I actually hhnnnggggg'd there for a second before the revelation that it is a checkmate and just needs to be followed through. I thought he shit the bed and the other knight or bishop somehow covered that square already. Baiting a queen attack with a hidden defender on the square gotta be an easy way to win.

100 rated chess, but I accidentally won too many games so it's actually 1000 rated chess now

You should play the Fog of War/Atomic chess combined variant. It gives rise to interesting strategies to try and mitigate the possibility of being nuked out of existence on the third turn lol

I made a variant where it's Fog of War/CrazyHouse/Chess960(x2). It's amazingly fun and much more like a war game. It's called Sun Tzu Chess.

I suppose Scholar's Checkmate is a very serious threat in this game mode. Also: If you start any phrase with "War" it has to end with "War never changes".

You can always play e6 as black and shut that down, while still giving your queen and dark-square bishop immediate vision. Also, I'd imagine bringing your queen out early is extra dangerous in this variant, because the opponent can attack her with a knight without you knowing (e.g. 1. e4 Nf6 2. Qh5 Nxh5).

​@@lmabacus404, I'd imagine it would also be dangerous because you're having to commit to an attack on a pawn square without vision on everything defending it. A knight, queen, or later a rook could be set up to spring on that square in response to a queen, and losing that or even trading queens with an extra bishop loss, is pretty catastrophic for the rest of the game.

@@RoundShades Definitely, and that's even true for this game. We know that the opponent played e4, Nf3, a3, b4 and Nxe5 in the first 6 moves, leaving one move unaccounted for. If that move had been Qe2, then after Simp's Qxf2+ there would be Qxf2 Bxf2+ Kxf2, which loses a bishop.
