    Very well explained video for people like me. I’m capable of doing a lot but half of these videos they don’t show you from the exact start. Or they don’t explain themselves they use words like “this thingy” or “remove this and this then boom you’re done”. Thank you for this!

    I just did this on a 4 wheel drive, i was able to lift the engine enough that I could drop the pan an inch or 2 and was able to just get the sump tube bolt back in without dropping the differential. If you could modify it to make the bolt fit the other side it would make this job easier. Placing a rag in the pan saves you needing a magnet to retrieve it since its so awkward, and it helps to have long skinny fingers.😊 Let the silicone dry for 24 hours helps keep leaks to a minimum upon completion. Thanks for sharing.

    That o-ring on the oil pick up tube that you said looked really messed up will cause an internal oil leak and cause funky things on your oil gauge. It’s likely that’s all you needed to replace by simply dropping the oil pan. Don’t look like there was a need to disassemble the front at all lol DOH!

    Make sure to check your oil pressure sending unit first. You can test your oil pressure and if it’s above spec you’ll know it’s the sensor and not the pump. At 1000 Rpm minimum is 9 psi at 4000 rpm it should be minimum 24 psi

  • @BrokenRRT

    @BrokenRRT

    Keep in mind if it’s a 5.3 they are notorious for the pick up tube o-ring going bad. They crack at some point. Not if but when. You only need to drop pan to replace it. On another note. If you’ve run any type of engine cleaner other than injector cleaner you may of created sludge in the pan. Such as if you used seafoam in the oil vs the fuel additive it will clean your engine so well that you will have sludge built up in the pan and decreased oil pressure. You will need to drop pan to clean it not just drain the oil.

  • @KRTube75

    @KRTube75

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@typicallycool5885 That's the bare minimum but not ideal. 40 psi at idle is desired. Mine was 40 psi at idle always then something happened around 250K miles and it was barely 20 psi. Turned out the oil pickup o-ring was cracked and had 1/8" gap. Remove the old one and it was brittle and broke into several pieces. Installed a new o-ring and it's back up to 40 psi at idle. The vehicle has 326K miles on it.

  • @KRTube75

    @KRTube75

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@BrokenRRT You can get the sludge out through the drain hole. All the sludge will collect in the sump which is angled toward the hole. Just squirt several ounces of mineral spirits in the hole, install the bolt and let soak. Remove and let drain. The mineral spirits will dilute the "sludge" and it will flow out. Repeat until clean. If it makes you feel better, you can use a bore cleaning tool to loosen up every last bit of it.

    I may have to replace the timing chain cover due to an oil leak and I have issues with oil pressure (already replaced the sensor). I've heard conflicting things that oil pumps never fail (mine's at 180K miles) so don't waste the money to as long as I'm in there spend the $150 for a good oil pump and have peace of mind. What's your thoughts? It is the 5.3L Denali package so if I have to drop this and remove that then that may be my answer.

    yes .. you can prime it while its still outside the truck .. and even when turning on the truck .. dont "start" it right away .. just kinda like let the starter turn the engine like once or 2 .. just so it can get primed

    Its called the pickup tube,not a screen. And if it was a 4x4,you have to either raise the motor or drop the front diff and in most cases lower the rack,because of a metal line that is about a quarter inch below the pan. It actully hits the pan more than the diff. I just pulled a pan today on a 09 and i could have just lowered the diff instead of removing it,if i could have seen that line on the rack first. . But i think if you just lower the diff and the rack, you can pull the pan. The diff will only lower about an inch because it hits on that part of frame that the center cross beam,(that you have to remove) attaches to. Some older models,are different where you wont have a problem with that metal line.

  • @mattcrook4978

    @mattcrook4978

    I've done it 3x now and still only ever dropped the dif a couple inches. That line has a 10mm bolt holding it up. Get that 10mm off and slide the pan down and back. Replace pan gasket and clean out sludge while you at it to save future headache

  • @mattcrook4978

    @mattcrook4978

    Disregard what I said about the 10mm, I misread that. I remember that line from my 07 and 08 trucks. Dropping the front diff takes more time than disconnecting those lines

    Any way of knowing if it’s the pump or just the o ring? I had a slight loss in pressure a few weeks ago. Then yesterday it went to 0. Reving it would maybe get it to 5-10, but i didn’t rev it much. Wouod Pump failure still give you pressure while reving? I have the pan off and the tube off. Hoping i’m not doing this for nothing. I want to clean out the pump a bit too.

    Falcon's Garage i replaced the o ring and pan gasket. Still is at 0. I did a primed start without the spark plugs for a few seconds and then started it up. Then plugged them back in for a real start. Zero. I have a 4wd so i have to drop a lot of stuff underneath to get it to fit. I took off my sway bar. Next weekend. I think something is gunking it up. Probably not a complete failure, but partial. I should maybe pick up my head gasket and look at the lifters. Ive had a check engine light going on and off for quite a while now. I have a cat that’s plugged and putting back pressure on the engine. Not a good thing. I got a stabiltrak warning every few days and a very poorly running motor but it’s intermittent and will shut off for a while. Lotta issues.

    As the engine ages, the tolerances are not as good as they once were. Oil pressure gets reduced in the motor. First do a flush with a cleaner and maybe a little ATF 1 quart drain and refill with a wix or equivalent oil filter. Next try the O ring in the pickup tube. That could be damaged... more likely is if about 10 yrs old. Finally, all else fails, get a Melling high volume oil pump. Those come witj springs to increase pressure too. Remember to center the pump with shims and prime the pump when installing. That doesn't work, check for lifter issues or possible rod bearings going out. Replace those or save up for a new or rebuilt motor.
