Chicago Apartment Hunting w/ Prices | Studio Apartment

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi Guys :) My 1st time moving out! :O I toured a couple of Chicago downtown studio apartments in past few weeks. Sharing with you some of the units in the Gold Coast, River North, and South Loop neighborhood. For your reference, my budget was $1,400 - $1,700 range (not including parking). My must haves were in unit washer/dryer, no carpet, big windows, parking, fitness center, outdoor pool, and modern interior. If you're interested in moving into Chicago. Here are some Studio options I toured. Hopefully this gives you some ideas on what to expect :)

Hi, I'm 15 and I've been planning to move to Chicago once I'm older. I've been to Chicago quite a bit growing up and went a few times within the past few years. I went back on March 1st and literally didn't want to leave. It's so beautiful with all the modern structures and ornate stone carvings. It's literally the prettiest place I've ever been and I've never really taken in the glory until recently. I kept telling my mom, "I need to live here, I'm literally moving here" the whole time and she was laughing. Though it's much more expensive than where I currently live (there's a bag fee hello??) the added price is so worth it for how beautiful it is there. I loved being downtown and this video was extremely informative. It's really expensive but not nearly as pricey as New York. Any of these places could have easily gone for $2k+ in New York so I think Chicago would be a little more worth it for me lol. Sorry for the rant, and thanks for the video, it was exactly what I needed. ps. in NY, for like $1500 you would get some crappy little studio facing a brick wall with a fire escape blocking what little view you have. not to mention the roaches and lack of storage. I love NY and I think it's beautiful but my pockets couldn't handle that lmao Chicago it is. (i have family in chicago anyways so it makes sense)

@@QuynhHo I don't know how I never got the notification for your response but yesss! I'm still watching so many Chicago apartment videos and videos about life there in general. I don't know why I do this to myself when I still have years to wait lmao. Also, thanks to you, I now know 2 beds are cheaper than 1 bed and studios which is a huge helpful tip but also very surprising lol. I can't wait to live there, I'm so excited. I've watched some other videos of yours and they're also very helpful for the future when I apartment hunt. (the 15 things you need to know before apartment hunting in Chicago) its very helpful so thank you.

I don’t quite live in downtown chicago right now, but am looking at comparable studio apartments throughout the city. Have you liked your time living downtown so far? After a year is over would you choose to continue living at the apartment that you chose? Move back farther out? Maybe even further into the city? I've lived here my whole life as well, just a few months shy of the half century mark. I'm more of a neighborhood person, I was born in Andersonville, then moved to Albany Park and went to school in that area. Once it got overtaken by the gangs we moved to Sauganash. We had to stay within the City limits because my Dad worked for the City. Anyway, I've visited a few people that lived in these types of buildings and while they are nice, they are a no-go for me. I cannot imagine not being able to open my windows and having fresh air roll thru my apartment...especially in the bathroom and kitchen. Fresh air is an absolute MUST! Moving sucks down there, tiny elevators and you need to reserve them and only allowed 2 hours. Deliveries suck, especially if you're an Amazon shopper and you constantly are going up n down just to grab your packages and then same with garbage/boxes. Theres also hella crazy issues with food deliveries as its difficult for the drivers to find parking. The views are spectacular of course but when you take into consideration parking costs, no open windows(or just a few inches), delivery issues, and not to mention the expensive price to rent a place thats essentially the size of a small bedroom. But to each their own I suppose :)

ppm is the worst management company in chicago. a lot of first time wanting-to-live-downtown young professionals get tricked into renting with them. and especially 1111 n dearborn is a terrible building, that has terrible reviews. some i looked up and some i heard first hand from friends. i lived in 1133 n dearborn it was nightmare. i had a crazy rude neighbor who would always yell and call in false noise complaints. even from day one in the middle of the afternoon when my movers moved me in. then i was constantly being harassed by the door woman who seemed to get enjoyment in constantly banging on my door at all hours of the night, even if my apartment was radio silent... they were so racist against me, the property manager screamed at me when i voiced my complaints against my neighbor and the door woman. then they threatened me. when i got my last false noise complaint (i don't even think i was home that day), all management avoided me and refused to give me the details (even as little as the time) of the complaint when they didn't do that the first 2 "complaints." instead they wanted to file a 10 day notice towards me. luckily the lawyer i hired helped me out and i was able to break lease and move to a much more luxurious building that ive been in for years now, with no problems and it was a much newer building with better amenities. while 1111 is in a great location i hope you didn't pick them. the south loop ones are very nice but you have but to factor the neighborhood, does it have the nightlife you're looking for and if the roosevelt train stop will you feel safe getting on and off that stop consistently at night. amli 808 is closer to where i live now and it's such a prime area! you're close to gold coast and river north and you're right by the brown line which is a more chill line at that location. you can walk everywhere and theres a ton of nightlife and transportation around. and it's a safer part of river north. if you don't count the gas station across the street. my vote is for you to pick one of the two river north apartments! but the first south loop studio looks nice (i wouldn't pick it though bc i would facing a brick wall and that gets depressing.) hoped you chose wisely! :) i love living in a luxury apartment downtown.

Wow thank u so much for sharing your story!!! What a nightmare! So sorry I had to go through that! And thank god you got out! I didn’t choose the 1111 n Dearborn! I honestly did not like the vibe there. The door lady didn’t seem genuine and the building was so old honestly lol. Yes exactly! South loop was nice but like u said the Roosevelt station and facing a brick wall… is a no no lol so depressing :( I went with the River north one! Greystar management team! They are so far amazing!🥰 so happy with my decision!!

Let me know the building you’re interested in and I can give you the location. Except for the last building (since I’m renting that one) it’s definitely more affordable compared to NYC! However, I’m leaving out amenities prices and parking garage as well!
