I squarely place the blame for this Super Bowl loss on Lovie Smith. Refusing to make defense adjustments, taking Thomas Jones out of the game, and so on. Lovie allowed himself to be outcoached, and he was either too stubborn to do anything about it, or he was comfortable with it.
@upchurch231 Жыл бұрын
Man if only the Bears would have signed Kurt Warner instead of Brian Griese. If that happens the Bears win the Super Bowl against the Colts. After the 2005 season when the Bears went with Orton all year they knew they needed a veteran backup behind Grossman because he keeps getting hurt all the time. They went with Brian Griese. If we had Kurt Warner there's no way he doesn't come in at some point during the season when Grossman's having one of his bad Rexgames. I mean look at what Warner did without a great defense like the Bears had just a few years later in Arizona. Warner took Arizona to a Super Bowl like I said with not so great of a defense in Arizona. With how good are defense was and are running game was that year there's no way we don't beat the Colts in the Super Bowl if we have Warner instead of Grossman. We had a chance to but chose Brian freaking greasy. Smh

The closest we ever got to 1985. By far the best team in the 2000's. It was unfortunate the offense could not stay on the field in the Superbowl to give the defense a break. Payton Manning ripped us apart in the second half. I tip my hat off to Manning. As devastated as I was, I was still happy Manning got one. Unfortunately, it was against us.
Hester was a incredible talent and will always bring a smile to my memories of Da Bears!

@@TTSCAM Mike Brown had an outstanding football mind. If only his body could have matched his football IQ. He really is a great example of "what-if." And although I vaguely remember Tommie Harris slipping somewhat in 2006, that could have been because of him being hurt. I could be wrong but that's what I remember. I do wonder how things would be different if Harris and Brown had been at full strength. But injuries happen and a team has to overcome them.
I’m a chiefs fan but I sort have always rooted for the bears. Love the uniforms and their history.

This Bears team was special to me because it had smart, solid guys up and down the roster who didn't make mistakes. They had superstars, yes, particularly Urlacher and Hester, but the rest of team was full of smart, consistent players who may not have been stars but who didn't make mistakes. Kreutz, Jones, Des Clark, Alex Brown, Ogunleye, Briggs, Peanut Tillman, Ricky Manning, and ROBBIE GOULD. Yes, the kicker was a LARGE part of the team's success that year. Had Mike Brown and Tommie Harris not gotten injured, they would have been the second coming of the 85 Bears.

That was a special team.
This one hurts a lot
Here because the 2019-2020 Bears are making me sad.
Whenever the Bears find success, it’s never because of a great offense-it’s ALWAYS because of a phenomenal defense (specifically featuring LBs like Singletary/Urlacher and edge rushers like Dent/Mack), a capable running game, and great special teams. It will be interesting to see if the formula can be repeated to another Super Bowl title in today’s pass-happy NFL with rules mostly geared against defense...
@pdgutierrez8784

Yes the NFL is geared to offense. Cold winters in Chicago and being on Lake Michigan makes passing the football so difficult! That is a big reason why the BEARS never had great QBs.

Man, that was a good team. So close . now the Bears are so far away. Hopefully we get back soon.
Now this is what happens when the Bears do not play the Super Bowl in the land of Jennifer. However the Bears were flat out dominant in the regular season. They won a majority of their games in the land of Jennifer, but the Seahawks made it interesting in the divisional playoff. The Bears let the Saints come marching in up in the land of Jennifer, but when it was over the Saints went limping out. Ballgame over. Bears win. Super Bowl bound.
Bring my era to todays Chicago bears 🐻 and see what happens
This was our year!
Bears should have won this Super Bowl.
Man I will never forget this year or the super bowl and how freaking sad I was after. Grossman actually had a very good year considering his size issue. If he was as tall as Cutler he would have been a great qb. (At 14:04 look at the dudes shoes, he has his 13s *Jordan's turned into cleats lol)
Devin Hesters opening kick return for a TD just goosebumps and chills...after i saw that i honestly thought the bears were destined to win...but peyton manning found a way
Bears sent 8 players to the Pro Bowl (x2 offensive, x3.defensive, and x3 specialists) and some even to the All Pro teams that same year.. The team was literally a QB away from being the most perfect Champion ever. But we were stuck with Jekyll & Hyde "quarterback" Rex Grossman, and suspended NT Tank Johnson / injured DT Tommie Harris leading up to that Super Bowl Sunday. They all deserved better and for the many HOF's or RoH players / coaches, I just wish they'd gotten that Ring... Bear Down (1,2,3 Space Mountain!)
Mat nagy show this to the bears now
I remember that Hester super bowl return like it was yesterday. 🐻 down
I'm a Bear....4 life
I remember this team Thomas Jones Man he rush ball super bowl I thought bears where going win Crush me dat year they didn’t
Firing Lovie was the biggest mistake the Bears ever made. I hope Eberflus brings it back.
I miss the White on White unis...
The voice at about 18:10 sounds like that black coach who shouted shower up!! in the movie "Rudy"
I remember watching the night game against the Seahawks. The TD pass to Berrian (6:30) was the smoothest-looking play... I thought to myself "They're going to the Super Bowl this season." Sadly, the wheels seemed to start coming off the wagon for Grossman during the Monday Night game against Arizona. It was a shame because he looked dynamite for the first five games of the 2006 season, and was the NFC offensive player of the month for September of '06.
Why does no one mention the epic game the 2006 Seahawks and Bears had in the divisional round playoffs that year ? That was ONE helluva game! Bears got the win in OT, definitely the best playoff game that year …

This was, as of 2023, the last time we saw the Monsters of the Midway dominate the NFL
Devin Hester was just inducted into the Hall of Fame
I like how during the bears vs cardinals highlights, the camera cuts to Rex Grossman after each defensive touchdown as if to say "you're freakin useless"
Still hurts they lost but they for sure had the chicago mentality. They were gritty and would play hard and go down swinging for lovie
Indeed this was a great season with a very painful ending unfortunately!!!!!! If Cutler Bears had the 06 o line we would’ve definitely won a few championships. We should of stuck with what got us there in the championship game a heavy dose of Thomas Jones sprinkled with a lil Benson and then hit them with Rex play action. The Bears game plan had Rex out there throwing the ball like he was Manning.
One day soon... the Bears will be champs again.
If Kyle Orton plays, we win that SB. I know, I know...if and could and might have, woulda coulda shoulda It still hurts a bit...

They should've been able to beat the Colts. They were good enough to beat anyone that year.
TJ and Hester
To many haters on Grossman he had a good season,in top 4 QBs in the league, and they had a weak lineman(O) and by end of the season they had an Oline that could be considered no better than decent, lot of people forget Benson was on this team
Smh
Why can't they do it 2020 season
