Chevrolet Silverado on/off-road review (inc. 0-100) 2022

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I'm a closet fan of big American trucks! So I jumped at the chance to get behind the wheel of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado (keep in mind the US will get a new version of this car in 2022, we won't get it in Australia until 2023). Let me know what you think!

I don’t really understand lots of the people blowing up about pricing. Yes it’s expensive but you are paying for conversion and no one is forcing you to buy it. Would also like to mention that so many people have brand new Ford raptors which are 90-95k, hilux ruggeds and rogues which are 85-90k, and then everyone lifts these up and chucks ATs / muddies and rims which ends up costing 5-10k in add ons. The 70s series GXL which are 140k+, land cruisers and patrol Ti-L which are all over 100k also. You can just buy this, have much more power, bigger interior, not some squished back seat and the thing is bigger in every way and faster.

Agree that the top spec thai built dualcabs are a poor value proposition but that doesn't actually make Silverados/Rams etc any better either. Does anyone know if we get Mexican or Seppo built pick ups? Either way, you can't really compare these poorly built trucks to a quality Japanese made 70 series, designed for Australian conditions. You wouldn't even think about going remote or doing any serious offroading in anything GM or Chrysler.

I do own one . I love it !!!! When you do 0-100 km/h engage awd system it will go around 6 seconds mark. Consumption on highway is around 10 l/ 100 , around suburbs does 15 l on average , pretty good for the size of the engine and truck. I had a diesel ranger before and it was around 13 l/ 100 . You do need to use 95 octane petrol or higher. Don’t mind the all safety future’s missing as I m not gone use them anyway. Price is around 125000 Aud drive away for Trailboss and around 140000 Aud for LTZ spec . Beautiful truck all around!!!!

Holy crap. I had no clue they sold any of these things in the AU. I accidentally stumbled upon this thinking it was a US review. Converting 125000 AU dollars to US dollars still makes this close to a $100k truck. They are around $60,000 US here. So you guys are paying a lot for these things. And I would wonder if you can even get the "work truck" versions of these, which are more like $30k. I guess maybe its because there's zillions of the things here and they are probably rare as hen's teeth in AU

As others have suggested, this is a genuine 4x4, but you MUST select either 4H or 4L to lock the transfer case (centre diff lock) into 50% drive fore and aft. Shame you didn't do a 4wd surface test in a 4wd mode. Auto is not dedicated drive to all axles, it's proportional thru a open centre diff, good for loose surface on formed roads/tracks only. As for the light in the mirror, is that not just a clearance light for incoming vehicles at night, a requirement by law for vehicles over a particular width, a category this vehicle would have to comply with. For all that say too expensive, compared to 79 series Cruiser, it is actually cheaper, far superior ride, better fitout, and compliant to drive tow with etc. Yes there will be a majority of people say they'd chose a cruiser anyway over this, all I can say, their loss. The 70 Series are farm trucks, designed as such, these US trucks are comfortable tourers/tow vehicles, class leaders in this category. Aussies need to get used to this type of vehicles becoming more dominate on our roads as more cashed up tourists take to vanning it in Oz opposed to international touring. Looking forward to the day these things hit the second hand market in mass numbers lowering the price for more humble desiree's like me.

Most people going for a diesel pickup in the US and Canada will go HD and the EPA makes it difficult to get diesels in vehicles with a GVWR of 8,500 lbs or less through emissions.

Well done mate, i have to admit that i didn't watch the review but just wanted to comment anyways. It's simple because we don't get such bukkies in South Africa, things like this Chev , those big Toyota trucks like the Tandra and the Takuma(not sure of the spelling), the Ford F series and the Maveric. I think the all new Ranger will be a perfect fit for our market in terms of looks compared to the outgoing model, I'm not complaining by any means it's just something worth pointing out. The Ranger Raptor is exceptional in terms of driving dynamics and handling on and off road, it is quite pricey as expected but not that far off. To be honest, i don't wish that these trucks make it to our shores some days because of obvious reasons such as pricing and size, our roads are not as narrow as those in UK and not as wide as the the ones in the US. 😁😁😁

Hi Paul. Nice review. How is the market for these cars there in Australia? I am assuming that Ausie is the same as South Africa. The ute market in both countries is primarily dominated by Rangers, Hilux and a few others. Just haven't seen any Chevies on our roads a lot. Did you forget to comment on the placement of the antenna on top. It looks like it is misplaced? :-) It is not placed in the middle of the car. Not too sure I can justify the fuel consumption. I’m watching from the UK. We don’t have enough US vehicles here. We also don’t have a rule on requiring RHD conversions so apart from adding amber turn signals and rear fog lights they go straight on the road here in LHD. Slight correction 0-100kmh is actually 0-62mph a few years ago our test changed from 0-60mph to 0-62mph to align with Europe kmh.
