Chicago Mafia : Operation Family Secret | Michael Franzese & Kurt Calabrese
Today I will to talk about something that was huge in Chicago back in 2007. It was called Operation Family Secrets case, a highly publicized and big media affair. And in this episode, I’m going to Sit Down with someone who is very close to that event, the son of Frank Calabrese. Kurt Calabrese is one of two sons of Frank, and he shared a tremendous amount of interesting story about growing in a household with a notorious father, his relationship with his father, uncle and brother, and his involvement in the Operation Family Secret.

I have to say, at first I was disappointed to find out it wasn’t frank jr, but after hearing Kurt speak this sitdown was definitely worthwhile, great job as always Michael!

I agree. This is the first time I've heard Kurt talk. My gut always told me that Frank Jr. was kind of a sleezeball. This definitely confirms that suspicion.
I'm constantly impressed at how much a listener can get out of these sit downs with your guests, Michael. If you listen carefully, there's always something to learn to either avoid or use (for good). I try to never miss a talk.

Dependable of level of your crime and depends of your position and depends what kinda crime you do,and people around you. If you are in Mafia, where you can't allow to be weak, where they pushing you to be brutal, killer, maniac and make you bloody paranoid maniac. If someone owe you money, and if he don't pay, it's not about money, it's about reputation then. You can't allow to people to talk about how ppl screw you and don't pay and you didn't do nothing.. but if you are some small time, without organization, but connections so your able to work, you can do and it don't have to be ego included and don't means long sentences and murders, and you can still make some good money

Throughout my life I love my family but sometimes you have to cut some of them loose as well. Family betrayal, blood or otherwise, brings a level of devastation that feels like a brick wall toppling down onto you. When you can't trust family in this life it's hard to trust anybody in this life. Good stuff, Michael.
Unbelievable sit down! Priceless conversation that I didn’t want to end. Would love to see more of these, beyond special.
Michael Franzese you are a walking living history book. I can't get enough of listening to you. Happy Thanksgiving and God bless you
This was an incredible sit down. I’ve heard and read numerous articles and books about Frank sr , Jr and Nick . Never knew he had another son. Truly enjoyed this one because of the commonality you have with him because his brother turned on his father. Wish it was longer . Thank you Michael 🔥

Me neither! I knew instinctually and from having an understanding of the street and basic psychology that the brother was a lying, thieving snake. I knew immediately that he was a liar. Claimed he was so in fear of her father but steals his entire life savings basically, doesnt do anything to cover it up or hide or run, and voila! His dad who he fears for his life from did nothing to him at all.

The youngest was probably one of the funniest kids around.. great guy he was .. but I also liked Kurt and Frank Jr. .. I know Kurt not happy with Frank Jr. but he was always a good guy to me !! 100%
Thank you Michael, excellent sit down. We always enjoy your presence, content is incredible. Happy Thanksgiving brother 💙
I've read the family secrets book and when the Calabreses talk about how afraid they were of their father, they had every reason to be. The guy was a truly scary individual and seemed to relish the fact that people were frightened to death of him. One of the best sitdowns you've done on your channel Michael. Keep up the amazing work you do.
Yes more Chicago Outfit content!!
I hope Kurt is getting some help for the rage and resentment he has concerning his family. I can hear the energy and pressured speech he has talking about it so many years after.

@@michaelfranzesewe love you Michael! I'm a Chicago guy and we appreciate this content and all of your content. You have such a great way about you and this is The Lords plan for you and to give your testimony to all of us. Classic story, our Uncle Norm who is my moms brother, worked at the A & P was offered a job to drive a Hearst for the local funeral home and it ended up that he was really driving booze in a coffin from Chicago to Milwaukee during prohibition for Copone who had a home in the neighborhood. Keep kickin ass Michael. God bless.

Absolutely great Content. I grew up in Chicago. This was really nice to sit and watch.
I watched both parts, out of order thanks to youtube algorithm but I gotta say you can really see that this guy has a heart and is a genuinely nice guy, you can see him getting close to tears about how this all went down. Great sit down.
I always look forward to these. One of my goals for next year is to binge watch and take notes. I want to become an "expert" in mob knowledge.
Nice - Thank you for dropping some Chicago history!
Really an exceptional piece by you and a bit of a warning about judging people without knowing their story. We have free will but sometimes when you look at the fundamentals of each person's beginnings many of us have to be grateful for what we have been given.
This is my neck of the woods! Thank you Michael for this awesome sit-down! That family secrets trial was soo big here in Chicago in the summer and fall of 2007! It's nice to her from Kurt Calabrese, for a change considering how much we've heard from junior, especially here in Chicago. 5 guys were on trial, 4 of them were mob guys and there was 1 retired cop. All 4 mob guys got life and the retired cop got 12 years. I guess the moral of this sit-down is don't go into the life because it will destroy your family!

It’s really hard when families can’t make it up and realise that life is too short…I could see how it pained him and it’s really good to have someone like you who listen and really understands and getting it off your chest you’re a good listener and that helps a lot it makes such a difference it’s so important just having someone listening it’s helps a lot!🙏💕

Great to hear the other side of a story more on Chicago plz
I first found this channel a few months ago and watched intermittently. Now I find myself trawling back through every single video, they're all interesting. It's fascinating to see, hear and be told all these things about Cosa Nostra, specially from the horses mouth, after so much was shaped by things like GoodFellas, The Godfather flicks, Casino etc. Also really like the approachability, candour and transparency Mr Franzese always shows. Doesn't shy away from his past misdeeds and really seems to be sincere in his denunciation of it.
Michael it's good to hear Kurt's side of the story. That life destroys families in the long run. Thanks for sharing.

Michael, thanks for having Kurt C on, first time I’ve seen Kurt speak on his family in public. Your father Sonny indeed knew Frank C Sr while they were locked up together in Milan. In fact, he was mentioned in one of the tapes that Frankie Jr recorded Frank Sr on in prison. Frank Sr was recalling how Shorty LaMantia, another guy from the Chinatown crew, introduced himself under false pretenses to Sonny. Frank Sr made it clear on the tape that Shorty was not made, and was like “you know this guy (Sonny) thinks you’re a made guy now??”. Obviously, if Shorty had been made he should’ve been introduced to Sonny as “amico nostro” by another member as third party anyway, so that would already have been a breach of protocol to introduce yourself as a “friend” directly anyway. On the tape, Frank Sr tells Jr that Shorty picked up how to carry himself as if he were made because he hung around with made guys (Frank Caruso), even though he wasn’t made himself. Frank Sr also said that Sonny wanted to introduce him (Frank) as a member to other NY members, but Frank asked him not to introduce him to anyone else (presumably Frank didn’t trust other guys and didn’t want them knowing that he was a member).
Happy Thanksgiving Michael and to your family as well😊🦃

Great interview cuz I've always been intrigued with the whole Calabrese saga and all this time we were only told the Frank Jr side. Enjoyed this very much and must say Michael is really into this interview I think more than any other I've seen him do just by his questions to know details and just great questions to find out motives and reasons for Frank Jr's actions. U can tell Michael relates to this situation and in his head he's Def comparing his bro to this man's bro to know what triggered them to do what they did
