I'm from California but I must admit Chicago has its charm and my wife is from Chicago. Those precious moments spent going on dates with my wife will forever leave me yearning for Chicago again.

I love Loyola University. My father graduated from that Univeristy. I lost him when I was a senior in high school.... Now I lost my husband this year, we had been married 51 years. I know my Dad and Mom is watching over my husband.

I took graduate courses at the Water Tower campus and a couple on the main campus...nice school

I was born and raised in Chicagoland but left in 1981 for NYC and other cities. But Chicago will always feel like home.

Chicago is such a beautiful city. My view of Chicago was negative before I watched this video. I look forward to seeing how Chicago grows!

Im glad i relocated and happier I wish people would be honest yes it is a beautiful city in some parts and in some so not nice people live in fear it has lighten up tremendously but look at the news people cannot go outside without being robbed beat shot or killed yea yea that's everywhere true but could be better IF the people in office do right

I'm from Chicago, I just relocated 3 years ago to explore other environments. I'm glad there's a great video depicting the beauty of my hometown. There's crime & BS no matter where you move. I can always go back to visit 😊. Chicago is beautiful and has a lot of character & culture there. 👑💖✊🏾

I have been away since 1987. I have never found a City I loved more than Chicago. Such richness in culture and diversity. I have been thinking to move back for a while. This helps seal the deal. Thank you Geoffrey Baer.💝

Loved this. 2 hours went by so fast. We need more Documentaries like this!

I’ve been on every single train line in Chicago, and I absolutely love riding them. Certainly has its crazy/frustrating moments, but riding the L helps take my mind off things, relax, and explore new places. Such a strange thing to love, but it’s my connection to Chicago and reminds me why I love this city!

I love this.I learned so much about Chicago's neighborhoods by L. I lived there all my life and never knew how vibrant a place the city actually is

Best documentary ever, Geoffrey Baer and WTTW! You perfectly captured my hometown and the L: my ticket to great journeys since childhood!

Watched this in my Chicago History Class. They cover SO MUCH more here than the original 2001 L tour.

This popped up on my queue and I had every intention of skipping away to another video. 2hrs later, I'm here saying "man, I got to make it back to Chicago!" As a native New Yorker, my answer to the love of trains question is love, hate it or indifferent, there is an unspoken and inspiring investment to one's ability to be able to move about freely that comes with riding the train. Getting from one neighborhood to the next with relative ease and limitless connection and possibility is awe inspiring and reassuringly human. Thank you for this work. I very much enjoyed watching this through.

When I first moved to Chicago I literally rode every line -start to end. It's very easy getting around once you do that. A lot less confusing.

I'm proud of this City. It's a part of me no matter how many years I'm gone from it. Beautiful city. Hope it lasts forever.

@@sassyd8738 true but all places are like that. I can appreciate the beauty in most places. I lived many years in Bogota Colombia and it makes Chicago look tame. There you see some nasty things. The world is an ugly place but I try to see the beauty in it to dodge depression. It ain’t easy for sure

Yes the L... Lake Street L on Chicago's Westside brings back a lot of childhood memories.. They are a big part of my life.

Enjoy! Went 2x in 2023. Was a total blast (one of our favorite places), and fun to explore its many neighborhoods where I'd say its unique characteristics really shine. There are so many things to do across all sides of the city.

This is a terrific video. Chicago sure has changed since I left there about 45 years ago, yet it remains remarkably similar in many ways as well.

I really enjoyed this video I have a love affair with the city of Chicago. I visit the city every other month. I even follow the local news everyday. It's refreshing to see the city I love being shown in a positive light. Thank you!!!!!

Thanks for this video - and for showing how the 'L' is so integrated in the fabric of Chicago. Chicago is truly a microcosm of America. I used to work for the CTA but left to work at another transit system. How I miss the 'L'.

Moved from Japan to Chicago in October 2021, left in November 2022 and still miss it, my favorite city in the US I will always miss that place!

Geoffrey Baer you taught me the unseen Chicago, you are the reason why prefer to take the trains on my journeys!!! And I love it!!! So thank you much respect!!!

This is probably the best overview documentary about Chicago out there. At any rate, this is a must for anyone who loves the city. I'm so happy after watching this.

I’ve been gone since 1992. As a former Hyde Parker, It was and always will be HOME. This video covers all the reasons I’m totally In love this place. It wonderful it highlights the “good parts” of the “bad parts” of the city. Many of new things just thrill me. Anytime folks ask, should I visit Chicago? My response is always “Oh hell yes!”

I miss the old " I. C . or Illinois Central trains, rode them from 82nd and Exchange (So. Chicago) to downtown. Paid .40 ¢ one way. 1963. Love my city, can't beat the food/restaurants. Real food.

One awesome thing about this video is that it highlights the creativity and resilience of many beleaguered and even oppressed peoples who have found their pride of place in and around Chicago. Unfortunately, that wasn’t true for the native peoples who were driven out (or worse!) when the European settlers came to this area. I certainly don’t want to minimize that tragic injustice against those beautiful peoples, but really just say how awed I am by what this video highlights about Chicago and it’s amazing neighborhoods and peoples!

Thank you for showing the awesome stuff that is tucked away on the Southside and not be too cowardly or prejudice to explain this awesome part of the city. God Bless you Sir. You gained a Sub and a fan for life. Please keep doing what you do!

as a kid growing up in chicago the CTA was a way of life to get around for even those who had cars. I remember catching the L on 43rd street to go to comiskey park, wrigley field, lincoln park etc or get off on englewood to shop 63rd st. A or B line. the B line took you further east to Stoney Island and the A line took you to 63rd and Ashland when we moved further east. The best thing about the L was they were 95% on time. When I took my wife who was born/raised in Los Angeles she loved riding the L. I miss chicago.

Chicago is so amazing in many ways. Its crazy how the media tells the world about Chicago's bad stuff but not all the great stuff.

As a youngster, I remember the L cars with wicker seats. Loved them! My uncle said they always smelled like Juicy Fruit gum and peanuts.

This was such a great video! I put this on because I was homesick and it definitely made me more homesick! 😫

I love my hometown so much! The best thing of this documentary, is the representation of how us black people are rebuilding, and putting love back into our neighborhoods! Which is contrary to what people have been led to believe about us on the south and west sides

This is a great documentary on the L Chicago history, and exploring the neighborhoods. I live in Indianapolis but I go to Chicago frequently for work and for fun so I’m very familiar with Chicago. I use the L every time I’m up there. You could say Chicago is my “Second City”.

Absolutely fantastic documentary learned so much history about Chicago I didn't know congrats to the whole team involved from Melbourne Australia

Nothing more fascinating then being a five year old boy in 1962 and exploring the known universe aboard the L. I can still smell the fragrant creosote soaked wood as you climbed the stairs and waited. It was like Christmas in July

It's crazy how I came across this video. It started with the new Obama Presidental Libary and somehow I ended up here! WOW, so much information and historical facts. Lots of info. I have to rewatch it but in segments. I lived in this city my whole life and I've ridden most but not all. Makes me want to do a tour before the weather changes. Very thorough. What an amazing system. I feel like you could spend weeks exploring every stop.

Many memories of a native south sider. Took the Halsted Bus at 99th to 79th, transferred to 63rd, got on the Englewood L B-train, and rode to Addison, a B stop, got off and walked a block to Wrigley to see the Cubs. We were 11 0r 12, 3 of us, and went alone. Did it for 2 years and never had a problem. Years later took the Howard and transferred to Racine and attended U o I Circle. Also took the Howard to Lake Street and the Lake Street L to Harlem to the Oak Park YMCA. It was, and is, an easy system to use. You can get on a Station and ride all day without paying again. You can ride to 95th, get off and cross the platform and ride downtown again. One of my memories is coming in from the north on the old, non Air conditioned cars, on a hot summer day, and descending into the tunnel around Armitage. You got a blast of cool air as you entered the tunnel that felt great. I have to disagree with Mr. Baer. We did call the underground parts of the system the subway. Otherwise a well done, informative and well produced video. Thank you from an old Chicagoan.

I'm from Detroit. We have with Chicago our Lions v Bears rivalry, the bad blood of history with Bad Boys Pistons v MJ Bulls but when the smoke is clear...I love The Beautiful City of Chicago and the Chicagoans who include a lotta my family.

I like this one and the one that was made in 2001, but in this edition of Chicago by 'L,' Geoffrey Baer goes into better detail when he talks about each el line, the communities that they pass through, and the people who call those communities home.

Love this. He is such a perfect guide and all the great people in it make me love chicago. Never been there, unfortunately.

Thanks for this nice video that features the various EL lines and also showed interesting items at several of the stations. I have visited Chicago many times and have ridden on several of the lines featured. Chicago is lucky to have such a good extensive elevated and subway system to get you around to most parts of the city.

My mom had every one of these videos on VHS and DVD before she died. Her favorite was the SW suburbs towards Joliet. This one is my favorite. It always has been. I wanted to get out of Joliet as a teen and jumped onto Metra and would walk the city block by block learning the grid.

Albany Park was my nieghborhood since 1988 , brown line was my way to work for 20 yrs until i left Chicago for Texas in 2016, all the food place by pulaski and montrose OMG !!! never forget the Sushi place _ Lawrence fish market OMG so good

I used to take the El on North Avenue and Damen until I was 30-when I moved to California. Many memories!!

The first L in Chicago opened in 1892 with steam locomotives pulling the trains known as the South Side Rapid Transit Railroad.

I was born in Chicago, at Edgewater Beach hospital. I grew up in the suburbs, but moved to Evanston when I was 22. I worked downtown, and I rode the purple line more times then I could possibly count. I live in Florida now, so thank you for showing me this very well done look at home.
