Chevy Cruze - Leaking Water Outlet

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I have a look at a customer's 2015 Chevy Cruze that was towed in because it over heated on the lady. A visual inspection showed that the water outlet housing had been leaking for a while and the car finally ran out of coolant. Let's get it fixed for this lady.

"Well there's your problem lady", "its got the big 5-0 in it", "we got ourselves a Hondoo", "from Napa(r) not a sponsor" and so on and so on has become the Pinnacle of mechanical terms in my mind. There is no such thing as a "boring SMA"-video, the presentation is half the meal.

Lemme tell ya's somptin. Videos made in a real shop, by a real tech, using real language all that combined with great oration skills, a great script (whether ad lib or preconceived matters not) good videography and vid editing and you have the ingredients for an interesting channel. I understand the funk, I want a channel (at least a channel that is well received like 56k views in 16 hours well received) but I have nothing that interests me in my life so I am sure there is nothing interesting to share on YT. You are an enigma, great guy, great tech, nice shop and a good channel. Stop beating on yourself and enjoy the fact you are ok in many ways. Peace out Brother.

I am 10 years older than the state of Alaska, I have no time for funk. 😁

You don't have to be in a funk. Sometimes the good stuff come sin the door and you get an amazing diag video, and some weeks it is just a parade of dead sensors and cracked water pipes. It is the nature of the business, and your approach to it all is good and positive. If nothing else, it is nice to know that you can still work on a newer car without needing a degree in rocket science.

Whoa! I've actually done this job on my buddy's 14 Cruze. These things really are the gift that keeps on giving. Pressure test the cooling system, find a leak at the thermostat housing, repair, repeat pressure test. Leak at the water outlet. Fix, repeat. Water leak at the turbo return line - for Pete's sake! We also did the upper (driver's side) radiator hose, and the clamp on the radiator end was a humongous PITA to get to. We took out the battery w/tray and the PCM. This car can take a long drive off a short pier for all I care (as long as nobody gets hurt, of course).

I've always wondered what those wings on the connector were called. Now I'll just call them "dongers"! 😉The car manufacturers must have all gotten together and decided to create plastic cooling system failure points. My Dodge had a molded plastic Tee, in the heater core circuit, but I cut it out and replaced it with a PEX brass Tee fitting so I don't have to worry about it anymore. I've always enjoyed watching, as I find your videos to be very informative!

A "day in the life" video where you just show a little of each job you meander through in a typical day would still be entertaining because it's you. I have a sonic with the 1.8, different motor, same issue. Lots of people replace the thermostat housing on the 1.8 and 1.4 with the aftermarket one that is made of metal. Jury is still out as to wether the potmetal is any better than the plastic in the long term. Once you've replaced all the factory cooling system components on the 1.8, they're ok beaters. Once you send the 1.4s to the junkyard, they get melted down into new thermostat housings to keep the 1.8s on the road.

Mr. O you can always gives us a world famous SMA brake video 😁 I know I will watch it.

You could upload a video of you pumping up a tire and i would still watch it. Content on a pure technical scale is one thing, the way you present it is something hard to explain, ment in the most positive way possible.

OEM parts are often of disappointing quality, but Dorman actually has made a few improvements in the aftermarket. As case-in-point, Dorman corrected a design problem with the full plenum intake manifold on GM 3.8L engines. The OEM part had a tendency to melt when hit by recirculated exhaust, and the Dorman isolated the exhaust line more effectively, all but putting an end to the flaw for most such engines.

When adding coolant to any system, make sure you allow the engine enough time to bleed out all the air. I recently had my cooling system flushed and refilled, and I had to go back to the Dealer THREE TIMES, because my Low Coolant light kept coming on. The Mechanic admitted he was in a rush that day, and, it was his first time dealing with a Cummins Diesel engine.

I was in the trade long enough to remember before they started using plastic components on cooling systems. Ok, the aluminium stuff did suffer from corrosion after a while, but you didn't get hairline cracks in it from too many heat cycles like you do with plastic. In the nineties, Ford had to replace the all-plastic intake manifold on the 4.6 V8 after too many failures of the coolant crossover pipe (replacements had that part cast in aluminium). Material technology has no doubt improved since then, but I still don't trust it over long periods of service.

My daughter has one of these shit boxes here in Australia. Just about to replace the negative battery cable to fix the electrical dash issues they have. She never asked me before she bought a new one of these. It's still going and has a crack in the turbo and a coolant leak I can't find but apart from that it's is another fine GM product.

@@MattExzy They take them for a drive when brand new and they drive pretty well and they sell. They are like all GM stuff with really common problems that they never fix. They should have left the Daewoo badge on it to warn people.
