Chevrolet Caprice 1991 Promo
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Chevy Promo VHS video with Bob Sterling. Also it won Motor Trends Domestic Car of the Year for 1991.
Synopsis on the back cover:
With the economics of 1991 it has become more important than ever to shop for value.
Nowhere is this more apparent than when it comes to replacing your current luxury car.
The car you are driving now probably has a few miles on it and the price of a direct replacement is way more than you paid originally or want to pay now.
That is why we made this video, to show you the 1991 Chevrolet Caprice and how it can keep you driving in the comfort and style that you are used to, at a price that you can afford.

Although big cars aren't for *everyone,* I've come to believe that big cars like the Chevrolet Caprice was a car for anyone wanting something made in North America, preferably the USA, that's built for Americans, for *American* needs and wants. That's why I miss the big rear-wheel drive Caprice and Caprice Classic. I remember when this style Caprice was introduced. I liked it immediately. It was still old-school in its drivetrain layout, but its styling was up to date. A long overdue styling change. Even 25 yrs later, it still looks attractive, still looks contemporary. 🙂

I, like most people, detested those wheel spats at the rear but I now appreciate them! This car brought a lot of modern touches to an old school type of car car. A real pity Chevrolet didn't at least build them into the 2000s.

Хороший вкус у вашего племянника. Привет из Росии🇷🇺. У нас в РФ своего автопрома вообще практически нет.
My '93 has the "round" back wheel openings (completely changed the whole look of the car). Mine has 343,xxx miles and burns no oil with the original engine which has never been rebuilt. The most extensive repairs have been a new timing chain and new intake manifold gaskets. Amazing car.
The U.S police force had these cars during the 90`s with a powerful 5,7 litre V8 corvette engine (9C1) then they were replaced with the Ford crown victoria 4,6 litre V8 (P71) Many policemen were sad during the exchange,cause the Caprice was one hell of a car.

If GM had just "face lifted" the B-Body caprice like ford did to the Crown Vic, It would have competed well with the Crown Vic. I don't know why GM had to stop making such a great car, they are just as contemporary as a late 00's Crown Vic in my opinion.
@silicon212
10 жыл бұрын
Harry Super GM shot themselves in the foot. I suppose you could say they were way ahead of their time. They canceled the Caprice and other B body cars because they thought the public wanted Tahoes instead - so that's what they did - the converted the Arlington plant where the Caprice was made into a Tahoe/Yukon plant and killed the Caprice. They thought the departments who bought the Caprice would buy Tahoes - that's now happening but only because Ford killed the 'Vic. The 'Vic is a good car too, not bad in the power department if you get one that's 2004 or newer. My '88 9C1 and my '05 P71 are closely matched power wise. I know the 'Tri-9' Caprice would smash either one.
@harysuper

silicon212 I totally agree! The Vic is a great car, sorry what I said earlier. The Caprice though is such a great car! I have a Roadmaster Estate, and ironically my family has an 01 and an 02 Tahoe. But had GM continued the B-Body, i bet it would have beat the crownvic in terms of sails. And My folks would still have their Tahoe's because they originally were made in Michigan.
@silicon212

Harrison S Yes, the only time Ford was able to outsell the Caprice to LE was when the Caprice was dropped. When available, the Caprice outsold the Vic by good margins. If the Caprice had continued production, that outlook would not have changed.
@PistonAvatarGuy

The Caprice was a pile of junk, that's why police forces stopped buying them. My local PD got rid of their Caprices years before they had planned to because it was cheaper to buy Crown Vics than it was to keep repairing the Caprices.

its a nice car. i love it. i have a white on and its 30 years old now and runs great.
No car promotions today will call you fat, but Chevy wasn't afraid to point it out in 1991. Good for them!
This car is so beautiful.. One day I'l have it in my garage, along with a 1990 Camaro Iroc-Z and a 1985 Ford Bronco.
Pathos, drink-spilling grand-children, confusion about new technology, soothing elevator music... they did a really good job aiming this commercial at the retired American! I can totally imagine a retired Hank Hill driving this car :D

The reason they no longer make the large cars people want to buy is because the government stupidly allowed only SUVs to burn a decent amount of gas. So goodbye large cars.
Great review ! I still preferred the old Box Chevrolets which I grew up with and own today ( 2023 ) . The 1993 Caprice styling was more appealing than the 91/92 Caprice and the performance would dance circles around the Box Chevrolets .
I STILL remember the first time I ever sat in one!!!! It was at Tom Chevrolet on Route 1 (The Automile) in Norwood, MA on Saturday, March 24, 1990 (also the day that the last episode of ALF aired). That was also my first look at the then-new S-10 Blazer 4-door.

Chevrolet needs to start making cars that are distinctive American again, not to try to compete with European or Japanese cars. Full size, body on frame rwd and V8! Bring back the good real cars that lasts and are roomy and comfortable! I Daily my 91 Caprice in Finland and I love it in every way!
Just the way the scenery looked and how the caprices were in pristine shape on this video and the music makes me go in a daze just thinking back when I was 8 yrs old sitting in the back seat of my aunts husband 87-90 box caprice brougham two tone light grey and black color he use to take me and my mom to the super market I remember sitting on those grey suede plush seats I'll never forget that
I bought a 96 with the LT1 350. It had every option except leather. I loved it. Smooth ride, great in winter with posi and high ground clearance. The weak link was the interior, cheap looking Tupperware dash and door panels and lots of squeaks and rattles from those cheap bits. But otherwise it was great! Kept it 4 years and its still on the road, my friend bought it and still enjoys it. The only mechanical glitch in 94-96 was that the LT1 liked eating water pumps.
Our family bought a Classic exactly the same as the blue one featured in this video brand new. I ran it for 265k until we sold it. Let me tell you all the items that had to be replaced: Power brake booster, alternator, battery. A few pairs of brake rotors. End links, shocks. Das it. It was still running but had leaky valve seals (a common issue with high mileage). It had plenty of life - big reason was the engine saw 4000 rpm maybe 12 times in its life :) GM perfected the rear wheel drive family car with this one.
my grandfather owned a CAPRICE, 1991. man, it was b e autifull. and DAMN, it would fly.

hey harryrez, you're not the only one, I like the 91-92 style better compared to the 93-96 style too, the wheel skirt adds more class to the bubble style I think, I wish they put the skirts on the 77-90 models like they did with the Pontiac Bonnevilles cause I've got a 89 Caprice and I think it would look better with it.
nice white walls and fender skirts, in 1991! I think it was a better car than the Crown Victoria.
I have an 86 but i really like the bubble body, especially the 91-92's i know im in the minority
When this Caprice first came out, I thought it was butt ugly. But now, I want one, especially with the 5.7 liter engine.
Had a 92 Caprice I think these have more personality than a row over civics or n Toyota's . I'll take the caprice any day good on gas. cheap to fix every one can work on will outlast ant new car of today mine lasted to 364000 miles still runs today sold it for 300..00 had for 10 years Maybe ugly but these were bullet proof hence that's why the police agency uses them. Get 30 mpg on highway and 21 in city on a 5.0l v-8 A crappy PT Cruiser only gets a combined mileage of 21. Bring the Caprice Back I would give this car 10 stars.

Good job
Why can't they continue to build cars like this? :(
I'll never forget when it happened. At the time I was working at a Chevy dealership as a car detailer "I owned a 84 Impala at the time." and I walked in to the owner's office of the dealership and I told him that they were making a big mistake. Yes the re-design wasn't a hit. But, that only means that they could have redesigned it. When the 4 door Tahoe replaced these perhaps it didn't look like a bad bet but, when the great recession hit perhaps it wouldn't have been so bad for GM.
