The show was created by James Komack, whose brilliant writing made this show a tremendous comedic success. But the show’s success is also due to the stellar cast members.
Sadly, many of the Chico and the Man cast members are no longer with us - with some of them dying tragic deaths. Let’s look back at their incredible careers. Their life’s journey can serve as an inspiration for you to pursue your dreams.
One of the great comic performers of the 1970s was Freddie Prinze. He played Chico Rodriguez, which was the role that made him a household name. But even before the show, he had a formidable comedy career - which included guest-hosting for Johnny Carson. He sadly committed suicide in 1977, at the age of 22.
Jack Albertson was a prolific film and television actor. He played the role of Ed Brown in Chico and the Man. He sadly suffered from colon cancer in his 70s and died in 1981 at 74.
Della Reese was one of the great renaissance artists of our time. She could act, sing, and dance and had a prolific career. She was a part of the Chico and the Man cast, playing the role of Della Rogers. She sadly suffered from diabetes in her later years. She died in 2017 at the age of 86.
Two of the other great Chico and the Man cast members were Scatman Crothers and Ronny Graham. They were also versatile performers who are sadly no longer with us.
We can all learn about perseverance and resilience from learning about the careers of the Chico and the Man cast members.
Let’s learn more about the tragic deaths in Chico and the Man cast…

This show not only stands up to present day sitcoms, it shames them. This is what comedy was meant to be, without barriers or prejudice, to see the humor within ourselves.

I am a fan of Chico and the Man and enjoyed watching it very much. There just doesn't seem to be very many good sitcom comedies nowadays like there was back in the 60s 70s and 80s. SMH I just watch all the reruns of the oldies and goodies sitcoms and definitely more wholesome entertaining than this, what seems to be mostly junk, of today.

The first couple of years were good. The 3rd season began to drop, something was lost. Della Reese was a great actress, singer By the time she came to the show, the ratings were lower and the story was tired. Della's first couple of episodes were filled with racist comments between she and Brown.. It became a tired, old story .. Ed complains, yells at Chico, calls him names and tries to run his garage. There was an episode in season 3 where Ed and Chico had a big fight...Chico moved out He went back at the end of the episode... WHY would he do that? The show had become " mean old white man castigates young latino"
