@@wallacecleaver4485 it’s documented that he only had access to methadone and alcohol while in Japan. The country has some of the strictest drug laws of any, especially so in the 80’s. Paul McCartney was jailed for 9 days after smuggling half a pound of pot into Japan, and if he hadn’t been a celebrity, could have faced 7 years of forced labor. Chet is the kind of guy most people brush off early as musicians, but somehow if you come back for a second round, you realize that there's so much more under the surface, and you get mesmerized, carried away. RIP Mr Baker, you will always be an inspiration.

One of the best trumpet improvisation of all times, and I heard A LOT. Musical inspiration is out of this world, listen carefully to the choice of notes, how he smoothly tights the whole harmonic development together while at the same time playing only fresh ideas in a perfect construction - and of course as everyone else said, with such a deep and moving feeling... unreal performance here !

This is the jazz I love. I love all kinds of music but I find that by reading the comments for jazz videos that the genres music fans are tthe fans that really know what to listen for in music. They understand that music is conversation, feel and technical prowess all harnessed into a musical canvas that, once created, may never be duplicated. This version makes me feel emotional. Baker seems like a very poignant and sensitive person. Looking at his face while he plays I can see the ravages of time and experience. He really gets to the heart of this song. I love listening to his soothing voice and playing in the wee hours when I am studying and all is quiet. And his fellow musicians too, they are a great ensemble. Love you Chet Baker.

Pure bliss. The audience was blessed to see such a performance. When I hear this song , this performance... the emotion is so raw , so real , so amazing , so powerfull, damn I wish I was there. Love this performance . his age increases the songs meaning like a fine wine. the sincerity he plays with. This is no b.s. this man has lived it at this point. My dad & Mr Baker hung out together when he came to Pittsburgh he came over to our house all the time for a spaghetti dinner its cool that i broke bread with this man but even more amazing Chet said my dad was one of the best horn players he ever met and was one of the only men he respected in the music industry

Pure bliss. The audience was blessed to see such a performance. When I hear this song , this performance... the emotion is so raw , so real , so amazing , so powerfull, damn I wish I was there. Love this performance . his age increases the songs meaning like a fine wine. the sincerity he plays with. This is no b.s. this man has lived it at this point. He plays with experience and knowing and when I listen to this it brings me to tears that something can sound so good , so real.

I don't know why, but I only cried when I looked at and listened to this video. Chet defintely was the boss of bosses, a kind of messiah!!! For sure we will never see and hear in our lives a more gifted talent than he was...

My dad & Mr Baker hung out together when he came to Pittsburgh he came over to our house all the time for a spaghetti dinner its cool that i broke bread with this man but even more amazing Chet said my dad was one of the best horn players he ever met and was one of the only men he respected in the music industry
True master artist with a lifetime of scars and experience coming out of that horn !
