Chic - 'Le Freak'! Reaction! Getting Invited to Studio 54 and Getting Denied at the Door!
Ойын-сауық
"Le Freak" is a popular disco song by the American band Chic. It was released in 1978 as the lead single from their album "C'est Chic." The song was written by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, the founding members of Chic, and it became one of their biggest hits.
"Le Freak" is characterized by its infectious groove, funky bassline, and catchy chorus. The lyrics of the song tell the story of the band's experience with rejection at Studio 54, a famous New York City nightclub, where they were denied entry after being invited by Grace Jones. The chorus of the song repeats the lines "Aaah, freak out! / Le freak, c'est chic," which became iconic and instantly recognizable.
The song's disco sound, combined with its memorable hook and danceable rhythm, made it a chart-topping success. "Le Freak" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and became Chic's biggest hit single. It also achieved international success and has remained popular in the decades since its release.
"Le Freak" not only became a disco anthem but also a cultural phenomenon. Its impact on popular music is significant, and it continues to be played and enjoyed by audiences around the world. The song's success solidified Chic's status as pioneers of disco and helped shape the sound of the late 1970s music scene.

I can attest to the fact that everyone hit the dance floor when this jam came on. Chic got the ultimate revenge for their rejection-a huge hit! 😁
Nile Rodgers, the brother in the black jacket IS still a legendary producer-songwriter. From Chic, Sister Sledge to Madonna down to Pharrell Williams & Daft Punk & “Get Lucky” .

Super young NILE RODGERS
Great Reaction and great song/group. Yep other songs from Chic you could play include: "Good Times", "Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance everybody Dance. Also seeing as Grace Jones was mentioned - how about doing a reaction to one of her songs/videos too? Maybe: "I've seen that face before" or "Walking in the rain or "Slave to the Rhythm" or "Pull up to the bumper"?
Long time since I heard this song
I Want Your Love, Good Times, Warm Summer Night, Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance ...
The bass!!! 🔥
Nile Rodgers is currently touring with Duran Duran. I was honored to see them perform recently in Tampa, FL and they sound amazing.

This song was a banger when it first hit, still is. My first 45 record though, was “Boogie Nights” by Heatwave. Now that is one I’d love to see y’all react to. Should’ve seen this curly haired white kid dancing to that record lol. I had the moves! 🙂
And there he is The Legend Niles .Yay.🙏🏴Trampps, Detroit Emeralds OJays , Gladys, what a time.🌹
Great party song 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Bass player the late Benard Edwards along with Nile Rodgers formed Chic. Bernard Edwards was one of the best bass players. You guys do a great job. Keep on dropping these cool reactions.
During the Punk period in the UK, Chic was loved and played everywhere and respected.
Roller skating music ❤
Nile Rodgers' Plexiglass Guitarman 🔥🔥🔥
“Everybody Dance” was another banger by them. 🔥🔥🔥
Studio 54 opened as a Disco in April 1977 through early 1980…..Disco was a fad that lasted until 1979 ….the last big Disco song was We Are Family…by Sister Sledge….it was made famous by the 1979 Pirates who won the World Series

Really into the early 80s because some super-hit still came out till it yes was mainly in dance clubs circuit and House music vs top 20 to top 10 hits. Probably by the 1979 Chicago White Sox game incident.... still hit songs did occur into early 80s. Hit back hard.... was probably.... being too gay (as it started their community and of course as gay anthems) and too black for many hits were Black artist. The 1980s then continued much more top charting white artist under Rock, Hard Rock, Hair Metal and general Pop etc. Disco overstatuate everything and Americans many rejected changing fashion it was inspiring It got into... got over-exposure for those who did not want such change.... similar to today reject change from less manly conservative values etc. Official as listed as all Disco perhaps 1981.... more like 1982 that Disco was declared dead. Yet continued in other aspects as in House Music thru the 80s and beyond. Still even in 1982 The song - Gloria came out by Laura Branigan and again energized it a bit ..... EXAMPLES... Blondie - Call Me #1 in 1980. Lipps Inc. - Funkytown #1 in 1980. Kool and the Gang - Celebration #1 in 1981. Gloria - Laura Branigan #2 in 1982. The Weather Girls - It's Raining Men #1 in 1982. Irene Cara - Flashdance #1 in 1983. Pointer Sisters - I'm So Excited #9 in 1984 remix.
Chic was rad ❤️
This one of my favorite band with "change".
I was in junior high, white kid in a small town in Nebraska. I loved all the songs on this 8 track tape and wore it out before I finished high school. Followed Nile Rodgers off and on through college and loved when he hit again with Daft Punk.
Not only can Nile Rodgers play a mean guitar, he's also a very talented producer and song writer for so many other artists. I thought he played the bass, but in this video it doesn't appear that way.
Please put my favorite song of theirs’ on your list: “I want your love”. Thanks guys!

David Bowie went to Nile Rogers to perform and produce a dance music album. "Let's Dance". Bowie went from years as an avantgarde artsy musician to rock star status. You want to make a dance album, hire Nile Rogers. He toured with Bowie for years after that.
Next: Sister Sledge “He’s The Greatest Dancer” 🔥 I have always thought that people who hated Disco simply couldn’t dance and were socially awkward; may be mean, but true. It is nearly impossible to not feel uplifted and happy when listening and especially when dancing ❤
I love their music, I grew up in the disco days. I can also recommend their song : Chic, chic, also really funky!
I can't resist a good bassline
Shout out to Fenom202, thanks for clarifying that y'all had not seen the video before. I had left a comment in your, "Boogie Wonderland", comments section saying that in order for these to be legit reactions, something has to be new to at least one of you, whether that be the music video, the live performance, or of course, the song itself. And that we appreciate knowing which of you knows what, when it comes to each reaction you guys post. So thanks for telling us the music video was new to y'all. And btw, I always thought it was one girl, too. It's an all-time classic song, and I love the Studio 54 backstory you provided, I did not know that. lol Next from your channel I suggest you do your second Bee Gees reaction, to their song, *"Fanny (Be Tender With My Love)",* it is awesome. It's probably new to all 3 of you, but even if it's not, there is a great music video of them performing the song. To find the video I'm talking about, do a search for it on KZread by typing in: *Bee Gees - Fanny Be Tender With My Love (Full Version)* It was posted 13 years ago and has 1.4M Views. I *_strongly_* recommend you use that exact video. You fellas will love it! (Mrs. Gibb, the 3 boys' mother, said it was her favorite song her sons had ever made. I think I agree with her.) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nile Rogers also collaborated with Avicii and Adam Lambert for Lay Me Down. Adam performed it at Avicii’s tribute concert after Avicii died. Worth a watch, visually and musically.
In the early 80s nobody seemed to appreciate Chic. 'Dissco is dead' they said - overlooking the fact that Chic were not JUST a disco act. Nile was head-hunted by Madonna & Bowie. Bernard by Robert Palmer & Power Station. And 'only the drummer' Tony Thompson got recruited by Led Zeppelin of all people. Bernard (his bass never replicated since) & Tony are gone now but Nile is still out there making fine music and continuing the legacy of the CHIC Organization.
They are dressed sharp!! I love this song, but I have never seen them. I get the name of the band. They are Chick

After watching the documentary on Studio 54, maybe it was a blessing. They refused many famous people but it was a pretty trashy place to be honest. Disco was huge in the 70's, I loved it and so easy to dance to. You guys should react to "A Taste of Honey", "Boogie, Oogie Oogie."
Another hit, great to hear again. So much fun!

Thanks for listening
You should also listen to their hits, “Dance, Dance, Dance” and “Good Times”.
Actually, there was only one female voice for the song’s recording which is heard here. It was Norma Jean Wright. But for live performances, Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers both felt that a second female singer was needed so they hired Lucí Martin, a friend of Norma Jean’s. They are the two women in the video.
Released in 1978
Oh yeah! Great choice - a true classic! And there's another group with a lone white guy on keyboard 😅 He looks like a guy from a 1980s commercial for Buster Brown shoes.
Public Enemy hoodie is rad, peace y'all
In addition to their own hits (Dance Dance Dance, Everybody Dance, I Want Your Love, Good Times, My Forbidden Lover, My Feet Keep Dancing, Rebels Are We, Soup For One), Chic (collectively and/or individually) have written, produced, played/sang on hits for Sister Sledge (We Are Family, He's The Greatest Dancer, Lost In Music, Thinking Of You, Frankie), Norma Jean Wright (Saturday, High Society), Diana Ross (Upside Down, I'm Coming Out), Sheila & B. Devotion (Spacer), Debbie Harry (Backfired), Madonna (Like A Virgin, Material Girl, Angel, Dress You Up), Carly Simon (Why), Duran Duran (The Reflex, View To A Kill, Notorious), Grace Jones (I'm Not Perfect), Jody Watley (Don't You Want Me), Power Station (Some Like It Hot, Get It On), Robert Palmer (Addicted To Love, I Didn't Mean To Turn You On), David Bowie (Let's Dance, China Girl, Modern Love), Daft Punk (Get Lucky), Beyonce (Cuff It), etc... Chic is also one of the most sampled bands.
Try Good Times by Chic next. Great, oft sampled, groove with lyrics lifted from 1930s Depression era songs. Chic's ironic way of commenting on the social/financial issues of the 70s.
Please review “Electric Avenue”, Eddie Grant. Recently had an experience with this song in a supermarket where I heard various shoppers singing the “oh NOOO” part of the chorus. It was an odd moment of unity. This song really stands up.
What about doing a Rolling Stones video, music is good and they are normally quite amusing.
Please listen to Good Times, Dance, Dance, Dance, Everybody Dance, I Want Your Love, My Feet Keep Dancing to name a few. Chic which was lead by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards also produced Sister Sledge’s smash album “We Are Family” Diana Ross’s hit album “Diana”..Nile Rodgers went on to produce Madonna “ Like A Virgin” , David Bowie “ Let’s Dance” and many, many, more.
This is a 70s Disco song.
Please react to their I want your love, and Everybody dance.
Nile Rogers' guitar is transparent! Built of fancy transparent plastic instead of wood.
Language language gentlemen! 🤗
70s disco classic! Why so dismissive of the 80s, though? My 40th class reunion is this Summer & I'm sure there will be plenty of this music floating along The Ohio River.
original lyrics werent freak out, they were fuck you for studio 54 not letting them in, song was so good they had to change the lyrics
