After 50 years of performing in the largest venues in the world countless times, he's obviously very comfortable in the club setting as well and that is awesome. The man is a legend.

Gene Simmons kicking ass. Even when Gene is in casual behavior and relaxed, once the music starts the demon begins to emerge uncontrollably and he always delivers a killer performance.

He’s 16. Will be 17 in August, but yes you’re right. He’s young and full of energy. He tends to uptempo the songs naturally and I think Gene consistently redirecting him to lower the tempo kind of threw him for a bit of a loop, but it’s all good. Lessons from a great. Every good musician needs moments like this to continue developing their skills. ❤

Unscripted? Have you seen a KISS show? He's been making the same "unscripted" arm gestures during Deuce for decades. He does the same thing with his solo band now. Also, Gene has readily told other bassists that he thinks he's a shitty player. He's certainly not technical. He does simple things well. I think he'd say he's an entertainer first and a musician second. He's still a rock legend regardless.

How cool was that? Imagine your cover band is playing in a club and Gene Simmons asks if he can sit in on a Kiss song. WOW.

SAW THEM LIVE ABOUT '75 OR '76! BACK WHEN THEY WERE ON THEIR WAY UP AND HADN'T STARTED PLAY THE "COMMERICAL ROCK" THAT GOT THEM FAMOUS. THEY WERE YOUNG AND GREAT!

@@mooch514 yes. When someone has a different opinion you should assume they are dealing with some deep-seated frustration and in need of professional help. 🤣 I just noticed that Gene's improvisations were random and out of key. That's all. No reason to get all worked up.

I'm sure drummer is a nice guy but...cardinal sin of drummers is to speed up tempo when doing fills. Lock into the tempo and the song will have more power.

Poor guy was shot out of a cannon excited I'm sure. Gene was working him the whole song to slow down. He did fine. And tempo shifts are what make rock n roll... Stewart Copeland shifts tempo like crazy, and people think he's a pretty ok drummer.

@@SiloSoundStudios You're comparing apples and pizza. Deuce does not have any tempo or time signature changes in it. There's a difference between playing ahead or behind the beat and what took place it this vid. Also, if Stewart is going to change tempo in a song like this ot would for sure be planned. This is not a free form jam song where stuff like tempo changes randomly happen. It's simple meat n potatoes rock. To be fair, please cite the Stewart Copeland song you were referring. Cheers.

Young drummer was too busy before the song and very inconsistent on speed. That was awful. That’s job #1

The kid needs more experience. I'm sure he can get there. His playing was all over the place especially the snare rolls leading to the guitar solo and to end the song.

Yeah I have to agree with you ,Good Drummers are hard to come by kinda like good vocalist everyone thinks they can sing until you put a mic in their face and a crowd in front.of them then everything changes well except the ego problem that never stops.

I have no idea why these legends like Gene have agreed to play a gig like this. I know from the comments that the drummer is a teenager but his skill level is just not there yet. The tempo goes all over the place and Gene has an embarrassed awkward smile on his face the whole time.

Gene sounds great. Guitar player was spot on. Not sure what the drummer was doing. Maybe he was building a shack back there, idk. Still, would’ve loved to have seen that.

It's a great song from the day & cool even though it's a little night club thing....compare it with the old days when it was about 120 decibel level, huge flames & spitting blood haha

It sounds and appears to me that he's in this band because of who his dad was, not because he's the new chopmaster general. My ears tell me Taylor should have gotten him a metronome for his 8th birthday. But hey - it's only rock and roll not saving the world so what the hell it doesn't sound that great it's still fun.

Shane needs to cut out the constant fills between songs. Good young drummer, but that is amateur behaviour. And yes, Gene was telling Shane to bring it down-and rightfully so-he was rushing like crazy. Not meaning to be critical of him at all, just some professional advice. ADDED A DAY LATER-I’ve never once said Shane isn’t a good drummer-or potentially a GREAT drummer. He IS. He just needs to learn a few of the musical and behavioural building blocks of being a working pro player, that’s all. I for one hope he goes far and has a great career-he’s a powerhouse of energy-just like his dad was.

His time was definitely all over the place. But I imagine the chance to play with Gene Simmons spiked his adrenaline super high. You can even tell before they started playing, he had all this nervous energy. A chance of a lifetime.

Yeah. He’s 17 and plays every bit like an excited 17 year old. Not really listening to anyone else and showing off his chops instead of just playing for the song. I’ve had countless drum students like Shane over the years. They usually figure it out after they’re yelled at enough about their time by other musicians. lol.

Wow, the the way Gene gesticulated to the drummer at the end to calm the FxxK down, or am i wrong. That drummer though, plenty go learn here on in.

I feel Hawkins questioned whether to play slower, or softer in his head. Sure he was playing fast, & loud but if that happens you just go with it. Then again, Gene is much older now and probably prefers a more steady pace for singing. The kid is 16 years old (I think don’t quote me) and has lots of talent. Any band would be very lucky to have him.

Did he turn to Hawkins jnr and say chill with his hands at the end? Or am I imagining things. He's a talented drummer but he probably could do with reigning in the energy a bit keeping things a little tighter timing wise. Not saying he's bad, just noticed a few points where the tempo of the snare started lagging. Hard to hit as hard as he does and maintain the performance, in a few more years and the right experience he will be a great drummer

I came here after Eddie Trunk's footage on Insta (who's standing on the right). I counted Gene waving Shane down 4 times. Harder to see here as his right hand is obscured when he turns to Shane. But this angle shows another time between 3:11 - 3:16. My take is Shane is ahead of the beat in relation to Gene's more relaxed feel on the bass. Very interesting.
