Thank you so much for sharing this video, I think in my opinion you r the only one here on KZread finally make the video on the right spot from where exactly oil leaks comes from for most of the oil leaks problems it may help for so many, highly appreciated for this video
Good job on the video. I didnt think about that part of replacing. Im hoping i dont have to take it to a shop. I have oil leake somewhere below on my 2005 chevy suburban. Thank u.
Nice easy fix! :)
Nice job
Nice fix ., 👍
Hi Rob, If the rubber on the old gasket was still pliable, probably just tightening the bolts would have worked. However, a new gasket gives that piece of mind it's fixed. You and the family stay safe. 73 WJ3U

Would locktight help in this repair? Or is that bad idea…?

@@wrenchboostboi8994 Never use lock tight on that. You'll regret it if you strip out the threads.
Hey, Torquey!! Easy on that oil filter! Quarter turn past hand tight is all you ever need. ;)
Got a 2012 gmc terrain and I just changed the oil 1 week ago and drove for 1,400 miles. Also it only has 126k miles on it. Any easy fix.
I don't like those new metal gaskets - I've heard they leak over time. GM no longer sells the ones with the rubber lining. I replaced the one on my 2006 Yukon with a metal one. I used a little permatex right stuff on it. Seems to be holding up well.

The permatex is a good idea

@@SevenFortyOnehad the gasket done well for you over time?
I have a 2008 Escalade EXT. It has the 6.2 and all wheel drive so same setup as yours. I have owned it since 2013 and it just passed 100K miles. It has been leaking oil for the last few years. Not much, my guess is maybe 1/2 tea spoon on the driveway in a 24-48 hour period after driving for a while. I believe my oil leak is coming from the same place. I will post back once I dive into it.

I believe the 6.2 actually has the oil cooler connected to this spot. Not capped like this 1. Towing package comes with the cooler.

@@EricTireguythis answers my question! I was thinking, “well what’s this even for?!?!” 🤪👏🏻
I assume that's where an external oil cooler would plum in. Don't clean the residue, that's corrosion control!!! A 2007 in maine would be on the scrap pile with rust. You must have less salt events in the winter.

I bought this a year ago and before I got it it lived in Virginia all it's life which is why it's still so clean undeath
Good luck getting the right torque in a tight spot like that
🚨🚨Cheater tip: if you put a red solo cup under the filter while you rotate it out it will catch all the oil and not get all over the place.

If you pop a hole in the bottom with a nail punch and let it drain, there is zero mess. 🤘🏼
That original gasket wasn’t the correct one? The new one you bought is correct for cover plates, that original one is meant for oil cooler lines that come with the tow package. Was that something corrected later or something? Am I crazy here… or did the factory just say efff it and use the same ones?

Might not be original...I bought this car used with 170k on it and a questionable pedigree
So what is that piece called that you changed the gasket

Oil cooler block off plate or something like that
There are so many leak points on these that GM ought t be ashamed of themselves. Most LS engines installed in cars have the back two cylinders under the dash - they are impossible to work on. The O-Ring style of seal is also used on the valve covers.
Was the leak stopped after all? Any update please?

I believe it could trick you, my question is will this leak go to other side of transmission and this still be the reason. @SierraLee-sm4lk
What do you call that piece

Strange… that original gasket isnt meant for block off plates, its meant for the actual added oil cooler lines for towing package. Not sure why factory would have used that same gasket?

Oil cooler block off gadket
Rev probably would’ve worked
That was pretty easy. Ok, so you ran it for 2.5 seconds longer without oil pressure by not filling the filter! lol
