Same, we are building a coop with a metal roof. Never installed a roof, let alone built a coop. Machinist by trade. I figured I'd take a shot at it. I'm glad I found this video to show me how to install this roof.

Thank you. Funny part is the video was all done and she told me I missed her part. I thought she was just going to be silly and then she banged that out. I was knocked to the floor with how awesome she did!

You need to put a sleeve on the drill for the bit until Robby gets more experience with the drill. Being the vertically challenged person I am...He also should also be one more step up using a bigger ladder so his arm is in line with the drill for leverage. You're a good dad teaching both kids how to use tools. They will definitely appreciate it when they get older.

Yeah, I ha e one with a sleeve but the sleeve slipped completely off and didn't work anymore. Need a new one. I would have let him go up one more on the ladder but the ground was eneven and didn't want him to fall off. You know how it goes... If it's not one thing it's another or all the things. Hahaha

So much to watch in this video (I actually watched it twice!). I'm impressed with how it was a family affair. Nice to see the kids learning self-sufficient skills from you. 👏 The goats were trying out the shop apron......and, was that a channel cat(fish)??? Might have to watch again.....😀

Kenny, first of all. You have great helpers. Emerson seems like a natural in front of the camera. I'm building a shed with a slanted roop (because I can't build rafters). Is there a reason why yours has such a high pitch? I'm still learning. Great job on your run.

We tend to get wet, heavy snow, so this will help keep it from piling up on the roof.

I am adding a metal roof to a 4 panel pen i have but im not sure how to do it. It is a 10x10 pen and i have 10 2x6 boards and some misc 2x4's. I have 4 12 1/2" by 3'3" metal sheets (the type for metal roofs on a house)

Ryan what size beam would you use on a 10x24 with a 4x4 every 8 ft , I was thinking 2 2x4s on top of 4x4 s with 2x6 rafters. I'm no carpenter , do you think that would work, for metal roofing sheets of course with purlins, thanks

Simpson Strong Tie H1Z Hurricane Tie if your talking about the the ones on the rafters. Pretty much all hardware is Simpson String Tie and very easy to find at HD or Lowes. You can also just cut a birds mouth notch and save the cash

Do you ever put the wooden gap filler strips made to fit the ends of the tin roof on? Or, do you use the gaps as part of your ventilation system?

Life On Beagle Road, after I saw those ends I had to ask. They even make then for the wavy sun roofing panels.

What do you use to attach the flashing to the wood? Thanks, doing my chicken coop roof now.

The roofing was attached using roofing screws with a neoprene washer. The drip edge was attached using galvanized screws.

I AM Robby. Hence, my husband the tools from me...

On your leading edge of the roof, do you get any water running under the roof since the flashing isn't wrapped over the roof panel? I was thinking of doing the same for a small wood shed but don't want water dripping in.

Corrugated metal roofing. We got ours from a building surplus supply store near our house. They have similar stuff at the big box store.

@@LifeOnBeagleRoad Thank you for the fast reply. I have one more question. How do I over lap my run is 20' wide and 20' long. I only want it covered from the coop to 10' out for some shade and in case it rains. I'll be adding tarps for the winter to the sides. I wish I had a husband right now. lol or I was younger, but at 65 I'm still determined. So any advice will be appreciated.

@@mima4392 so I layed the first two inches over one another and followed that pattern. Our run is 30' but only 10 9f it has a roof. So the first 10' have a pitch. The rest is the same height front and back. There's a tunnel from the run to the coop which I did in a different video I think. That allows them to go from the coop to the run and back. It also allows me to cut off the run from the coop if I need to do so.

@@LifeOnBeagleRoad Oh I see. My run is attached to my shed/converted to coop. I used 4x4x10 all the way around with 3 doors. So I can bring in mulch from the front and not go all around my house on a suburban lot. And 2 doors in the back. Good thing because only one fits my full sized wheel barrow for cleaning out the coop instead of the small cart. Mine will be a lower pitch because it's connected to the shed/coop. My shed it pretty tall with a floored storage area. I want this roof mainly to catch water.
