Jim Jordan gave a great performance. For those who don't know (which is probably just about anyone these days) Jim Jordan played Fibber McGee on the old radio show "Fibber McGee and Molly", a show which ran for many, many years and was always one of the top rated shows of its day. After "Molly" (Jim's wife Marion) died, he pretty much kept a low profile, but what a treat to see him and hear that familiar (to me anyway) voice. BTW, many Fibber McGee and Molly radio shows are online. If you are not familiar with them, go check some out. They are very funny and so well written and performed.

There were so many blue collar sitcoms that debuted in the 1970s: Chico & The Man, One Day at a Time, All in the Family, Sanford & Son, Three's Company, Taxi, Barney Miller, Good Times, Welcome Back Kotter, Alice, What's Happening!, and Maude, among others. Even Happy Days, MASH, and Laverne & Shirley were pretty blue collar, albeit set 20 years in the past.

I would hardly call some of those "blue collar." Jack was a chef on Three's Company. Maude's husband owned an appliance store, Howard Cunningham owned a hardware store and MASH was about doctors serving in a medical unit during the Korean War. I would hardly call any of those professions 'blue collar.'

@@jondstewart I did not mean 'blue collar' in the sense of the demands of the work. But rather in the sense of it being manual labor, most of it unskilled. Being a chef is a profession. Chefs, unlike plain cooks, are skilled professions in which most receive training. Many in some sort of culinary school. For instance, Jack on Threes Company DID go to and graduate from a culinary school.

It's the Man (Jack Albertson who stereotypes) but Chico is above that and he doesn't hold the shortcomings of the man against him. Instead he accepts him and he leads by example. Watch some of the episodes to see this theme and listen to the introduction theme song. Most of these controversial shows back than had the minor characters overcome the ignorance and stereotypes of the main character.
