Chicago Public School Peanut Butter Cookies

These taste just like I remember years ago as a little girl when I attended public school. Thanks to Freda Gable, I can skip down memory lane whenever I eat one of these delights. I also show you how to zap it up a notch

One reason for cracking the eggs in a separate container is bc some eggs have a bit of blood in them. As well as getting shell in them too. You made beautiful cookies that I bet taste wonderful! My favorite dessert is a good cookie. I would imagine the cross cross design happened so that people would know that those are peanut butter flavor when someone made another flavor and needed to know which ones are which.
These look delicious. Have to try them. 5 sticks of butter (1 ¼ c ghee) 3 large eggs 2 tsp Vanilla 1 pound of peanut butter (chunky or creamy) 1 ¾ c brown sugar 1 tsp baking soda 1 ¾ c granulated sugar ¾ tsp salt 5 ½ c flour It will produce 9 dozens peanut butter cookies DIRECTIONS: Beat butter until fluffy Add sugar until well blended Add brown sugar Beat about 3 minutes Add 2 tsp vanilla Add eggs 1 at a time (crack egg in a container before adding to mixture) Stop blender scrap sides Add peanut butter Continue blending Scrap out the sides Add flour slowly mixing until you have added all the flour You might need a little bit more or less depending on the humidity Form 1" ball and put on a cooking sheet Take fork, dip in the flour, and push down on the cookies 375 F for 10-11 minutes You can add whatever you want (chips, nuts, etc.)
Thank you. These cookies were so good and looked great,,, so I jarred them up attached a bow and will be handing them out for the holidays. Thanks Tim. I always enjoy your advice.
If you or your family are out there, I just want to let you know that I really enjoy your videos. I've been ill and recuperating from pneumonia for three months and I'm dying to get back in the kitchen. Especially to make bread. Prepper videos have kept me sane. There was a time that I was able to make my own bread for an entire year. However, I should be able to bake soon. My husband has even expressed an interest in learning how to to make his own bread, and he doesn't cook much. You were the one who l taught me some really good secrets to pushing my potato salad over the top. I found that your tip of using a mixture of Miracle Whip and Mayonnaise was gold! Anyway, I'd really love it if you did some more videos. We really miss you!
Just made these cookies, they are delicious!!!❤ My family loved them. I won't make any other peanut butter cookies. This is it!
when I was a kid we used sugar to dip the fork into - can't wait to try out your recipe - keep up the good work. You brighten my day with the videos you do.
This was great, thank you for both recipe and instruction. You are very fluid with it. I miss baking with my mom who passed away long ago. Thanks for taking me back to such a happy place.

I have heard in a round about way that Deb is OK. From what I understand it's a case of burnout. Which is understandable. I have no idea if or when she will be back. Hopefully she reads our messages and knows we miss her.

3 years gone. Doesn't look like a return is imminent. I just discovered her videos. This is the 2nd I clicked on, and apparently the last she made. I already know she was a cool lady, but I am afraid something happened to her, and she won't be back. Sad.

Looks like I'm not the only one missing you Lady :-) I just checked yesterday to see if YT had unsubscribed me from you (they do that from time to time). I figure that you just decided to hibernate for the winter ;-) Hope all is well with you and yours. Loving these cookies and so are my neighbors! Came back to double check the recipe. We passed them out as a "Thank Lord Spring has Sprung" present. Hope that it wasn't premature :-/ Love to my North.
Hey Deb, that beater attachment you talked about is wonderful. I bought it a few weeks ago. Tip for you, there is an off brand available that has the rubber spatula on both sides of the blades and the actual Kitchen Aide only has the rubber on one side. I was told to buy the Kitchen Aide attachment as having the rubber on both sides is harder on your motor. Makes sense to me. It works well! I bought the grinder attachment as well, I love it!!
I suppose all public school peanut butter cookies are the best. My elementary school had the best as well. Other people have even said the same about their public school peanut butter cookies. Thanx for sharing!
Great gifts! Thanks.
They are excellent

Moon Dancer Moon Dancer help!!! Knowing she's hasn't come back. Since you made these, I was about to make the recipe but was a bit confused. Usually for baking I use unsalted butter, Deb just says butter. Another question in the video she wrote 1-3/4 cups of sugar but then later once she's mixing she says 2-1/2 cups of sugar. How did you make them?
@TSunshineful
6 жыл бұрын
I adjusted the recipe to half, cause 9 doz is so much! I think the 2 and 1/2 is correct for that amount of cookies. I don't like things so sweet, so I would stay with 1 and 3/4. (or even less) I suggest you taste the dough before adding your flour, and see if it's sweet enough for you. The peanut butter will also add sweetness. Less sugar is always better. I always use salted butter, and I doubt if they used unsalted at schools. Probably just used shortening. Which would also work. I roll them up into logs, and freeze the logs. Take one out, thaw and cut about a dozen when we want them. You could use your unsalted butter then instead of 1 and 3/4 t of salt, use 2 teaspoons.

Moon Dancer OK I will try the 2 cups of sugar..for the amount of cookies it makes. Hopefully they're not too sweet. I don't like really sweet cookies either. Yeah I believe you're right about the butter, since it was for cps lol Thanks
@TSunshineful

Let me know how they turn out for you. :) Most peanut butter cookie recipes have equal amounts of white/brown sugar. I'm not sure I would go with two cups if you don't like sweet, sweet.
Tried em...love em. Thank u!
I never get bored of your videos. My parents live in IL too. I went to public school in Alton, IL. I wonder if its the same cookie recipe? They look delicious! I want to make the candy corn cookies for my friends at work! LOL
What a great sounding recipe! How big is the mixing bowl? I don't think my mixer would hold all the ingredients in one go.
Can't wait to make these
Hi Deb, been hoping and hoping you would come back. Missing you a lot! I just pray that neither you or Ted are hurt or ill. Will assume it this google plus thing if Katz doesn't tell us something. Love you.
