Calling it history doesn't justify abuse. You should know that Kumari is basically a child abuse. If u think history and culture should justify it then the sati pratha should also have been justified as it was also considered a part of the culture.

I really don't see anything wrong with this. The little one is supported and will eventually move on to bigger and better things hopefully in her life. She'll always have the prestige of the role she played in her culture. She's bringing people hope and comfort. As an American Christian I don't really mind it and I thought it was actually beautiful that this sect had preserved this tradition so thoroughly. Ah I'm just babbling now...

Everyone has their view, but I think it's really wrong. She can't go to school, speak to others, smile, play or walk. She basically don't have childhood. Her immmersion in society will be tought. It dosen't mean we don't have to respect the culture. But we're free to express our point of view. And I think it's child (mental) abuse.

Hope Christian missionaries could go there and spread message of Jesus. "This is what Jesus taught you?" Is this what your religion teaches you? Did Jesus force you to be a Christian? *I am sorry if I have hurt your feelings for religion( sorry, I am a atheist and I hate religious beliefs) . But every time I meet a Christian, he/she asks me to join Christianity and perform baptism. Is this what your religion teaches you? (Edit: Jesus was a Jew right? And you say Christians follow the path of jesus. I don't know a lot but as far as I am concerned his path was not to force anyone or being bit*h ass about religions)

Ever since that i was good at studies and life was better. After couple of years , jus by crossing the street, I noted the street where there was a temple in my dream was actually Kumari Temple which was never known to me untill that day.... Kriti Ulak yeah, but think about the other stuff, she sees all kinds of different people everyday, she's a minor celebrity after her retirement (No/little work!) she experiences unique things. She looks nervous, but I think she enjoys it just not in the moment. she might think when she's being praised 'I hate this' and then when going to bed think, 'it might be uncomfortable, but it's amazing to have such an honor' She might be happy, she might be unhappy but there are children in worse position. When she's older I think she'll enjoy the popularity and pay, no money isn't everything but not working leaves more time to enjoy life. Just a thought. She's fine don't worry.

Newaris have been following indian culture since the aryan licchavis came to power. the original newari people were kirat. but after the defeat of kirat at the hands of aryan licchavis, the people of kathmandu valley (now known as newar) have been highly influenced by the aryan licchvais. the licchavis brought caste system and many hindu culture into nepal. there was no such thing as Kumari during kirat time. it was invented later time.

Lord buddha was born in Nepal. Nepal have voiced out angrily about the birthplace of Lord Buddha after Indian Bollywood movie, Chandni Chowk to China suggested that Lord Gautam Buddha was born in India. The movie Chandni Chowk to China was banned in Nepal. Moreover, over 2,550 years after his birth, at least we have now some picture that Lord Buddha who was born in the plains of Nepal was Tharus. The Tharus, an ethnic group are found living in the south mid-western districts of Nepal. Author of the book, The Great Sons of the Tharus: Sakyamuni Buddha and Emperor Ashoka, Subodh Kumar Singh claimed that the Tharus, since sixth century BC, were subjects of Sakya Dynasty of Kapilavastu (Lord Buddha’s Kingdom). I am a Nepali and I think this is a taboo. How can you take away a child's rights? I won't support any culture which takes away a child's right to live socially and no one should. Moreover, it's depressing to see a lot of youths beliving this thing in the urban part of the nation.

Come on people stop judging a tradition followed by million of people over a short video. These videos do not show the whole story, this video is 6 mins people just 6 and the culture and tradition that you People are taking shit about is hundreds of years old and tradition like these makes us who we are. So, just stop these lame comments on something you don't even know about.

I'm not an expert but heres a few things I know (correct me if I'm wrong) A kumari cannot smile at those who come to worship or it's said they are cursed Her feet cannot touch the ground If she bleeds at any time she has to stop being kumari (even paper cuts) Her hair must be black At inspection she cannot have any blemishes as all After her time is done, its said her family cannot be with her or they are cursed I can't be completely correct, so please correct me if I am wrong.
