Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj: The Founder of the Maratha Empire

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a prominent 17th-century Indian ruler and the founder of the Maratha Empire in western India. Born on February 19, 1630, in the hill-fort of Shivneri near Pune, he was the son of Shahaji Bhosale, a Maratha general, and Jijabai. Shivaji is renowned for his innovative military tactics, guerrilla warfare, and fortifications. He established a competent and progressive civil administration, promoting the welfare of his subjects and emphasizing the importance of Hindu traditions. Shivaji was crowned as the Chhatrapati (Emperor) of the Maratha Kingdom in 1674 at Raigad. His legacy continues to inspire millions as a symbol of resistance against oppressive regimes and a champion of Indian self-rule. He died on April 3, 1680.
