Chess Openings- The King's Gambit

The King's Gambit is a sharp attack against the king side of black. White gives up a pawn to start the game in exchange for a lead in development. Black has to be very careful as one wrong move and white's aggressive game can quickly win the game.

    Yeah my fav opening as well. d7-d6 is Fischers defense. It is definitely a little harder for white but usually you can develop as normal with moves like d2-d4 and Nc3 and Bc4 and white should still be fine. I personally like having the semi open F-File for my rook. I use this to just apply tons of pressure on the black king.

  • @chesswebsite
    @chesswebsite15 жыл бұрын

    Yeah it does weaken your king side. Black's king side is weakened as well. You can always castle queen side if you like but really the kings gambit is a wild and dynamic opening that usually results in seeing who can checkmate their opponent the fastest. It is not for the faint of heart.

  • @kaytk1762
    @kaytk17625 жыл бұрын

    After Bc4 and Qh4+ why not block with g3? Also, at 6:37 after Bc4+ and d5, why not take with the bishop? If queen recaptures, then Exg5 and the Queen is gone. Same with taking with the pawn since the bishop is defending but I think the Bishop capture is better since it’s check.

    Question: At 2:47, after knight to f3, what if black plays bishop to e7? This applies added pressure to the h4 square, and next turn, black can move his bishop to h4, and if white takes with his knight, black can simply retake with his queen and put white in the same pickle that was discussed earlier.

    +Joey Jergens Ty-Farma Looking at it again, the only move I see for white that can stop the attack is g3, but then after black plays xg3 and white plays xg3, black is more easily able to maintain his advantage in material, and white's king side is weakened. So idk. Still seems like a really strong move for black that should have been discussed in the video.

  • @ne0romantic

    @ne0romantic

    That's the Cunningham Defense. You play Bc4 and if Black goes for the check you respond Kf1. This position is about equal, maybe slightly better for White as Black has wasted moves and brought the Bishop to a bad sqaure just to prevent castling. It's detestably not worth it and the "Modern" Cunningham is Be7 followed by Nf6 with no silly Bishop check. Kf1 is not quite forced; you can play the Bertin Gambit but it's not sound (though it's miles more sound than the garbage line suggested in this video) with g3 followed by o-o and White has a lot of compensation for the pawns... it's a fun line, but in general if you don't like having your King on f1, don't play the King's Gambit.

    Thanks for your illustration of the Kings Gambit opening. I've been playing with this opening ever since I came across it. Before this opening I wasn't a fan of Gambits because attempting to use gambits leaves pieces in scattered should the opponent properly defend against the opening. And regrouping could be very timely. But this gambit has surely been a favorite for me and regrouping has been fairly good and my success rate with the opening has been high.

    If white is going to play the junk line suggested in this video Black wins easily by taking everything and playing Bd6 eg. 1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Nf3 g5 4.h4 g4 5.Ng5 h6 6.Nxf7 Kxf7 7.Qxg4 Nf6(Qf6 is also strong) 8.Qxf4 Bd6 of course White can do better. 5. Ne5 and White is still in the game. The most important tip for either color would be to actually buy a book or if you do take chess advice from youtube to find an account of a titled player or at least a strong player and/or check the analysis yourself. It's amazing how many people seem to be believing this video.

    @Rajneesh Kumar "Hi If @ 7:23 mins... Black Plays Qf6... .. ??..." if Qf6 then d4 looks useful. Qf6 also takes away Black's immediate threat of ..d5 or d6 as the B on c8 is undefended. So if then Black plays Nc6 to defend c8 with the rook then W has e5, Black Q has to move and then W has a lot of options such as Bc4+ or Qxf4+..

    Yeah if re responds with d5 in that situation then you need to just take that piece with exd5. playing d2 to d4 would be a mistake. If black recaptures with his queen you can develop your knight on c3 with tempo, driving the queen away.

    The logic of these opening videos is to understand what your early game options are, how they play out and the best possible counters to your play. If your opponent doesn't respond logically to your move instead of worrying about what you saw in the video think about what you were trying to accomplish with the opening in the first place. Does my opening help me control the middle? Is it trying to set up a certain trap or defense? Is it going to allow me to castle naturally? When you have these goals in mind and your opponent plays sub-optimally it just makes your job easier to accomplish these goals.

    Yeah that's what Fischer used to play. You have a few different options. You can develop Bc4, putting pressure on the f7 square, bring pawn to d4, attacking the f4 pawn or develop knight to c3. I personally play knight to c3.

    I've started to play the king's gambit for fun to improve my attacking skills. My opponents almost always try to chase my knight and make like 7 pawn moves right out of the opening so it's good training for me

    TL;dr, what to do if Black doesn't move up with the second pawn like you describe? Can somebody help me? How does this work out if Black does not move the pawn up to G5 because he/she feels that F4 is not under direct attack? Couple times I tried this, instead of pawn to G5 they pawn to D6. Then moving your corner whitey up won't work because Blacks bishop will move to G4.
