There was that time in the late 80s/early 90s when Alexander O'Neal was in a class all by himself. O'Neal had all the ingredients to stand among the great male vocalists of our time such as Marvin Gaye, James Ingram, Peabo Bryson and Teddy Pendergrass. The tall, dark, handsome and well-dressed O'Neal brought it with that husky, soulful growl of a voice. He put out the hits in quick succession, from "Innocent" to "Fake" and from "Criticize" to "Saturday Love" with Cherrelle. Sadly, O'Neal, like way too many great singers, got waylaid by the pipe, a pipe that took him out of the game and threw his career straight down the commode. It is a little hard to fight back tears when watching O'Neal here, especially as we see Cherrelle's deep care for him as she tries to help him through the song. Obviously, the wrong choices O'Neal carefully made and the ravages of the pipe have taken a deep toll on O'Neal. It is like watching Elvis Presley or Whitney Houston toward the end of their road. Despite, no one is past prayer, especially Alexander O'Neal because I know what his music and the memories that came from that music has done for my life. Dig, everyone knows or has someone in their group who is battling the pipe or the Jim Beam. Keep good thoughts for him!

A young teenage hopeful harmonica player that I saw in the mid-eighties had played with the Blues Greats and played on some other famous rock artists albums. He was Excellent and Beautiful! I don't know what happened because he never came accross a get high?? But he took to that pipe and went from beauty to the beast.. Horrible crap... And YES, Alexander WAS absolutely One of the Top tier singing Kats...

But damn, Cherelle is finer than ever!

Cherrelle looks and sounds great, and you can see that she really cares for Alex!!!!

Not sure what you've been listening to here. Yes, super- rocky start but he absolutely's still got it. That voice is not going anywhere. Even with obvious impairment, he sounds better than 99% of the singers out there today.

Alexander O’Neal is a legend who has been through some trials but people need to stop being so critical and saying negative things about him. It’s never good to see someone struggling with something but enjoy the man and his music he’s still standing. He has brought us great music that has stood the test of time. Keep doing ur thang Alex.... I luv me some AO.......God bless him!!!!! A forever fan.

Thank you for this lovely comment. Even in this condition, I heard moments of greatness break through. That powerful tone isn't going anywhere...neither is that instrument, technique -- vocal and phraseological. Can't wait to see what's in store for him with proper intervention.

Don’t care what anyone says…he still sounds good. I’d dance to it again.

These 2 are great Alexander O has been through a lot most singers/entertainers have put their life and careers in danger with cigarettes and drugs but he's hanging in there even though he's out shape and part that comes from aging his voice is still there they are 2 of my favorites from the 80's thumbs up for both of them

And they STILL CAN BRING IT ! The Chorus is one my all time FAVES .....

Yes, she was very gracious toward Alex, keeping him central to the performance even though his own was abysmal.

for some reason..... this is so good. when you see and feel the emotion... but know the original its even better .... just embrace the fact that we werent there and are lucky that we can see it.... god bless the internet.

Cherrelle has developed into a good entertainer. Her voice is different. No longer soft. It definitely gets the job done, though. It's raspy and more versatile. She looks very good, too. Almost 60 years old. Too bad about Alexander O'Neal, though. Attitude and resilience is everything.

Drugs is a terrible thing, in their hey day they were incredible, very, very talented, Alex just looks completely terrible, cherrille known for being small framed fine, are literally shells of themselves, but Year's will do that to you, when they were in their younger years Alexis always denied they were lover's, and at the time Alex was married and had about 6 or 7 kids year's later he had up to 10 kids, but he had the talent at the time to go toe to toe with the best black solo male singers, but one hit of the pipe, and that was it, unfortunately he passed the pipe to cherrille and she liked it too, so sad but at least they are still out there performing and making people happy that's all that counts.
