Guest Carl Palazzalo, staying at Marataba Safari Lodge, managed to capture an extraordinary sequence of events between a male cheetah and a herd of blue wildebeest on the Marataba plains.
While one might assume that an adult wildebeest would be a challenging target for a cheetah, male cheetahs have been observed taking down large prey such as wildebeest. It's a difficult and risky endeavour for a cheetah, yet we witness it fairly often here at Marataba.
While cheetahs are typically known to stalk and chase their prey over short distances, nature can be unpredictable. Opportunistically, cheetahs might adjust their hunting methods. A single mistake by a wildebeest could cost it dearly. However, on this particular day, there were neither winners nor losers, just a few bruised egos.
