Or better yet how about this: 2016: The Year of Blown Leads (or comebacks) Cleveland Cavaliers overcome a 3-1 NBA finals deficit (first time in NBA history) to take down the 73-9 Golden State Warriors (the winningest team in NBA history along with the first and only unanimous MVP named Steph Curry). In addition to this being the first title in the history of the Cavaliers’ franchise, it also marked the first sports title the city of Cleveland, Ohio won and experienced in over 50 years. Chicago Cubs overcome a 3-1 MLB World Series deficit against the Cleveland Indians to break their infamous 108 year long drought (which was the longest championship drought in American sports history across all four major professional leagues) without a World Series victory New England Patriots overcome a 28-3 NFL Super Bowl deficit late in the 3rd quarter (the greatest Super Bowl, and perhaps NFL, comeback in NFL history) against the Atlanta Falcons to win their fifth title in franchise history, as well as Quarterback Tom Brady’s fifth Super Bowl title (who was also named the game’s MVP). Businessman and television personality, Donald Trump, defeats former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, in the 2016 General Election despite every mainstream poll predicting a huge landslide victory for Clinton. Thus, it is seen as one of, if not the, biggest upset in American political history (and perhaps even world history). This marked the first time someone without prior military or political experience became the President of the United States, and sent shockwaves around the world as an outsider managed to take down a literal political machine that had held great influence and power for well over 30 years. Let me know if I missed any

I'm not saying this because my favorite team won it. I'm saying this as a baseball fan. The 2016 World Series was the greatest World Series I've ever watched. Just when people thought the Indians had it in the bag, the Cubs come back and win in game 7 in extra innings. But I'll give props to the Indians. They deserved it just as much as the Cubs did. Both teams played with more heart than I've seen in a long time. Truly puts new meaning to "fall classic."

Boy am I happy to have started watching baseball in 2015. I was just 10 years old when the Cubs won the WS, and before that, I was little more than a math nerd with asthma. But in 4th grade (when I was 9), my dad and my brother pushed with all their might for me to get into sports, both watching and playing, and I can never thank them enough. 2015 the Blackhawks won. 2016 was obviously the Cubs year, and also the year my asthma subsided more and more with proper medication and I started enjoying soccer rather than feeling forced to play it. What a great year! But now I'm here in 2023 with such a close playoff run ending in somewhat embarrassing feat. I would have hope, since we are in the middle of a rebuild, but last time Chicagoans had hope, the Bears ruined it so idk what to do.

That could very well have gone to the players' heads as well. They might have thought "Well, we've got this. And they've obviously given up. We might as well start planning that parade now," and took their eyes off the ball. If you're leading the series 3-1, you have to go into game 5 looking at it as if you're *trailing* the series 3-1, or else you risk losing momentum.

I don't care if my cubbies made a ton of mistakes to make a convincing, 6-1 victory, turn into a 8-7 extra inning close call, but it was enough, they did it, they won it all, best cubs team that the current world population got a chance to witness (for 1906, 1907, 1908 teams, nobody that is alive got a chance to see them play). What a season, what a team, what a run. Best team in baseball from opening day to game 7 of the world series.

Probably the oldest person alive in the US was 114 in 2016. If so, that would've made them 6 the last time the Cubs won it all before 2016. Probably now (5-18-22), there aren't more than 10 people living in the US that were alive in 1908.

Skip agree with everything you said except the obvious. Kris Bryant didn’t throw a strike on the last play. His feet indeed slipped and his throw was expectedly high as a result. For some unknown reason, call it fate, I’m a life long fan, it was just high not excessively so. Riz, was able to catch it with hand up and then raise the non glove hand together in tribute. He didn’t have to jump, he wasn’t pulled off the bag. He extended his hands towards the sky in a show of triumph that was so appropriate that words will never do it justice. This was truly a game for the ages. The Indians were magnificent. They fought tooth and nail. We as Cubs fans sympathize with them and their great fans. But this night, exactly one year ago nearly to the very hour was chosen for us to shed our longstanding grief. We cried that night. Grown men cried. We remembered our family and friends who were not able to see. And for us there is nothing else we will ever need to see from our beloved Cubbies. The thanks and admiration I have for this team that won is ineffable. And we thank you for your courage and blind confidence that was forever lacking for over a century. Rumble young cubs rumble....ahhhhhhhh!

Cubs are in the midst of a 90's braves type of run. They, like those braves, may not win another title. They might win 5. It's a crapshoot once the playoffs start. Last year the Cubs had plenty of injuries and many regulars had terrible years at the plate. They still won the central easily and got past a better WAS team in the NLDS. They will not miss the postseason for years unless a team plane crashes and the team dies or something

I agree with the critique here as Joe Madden who is a fine motivational leader needs to review his tendency to be a Casey Stengel without those kind of intuitive skills in handling pitchers just yet. After observing this team since the early fifties the kinds of challenges they overcame each indicated a test of what has plagued this team for years, the inability to defiantly obliterate error under extreme pressure, something no Cubs team ever seemed to have been capable of handling in such a masterful way until this team so wonderfully constructed and matched made its appearance in this most thrilling of world series. They truly more than compensated for decades of maddening pain and frustration. My hearty congratulations to this fine 'World Class' organization and let this be the start of an entirely different image for them for years to come! edt Chicago, Illinois

Clarence Parker III That doesn't make sense at all. Packers have so many injuries that people have lost count. Once all those players return they'll certainly be improved. They almost beat Atlanta with this injury filled team. Minnesota isn't a threat as we've seen over the course of the past couple weeks. I wouldn't count out Green Bay if I were you.

This day was one of the greatest days of my life. It was actually bittersweet though because of all the needless drama brought about by Joe Maddon's incredibly idiotic managing and panicking on Kyle Hendricks. The umping at the plate in that game was EXTREMELY bad. We won in SPITE of so many things and it was AWESOME!

This wasn't the best World Series ever (only thing exciting was Game 7), Game 7 will probably be there as one of the best, but not quite. The 2001 World Series is the best ever because lots of emotions were high on that game since Game 1, starting with the World Trade Center attack on September 11th and America (mostly New York) needs something to cheer about, multiple lead changes/walk off hits including Game 7 walk off hit by Luis Gonzalez off of the greatest closer of all-time Mariano Rivera.

But the Cubs hitters have shown their ability to adjust to the good pitching. Ask Kershaw. Ask Kluber who the Cubs struggled to get hits off of prior to Game 7. They made Andrew Miller human, for once. Their approach at the plate has greatly improved since last year.

For the first time they had real PLAYERS. They were not stacked with home run hitting "has beens" like in prior years. They were a team of complementary players that simply had all the pieces. Been a season ticket holder for 40 years AND was at all 3 games in 1984 in San Diego when they lost a 2-0 lead in the NLCS. Great day indeed.
