Chicago Mafia : Operation Family Secret | Michael Franzese & Kurt Calabrese

Today I will to talk about something that was huge in Chicago back in 2007. It was called Operation Family Secrets case, a highly publicized and big media affair. And in this episode, I’m going to Sit Down with someone who is very close to that event, the son of Frank Calabrese. Kurt Calabrese is one of two sons of Frank, and he shared a tremendous amount of interesting story about growing in a household with a notorious father, his relationship with his father, uncle and brother, and his involvement in the Operation Family Secret.

Dependable of level of your crime and depends of your position and depends what kinda crime you do,and people around you. If you are in Mafia, where you can't allow to be weak, where they pushing you to be brutal, killer, maniac and make you bloody paranoid maniac. If someone owe you money, and if he don't pay, it's not about money, it's about reputation then. You can't allow to people to talk about how ppl screw you and don't pay and you didn't do nothing.. but if you are some small time, without organization, but connections so your able to work, you can do and it don't have to be ego included and don't means long sentences and murders, and you can still make some good money

Throughout my life I love my family but sometimes you have to cut some of them loose as well. Family betrayal, blood or otherwise, brings a level of devastation that feels like a brick wall toppling down onto you. When you can't trust family in this life it's hard to trust anybody in this life. Good stuff, Michael.

This is my neck of the woods! Thank you Michael for this awesome sit-down! That family secrets trial was soo big here in Chicago in the summer and fall of 2007! It's nice to her from Kurt Calabrese, for a change considering how much we've heard from junior, especially here in Chicago. 5 guys were on trial, 4 of them were mob guys and there was 1 retired cop. All 4 mob guys got life and the retired cop got 12 years. I guess the moral of this sit-down is don't go into the life because it will destroy your family!

Michael, thanks for having Kurt C on, first time I’ve seen Kurt speak on his family in public. Your father Sonny indeed knew Frank C Sr while they were locked up together in Milan. In fact, he was mentioned in one of the tapes that Frankie Jr recorded Frank Sr on in prison. Frank Sr was recalling how Shorty LaMantia, another guy from the Chinatown crew, introduced himself under false pretenses to Sonny. Frank Sr made it clear on the tape that Shorty was not made, and was like “you know this guy (Sonny) thinks you’re a made guy now??”. Obviously, if Shorty had been made he should’ve been introduced to Sonny as “amico nostro” by another member as third party anyway, so that would already have been a breach of protocol to introduce yourself as a “friend” directly anyway. On the tape, Frank Sr tells Jr that Shorty picked up how to carry himself as if he were made because he hung around with made guys (Frank Caruso), even though he wasn’t made himself. Frank Sr also said that Sonny wanted to introduce him (Frank) as a member to other NY members, but Frank asked him not to introduce him to anyone else (presumably Frank didn’t trust other guys and didn’t want them knowing that he was a member).

Great interview cuz I've always been intrigued with the whole Calabrese saga and all this time we were only told the Frank Jr side. Enjoyed this very much and must say Michael is really into this interview I think more than any other I've seen him do just by his questions to know details and just great questions to find out motives and reasons for Frank Jr's actions. U can tell Michael relates to this situation and in his head he's Def comparing his bro to this man's bro to know what triggered them to do what they did
