I have to be honest, I am moving more toward Kramnik these days (although obviously a much much lower level) I'll play something unusual that I have been trying to learn from a course and within seconds the perfect reply comes back. People don't need to cheat on every move, using an engine once or twice in a game is enough to shift the balance. The problem is also once you have the idea in your head that your opponent might be getting some help, that is enough to totally throw you off. It pains me to be so cynical because I really like the people who play chess, whether they are 800 elo, or 2800 if you've sat down and spent some time on this wonderful game, you deserve to be able to enjoy it.

Yes agree. Having an engine used against you damages your learning too. Because you can't learn the strategies to beat a human player. They just don't work.

It sucks playing against these cheaters. Even in 5 minute games I encounter them every so often but there are much more of them in the longer time limits. One tell tale sign is that they don't move immediately for obvious re-captures etc.

looked at his account. Extremely suspicious strength and accuracy overall. How does someone who has 4 losses and 3 wins at blitz(at 1700...dropping to 1500s)...amass an average of 90-95% accuracy over 125 rapid games...winning 80% of them? Newer account. Very suspicious

Good to see you putting up more vids again. Enjoying them immensely, so keep 'em coming! Being a long-time (but poor) Dutch player, I've learned heaps from you and might even be improving a wee bit despite my aged brain. I thought Qb6 was a fairly standard idea of just interfering with your developing your Queen's Bishop by threating your b pawn (but who cares about pawns?), so while it was the top computer choice it seemed to me like he might have found it even if for the wrong reason. But, looking at the comments below it appears your suspicions were correct, and his account has been closed for cheating. A shame, as this line can lead to such fun and interesting games when played by actual chess players, as you've shown before.

Except Simon instantly knew it wasn't a very human move and was ultimately proved right. I guess your instincts become pretty well honed after 30 years playing top-level tournament chess... That's the thing about computer moves. They often appear 'normal' after the fact.

@@danjeory3659 Yes, I should have said, Simon's recognition reflects his far higher experience and understanding. I didn't even consider the move as worth remarking upon until Simon says his alarm bells started ringing and said "why would you play Qb6?", which is what made me think the above. I didn't mean to suggest he was wrong (as it has been shown he wasn't after all), only was offering a possible reason why someone might stumble upon that particular move. And most likely, if someone made the choice for the reason I suggested, there would be flaws in that plan that Simon would have eventually exploited.

It's certainly suspicious, especially coming from a new account. 89% accuracy means nothing on its own. I sometimes even get those sort of scores and higher in my own games, and I'm rubbish, but this was a very sharp and challenging game against a grandmaster. It's one thing getting high accuracy when playing familiar lines against similarly low rated opponents, or even not very sharp lines, but in a game like that one it would be very difficult to get high accuracy. Just a correction though - that a5 move you mentioned, the computer gave it a tick, which only means means a good move, not the best. *Edit - I've just checked the account and my opinion is that he is 100% definitely a cheater.*

Although I'm as disgusted with all the unfounded accusations made by Kramnik as anyone, cheating is a big problem. It stopped me from playing Daily chess because once you reach a certain rating (around 1800) you're meeting cheaters all the time and when you're putting as much time and effort into each move as I did, life becomes too short to waste on trying to beat engines. Luckily I'm nowhere near that rating in rapid, so I don't encounter them that often, and when I do it's of little consequence. In this instance though check the account and I think you will see that Simon has a point.

@lukeedward9748 they are not the only factors GingerGM considers... it's the cumulative evidence including things like the timing of the moves and the degree to which they are non-human... he will understand the difference between how computers and humans play better than anyone in the comments here. In my opinion, he was quite gracious in giving the benefit of the doubt. Let's see whether this opp's account gets closed down.
