normal.
