This is THE only way to do this job. Took me 10 minutes to do the driver side spark plugs with no issues.
WHY aren't the sparkplugs on top. Who the hell put them in such a horrible location?! Phenomenal video. LIFESAVER!

Thank you for this information I have a 96 Blazer & watched a different video on how to get to that center plug on the driver side , your way makes a lot more sense the other guy broke the plug to get it out LOL Thanks again & keep making videos !
Thanks for the video. I am not mechanically inclined but i do like to do the maintenance on my vehicles and youtube has been my mentor for automotive maintenance. The steering column was my issue last time and i payed somebody else to do that but this time i think i would rather save a few bucks and do it myself. I believe i will tune into your channel as you get right to the point of the issue. All the other KZread videos seems like guys want to spend more time talking than anything. Again thank you.
Great vid. Any touch of humility is greatly welcome. Thanks man

Thanks bro, I had more than two years without changing that spark plug :)
Thanks for the video. A buddy of mine that usually works on my vehicles tried explaining to me about removing this bolt but I had no idea where to find it...I thought it was under the orange rubber boot. lol I was actually able to get the old spark plug out using a swivel adapter but it was impossible to get the new one in with this stupid thing in the way. Now I'm gonna see if I can get this project done tonight because I have to use the Blazer to deliver mail in the morning
Great informative upload. Your knowledge and experience is very much appreciated. Keep informing the people...
I love your videos I've watched several before I go do my job and I'm pretty well experienced but on this one there's no need to take any of that steering shaft stuff apart. Spark plug sockets got a hex on the the spark plug socket for these scenarios. Can you use a shorty box and on sockets hex. I didn't have a 19 mm or 3/4 shorty so I just cut one of my cheap tools to fit. It saved the entire removal of the airbox removal of the cover from the steering gear on bolting it removing the shaft put in the shaft back in and all that r&r. Please again I have the most respect for your videos, i just thoughf i could give you back some of the time you've saved me this little one timer! ✌️
Thank you for this video, saved me a trip to the mechanic shop!!

wish I had seen this first. Tried the long extension & swivel, also 5/8 deep swivel, left a blood trail to the tool cabinet for several other ideas. Finally jacked up the engine just enough to get #3 out. Your way is better.

Take the three bolts out, that hold the steering shaft on the driver's side. Pry the steering shaft up just a little and the spark plug comes right out with a swivel extension. Easier than taking apart the shaft.

I had to replace my distributor cap, so I figured I'd go ahead and replace plugs and wires at the same time. First I found the shop that last tuned it up put the wrong plugs in. Gas milage went up 25%. even with 1 old plug still in the motor. Not for long now. Thanks.

@@simonos777t My 2003 GMC Sonoma 4.3 l had P0300… it was a faulty, brand new, distributor cap. I used a multimeter to test for continuity between the points. Yup! My truck was out of commission for a year! I’m now on my fourth distributor cap and rotor :/ I was having a hard cold start (with crank) took the dizzy off. One screw backed out the other was so corroded and even after using PB Blaster a few times, letting it penetrate the screw sheered off :/ I had to remove the whole assembly and drill it out. At least I didn’t have to mess with taking all of the plugs out, including that damn # 3 and hand crank to find TDC. I wasn’t moving anything so I just marked the where rotor pointer was at, lifted until it turned counter clockwise 42 degrees, marked that spot. Reverse process and it drops right in.
Thanks for the video, the job was easier.
How did you put the steering column back on
I have never had to tear all that stuff off to replace my spark plugs and I have big hands 🙌
But I did get to that one spark plug that none has ever changed so ty for that

It is possible to do it without removing the steering shaft but you must be well versed in profanity and be ready to lose some skin. You way is a very nice alternative. Thanks for the video.
Can removing the bolt on the steering column throw off my alignment at all?
@ERICSDIYGARAGE
Жыл бұрын
Yes if you move your steering wheel why you do this
What about the other side with the whatchamacallit (with the suspension)

I watched your video on replacing rear shock absorbers. I have a 1999 Blazer. The 2 bolts that hold the top of the shock are just spinning. After further investigation, not only are the bolts spinning, but the frame in that area is completely rusted through. Are you aware of any type of fix for this portion of the frame??
@ERICSDIYGARAGE

You will probably need to cut the rust out and weld a new metal support
A 5/8 deep socket universal works wonders as well. No need to remove any steering components. Great vid 👍

👍🏻
I done this now I can't get the bolt back in the steering column.
Just tap the steering column back on the shaft with a hammer.

Or you can use a really long extension with a swivel plug socket 😂

@aarondelacio2857

@@kellybaye9794 I was able to get to mine no problem sorry you wasn’t able to. I used like three full size extension and a swivel socket just to be able to get to it and even then I was hardly able to. It’s a tough spot all your tools need to be a conform together to a certain size to where it doesn’t obstruct steering. I changed all my plugs in 15 minutes
Which is NUMBER 3.
There’s a video with a guy taking out that plug with relative ease with a swivel!
Which number?
Why is so hard to change the spark plugs they should just be on the top
That's a lot of extra work for no gain. As long as you turn the wheel so the flat side of the shaft is down you have plenty of room to get to the #3 plug.
Thank you for sharing! I totally my hand up trying without doing this!

4 spark plugs? My car keeps wanting to die while it's idle. I'm hopping this would do the trick.
Old guy hack TURN the wheel the couplink is OVAL so by turn the wheel to the flat side no need to remove the boot
Lol just slide down the orange sleve buddy ..it's that simple lol
Clyinder #3 can bite me really hard
im sure youre way works fine but dont forget a spark plug socket has a 3/4 hex head on the end. I in my experience have done many and had an extra 5/8 spark plug socket. I basically cut 1/3 of the socket off and use a 3/4 or 19mm wrench instead of a ratchet to wrench the spark plug out. wish i had a video to show but it saves time without messing with the steering
