Chettinad is a region located in the Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is renowned for its distinctive culture, heritage, and cuisine. Here are some key aspects of Chettinad:
1. Chettinad Architecture: Chettinad is famous for its unique architecture characterized by spacious mansions, known as "Chettinad houses" or "Nattukottai Chettiar homes." These mansions are often adorned with intricately carved woodwork and grand courtyards.
2. Culinary Heritage: Chettinad cuisine is celebrated for its aromatic spices and flavors. The cuisine includes a variety of dishes such as Chettinad Chicken Curry, Chettinad Fish Curry, and Chettinad Egg Curry. The use of freshly ground spices gives the food its distinctive taste.

4. Athangudi Tiles: Chettinad is renowned for its handmade Athangudi tiles. These colorful, patterned tiles are crafted using a unique process and are often used to adorn the floors of Chettinad homes.
5. Historical Temples: Chettinad is home to several ancient temples with unique architectural styles. The temples, such as the Athmanathaswamy Temple in Kanadukathan, showcase the rich cultural and religious history of the region.
6. Karaikudi: Karaikudi is a major town in the Chettinad region and serves as a gateway for exploring Chettinad's cultural heritage. It is a bustling town with markets, temples, and Chettinad mansions.
7. Chettinad Arts and Crafts: The region is known for its traditional arts and crafts, including Chettinad woodwork, stone carving, and Chettinad-style Athangudi tiles. These crafts reflect the artistic skills and cultural richness of the Chettinad community.
8. Chettinad Cotton Sarees: Chettinad is famous for its handwoven cotton sarees. These sarees are known for their vibrant colors, distinctive patterns, and intricate borders, making them popular among saree enthusiasts.
9. Cultural Festivals: Chettinad celebrates various cultural festivals and events throughout the year. These events often include traditional music, dance performances, and rituals that showcase the cultural vibrancy of the region.
10. Hospitality and Tourism: Many Chettinad mansions have been converted into heritage hotels, providing visitors with an opportunity to experience the grandeur of Chettinad architecture and hospitality.
Chettinad's rich cultural heritage, architectural marvels, and delectable cuisine make it a fascinating destination for those interested in exploring the cultural tapestry of Tamil Nadu.

Chettinad is big landscape covering 96 villages/ towns. However the coverage is NICE. A Tamil film called “Kandukondain Kandukondain” was filmed in Chettinad area and chettinad houses are shown in the film.
Incredibly nice, am from Mauritius but live in the U.K. and I can tell you that there are Chettiars in Mauritius too. But they don’t have such beautiful mansions, they are just different.

For those who are not aware., The ancestors of today's Chettiars were big businessmen, ocean going , trading with various countries, like Burma, Jawa, Thailand , Vietnam, China and upto Japan. They owned huge ships, huge wealth that they even loaned some to Chola Emperor's in times of war. It is to protect their trade from pirates ,Chola kings of 12th and 13 centuries developed a Navy their own. This is perhaps is the only instance of any our ancient kingdoms had an ocean going Navy. Later on , the Marathas had a coastal Navy ofcourse.
You are looking awesome in the half saree (Tamil tradition). Even the pronunciation of Tamil words is very accurate.
Did not know kabadi came from Tamilnadu. Good and pleasant video about chettinad.

Loved the presentation. Excellent content was delivered with great enthusiasm and energy by a very articulate presenter in her very own charismatic style. Look forward to future episodes. We passed through the area and wanted to visit those famous Chettinad houses but entry to these places is so secretive and restricted as they are still owned by those private owners who don't want to publicize too much. Probably getting those houses on heritage listings and allowing guided tours would give a big boost to the area. Watching this vlog was almost like being there again.
