    Man i wished i had seen this video before ordering all my filtration and sanitation supplies! Dont get me wrong my stuff is working good but for the money i spent this would have been a more efficient way espesially with the vacuum. I followed Joe Lewis video on setting up my cold plunge to a T and its working great! But it has a few extra parts in the cold plunge plus the pump does not move near as much as your pump set up! I plan to purchase your set up when mine starts to fail! Thanks for the video

    Hey Lars, I’ve got a roughly 1200gph pump as well but it goes through pvc clear tubing straight into a 20 micron water filter and housing. Is a Y bypass absolutely necessary to reduce the flow through the filter media? I’m worried the pump might be too strong for the filter. I’d prefer not to mess around with it as I’ve already got it setup and I’m not super handy, flexible pvc tubing is easier to work with

    I wouldn't say the bypass is necessary for the filter media. But to run a proper ozone injection via venturi, the bypass is necessary.

    You can get the vacuum attachment here: apex86.square.site/product/danner-spa-vac/16?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=2 It's a calculated risk for sure. There are devices you can buy, like Shock Alert, for testing the water. For me, with the pump running through two GFCI breakers and having an epoxy filled motor, and 1 hand in the water, it's a risk I am comfortable with. I also disconnect to plunge though.

Somewhat dumb question incoming… The Danner pump I ordered showed up today, and the power cord comes out of the bottom in the orientation you’ve got yours set up, so it can’t just sit upright without sitting on the cord and wobbling. Is yours not the same situation? If so, did you rig something up for that too? I’m wondering if I ended up with a different model of the Danner 1200 and what might be the best way to brace it given I know some products can be degraded by the ozone. Thanks!

    You really need a proper venturi if you want to inject ozone into the flow. Otherwise, it tends to push water into the ozone tube. Also, keeping ozone out of the filter will probably increase its life. I'm not entirely sure that the housing modification is necessary. It was dumb not to retest everything with a filter element installed. It could really change the results.

    I can't see a good reason not to use the venturi, even if your ozone generator has an air pump. The venturi will continuously inject tiny air bubbles, which will oxygenate the water, keeping it more fresh and suppressing microbial growth. Plus, you will get more effective ozone dissolving when you do run it. Pushing all the pump flow to the filter alone has been known to clog up filters too.

    Pumps will cavitate with too much restriction on the inlet side. They do much better pushing against a restriction. Plus, there would be no good way to route the ozone. I now make a slip on prefilter for the pump though, to help catch hair and fuzz that could wrap around the impeller: apex86.square.site/product/danner-pump-high-flow-pre-filter/17?cp=true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=2

  • @APEX.86

    @APEX.86

    11 ай бұрын

    It is because pumps like this are designed to push against a restriction, not pull through one. The pumping efficiency drops significantly when there is low pressure at the inlet. It can also cause cavitation, which can damage the pump. Also, to run a venturi, you still need a parallel path on the outlet side, with a restriction to drive flow through the venturi. So, the whole design falls apart trying to run the filter before the pump. These are pond pumps, so they are designed to be able to easily pass small debris. The biggest issue we have in our application, is that hair can get wrapped around the impeller. I guess I am due to make a new video, because for a while I have been using a high flow pre-filter design: apex86.square.site/product/danner-pump-high-flow-pre-filter/17 This pre-filter is very free flowing to avoid the problems I mentioned above, but super effective at catching hair and fuzz, keeping it out of the impeller and extending the life of the main filter. You just lift the pre-filter off and wipe it clean before each plunge.

    The gasket has plenty of flex to get over the cords. But, if you look in my video you'll see they run through a custom part that holds them in place and makes sure there isn't a gap in the seal. My freezer has a pinch point on the angled part of the rim. So, I had to use a heated socket to melt a divot in this surface so the ozone tube doesn't get pinched off.

If you don’t have time to address them no worries, just curious as I’ve seen Venturi tubes made for herb gardening but it was much more elaborate to create a turbulent effect and I’m not seeing much so I’m assuming toward the end of the pipe or cap you’ve drilled a hole to allow the ozone to be introduced to the water. @APEX.86 Hey Lars! I appreciate all your R&D efforts, and thanks for selling your solutions! I have 2 questions for you: 1) Do you suspect any negative consequences to pulling oxygen through an ozone generator that is off? Is it just an open system that allows air to pass through while the O3 pump is off? Since it's pulling through the system, is it drawing on some of the components in the O3, providing the venturi something other than just oxygen? 2) With your outlet from the pump split, do you have a sense of how much is flowing through the filter vs the venturi? Thanks for your help! I've been using your Marineland attachments, but it's time for me to upgrade to the Danner.

  • @APEX.86

    There should be no issues at all. It's really just like pulling through a spa style ozone generator, just additionally sucking through the air pump. When ozone is not powered you are just pulling air through the system. I'm not sure the exact proportions, and it changes as the filter loads up. The majority is flowing through the filter though.
