CHEVY COBALT DEAD MISFIRE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHING DIAGNOSIS
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Welcome back! In today's video we take a look at a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt with a 2.2l Ecotech engine. The customer complaint is that the check engine light is flashing and the engine has a severe misfire! After replacing the coils and spark plugs we realize that the misfire is more serious than we initially thought. Follow along as I show you how to diagnose an engine with low compression and how we were able to identify a leaking exhaust valve.

My automobile knowledge has never accelerated so much in so little time. I had no idea the amount of diagnostic tools available to us. You have gone above and beyond. I truly hope life is treating you well. Thank you for the knowledge.
This video was great. Misfire diagnostics are commonplace in this industry. Thank you
I love when I go into something and it takes a totally different direction. Makes these jobs fun and keeps things interesting. Nice find!
One of my favorite misfire diagnosis I've seen. Great Job.
Soy Fadi de Siria, vivo en Estados Unidos, trabajé durante dos años como mecánico y ahora tengo un taller. Me gusta ver tu trabajo. Eres inteligente.
Eric, in my opinion, you are one of the two best diagnostic experts on automobiles that are on KZread. Every step of your diagnosis is to the point with important information and without a lot of filler (such as how to remove this bolt, or how to remove the spark plug, etc) Each step is quickly stated with all the important information. This coming from a technician that worked in dealerships for over 40 years. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos and to try figuring out the problem along with you.
The misfire counter for each individual cylinder is a great feature to have on a scan tool. A small scan tool with some good features.
Erick making compression sounds is priceless 😂cool video to see the valve gap
We appreciate your content Eric
Such an awesome video. Definitely looking forward for the second part.

Eric, AWESOME content thanks for sharing and doing relative compression from the car battery as u down in the past would be much easer to find low compression as always great information. cheeeeeers
Awesome stuff as usual brother 👍 so much good info in here
Excellent diag bro!
Nice and complete diagnostic!
Another great video, I hope you make a video. WHEN fixing the transmission code.

Excelent diagnostic.👍
Great job, You would make a great teacher. I look forward to more videos.
Nicely done ✅
Holy crap!!! I want that GM scan tool to see Lloyd! That is a whole new advantage that I have not seen with my 06 Chevy Cobalt! That scan tool is the most useful tool I have seen in a very long time. Thank you! For your video. Lloyd is in better shape than than this vehicle at this time. He is about to roll over to 200k. I love him so much.
Thank you Eric.
you could have put a rubber glove over exhaust and taped to seal. to demo the air leaking as it would blow up and explode and looking at the valve it was wobbling so the valve stem guide is shot can't wait to see fix keep up the good work Eric
Great diag!
One of the most educational passionate skilled professional tutorials ever ! Thanks for the great work to teach us .
Thanks!
Waiting for part 2
Good job
great video
Excellent video. Just wondering if you posted the next video yet with the valve replacement?
Part 2 ...YAY
Great video, this one is going to be costly. . . ...
great video tks
4:58 It is going to be Cylinder #2, my man! THANK YOU for making videos that aren't ANNOYING or CORNY as well!!! I like.
Oooch! I heard it on the first take after you swapped the coil and experienced the hard start. Was thinking this has to be something more than ignition. Painful news!
Very interested to see what you find - looked like the valve was maybe bent, but how did it get bent?
Hey, thanks
Hope this customer has deep pockets. They're gonna need them with this car.
Thank you for fixing my car
Good video
Ouch. I hate that situation. Thinking the best and its the worst. I been there a few times.

I'm just glad when I discover the cause.
It wouldn't be a bad idea to do a leakdown test on the fuel injectors. Sometimes a partially plugged one can overheat the exhaust valve and burn a chunk out of it. I realize this one appears to be bent or the seat in the head is fubared, but just saying.

The part 2 should be interesting: finding out why the valve travel seems shorter (not seating) or appears bent.

I'm working on a 2010 Malibu 2.4. Had a #2 misfire so I replaced #2 coil. Now it's got a p0300.
The great master
So do sparkplugs not go bad? Or was that one still in okay condition? Dope vid, gotta show off the prndl hair ball in part 2
I like your videos. Very Good 👍 some day I would like to be like you( smart)
Well I think once you take care of the engine issues... there may be a good possibility that the transmission issues could correct. Erratic Rpm can disrupt inputs, and include flag false codes. I'm looking forward to seeing the work getting done! On another note.... other YTers and colleagues and I just got done with the Super Saturday Automotive Training event here in Philly. You NEED to go to one of these events... and Oz I'm sure would be there too.... though he wasn't at this SS, I think he was just at ASTE in NC. You would fit right in! Plus! There's so much knowledge being passed around! Stay safe! Ttys

Fixing the engine will not fix the shift solenoid concern on this. This is a 4T45E trans and that code P0973 is a 1-2 shift solenoid circuit code. Have put lots of solenoids in these for that, also wire damage on top of the trans for different circuit codes, especially rodent damage.

@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO very understandable. Family 1st, especially the little ones. Well, I hope los abuelos or maybe they have a titi to help you out. Lol 😬😉
My car seems to have ALL the symptoms this car has. My coils and spark plugs are good. All I can do is pray and hope it doesn’t need a new head. I don’t have the money to fix it. It’s a 2010 chevy cobalt Lt 🙏🏼
first thing i always check on the later model vehicles is a load test on the battery. a weak battery will cause multiple problems throughout the computer
Great.

Eric how long did it take and where did you get all this knowledge from? I feel like six months working with you would be like ten years in the field. Just subbed newer tech here.
Hey bro, is the scanner the one to get or a tech2 for a 2005 Tahoe? Thanks for your input.
Wish I 4 hands so i could give it 4 thumbs up!!
Hey Eric, great diag. Have you seen or used the Autel MaxiAP AP200 OBD2 Scanner. It uses your cellphone and a dongle to connect. Let me know if you've ever tried it and what do you think about it's functions and capabilities.
Do you regap plugs when you clean them?
Did you check the compression in the other cylinders? The second one checked at less than 100 psig which is too low. A valve job may not fix the engine?
wonder if they make for other brands
I had a bad coil pack that caused mine. Another time piston 2 and 5 exited the block and it ran on the other 4 pistons and sounded like a Subaru. And the blend door actuator that clicks is sooo annoying.
❤️
I bought that scan tool after seeing it in this video, it's just the thing I need due to my wife's obsession with government motors crap 🤣🤣🤣
How did you initially know that you weren't on the exhaust stroke?
Hi Eric, please, where is your shop?
This seems familiar to me .... almost like I just fixed this same problem on a hyundai.
Where in houston are you?? Near Humble/Spring
Cylinder no.2 is misfiring on y cavalier.. new coil pack , icm ,plugs and fuel injectors.. still missing 😕
hows it go/
What bi directional function does it have for an 04 buick lesabre

👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🌷
-Bent valve on cyl#2 -Low compression on #3 -I'm guessing it jumped time due to that engine's propensity to chew up timing chains and guides.......
