How long are the two bolts that hold the bezel where can 8 find them

did you cut that high part of the painted face in the middle flat ? mine has a high point in the middle making it seem impossible to take out the old handle

No I didn't cut anything your best bet is to not buy something off Amazon and just go straight to GM or a dealer that gets you a real part because I've had so much bad luck with shitty handles that I had to redo it like three times until I actually bought a factory part

What do you do if the tailgate won't lock? The key is also hard to turn.

I've sprayed wd 40 into the lock mechanism with good results

Could also be that the metal tab attached to the lock cylinder is bent. Be surge it’s in the correct position, otherwise it will not function properly.

Idk bro mine still doesn't work .. great video tho .. my handle just moves up and down. And nothing happens..lol ..I guess I need a whole new tailgate 🤷🏾‍♂️

Lol did you connect the 2 clips to the rods? You might have to pull the rods tight then connect them.

I just searched 02 avalanche tail gate handle on Amazon and bought the one with the best reviews

The handle opening has been cut...you will need to cut a piece off before you can take mechanism out..

Not true. The plastic tab helps prevent crud from getting into the handle mechanism. It is a bit of a pain, but you can change out the handle assembly and not cut the plastic.

What size was the torx bit

Tell the people they need to cut a piece a fiber glass to have more room, I did it I may 2005 Avalanche, is the only way to remove the old lock and to put the new one. Dile a la gente que hay que cortar un pedazo de fibra de vidrio(porque no es lámina), es la única manera de poder sacar la cerradura que no trabaja y también para lograr instalar la nueva.

If you can lift the handle there is 2 rods one left and one right. You have to pull those to the center using like needle nose pliers or something. Then it should pop open
