R.Balki the director wanted to Recreate Raja's own songs. He felt that those songs have still freshness like 80s..bcoz the Hindi audience never heard them.

@@nagrec, Oui, c’est l’un des arguments forts que l’on peut avancer, (sans trop se tromper) que le réalisateur hindi (d’originaire de Madras) apprécie énormément et à l’évidence, la musique de Maestro tamoul, Ilayaraja, (ce qui explique aussi, leurs nombreuses associations, par la suite). Et qui pourrait dire le contraire ou s’en plaindre, aujourd’hui ? En vérité, il me semble que le choix de ce célèbre musicien dans ce film hindi vienne également, de sa star, en personne, c’est à dire, Amitabh Bachchan, lui-même. On sait que la star hindie adore, raffole aussi, de la musique du compositeur tamoul, depuis toujours ! Ils sont de la même génération, (11 octobre 1942 et 3 juin 1943), ça crée forcément des lien, pour et entre ces deux icônes du cinéma indien ! Pourtant, durant plus de trois décennies, dans l’industrie cinématographique, personne ne pensa à les réunir concrètement sur une affiche. Avec R.Balki, c’est chose faite, enfin ! Avant 2007, le nom d’Ilayaraja ne figurait dans aucun générique de film d’Amitabh Bachchan ! Le problème dans tout ça, au final, on ne sait plus vraiment à qui revient la paternité d’une œuvre. J’estime qu’une œuvre tel qu’un film doit pouvoir se définir par l’originalité (à défaut de sa qualité), de son histoire, de son scénario, de ses dialogues et aussi, de sa bande originale et également par la distribution artistique avec, à sa tête, la star qui porte le tout, à son public et peu importe l’époque de sa sortie ! Sinon, on se retrouve à se chamailler, à théoriser, pour rien…

I am a tamilian and I know Hindi too I see that Baatein Hawa Hain sounds really similar too "Kuzhal Oothum Kannanukku Song " in tamil. Most of the songs sound like old tamil songs and it has come really good in hindi too. Superb !

It was under Director Balki's specific requests this was done by Maestro Ilayaraja. Being an ardent fan of the Maestro Balki wanted those evergreen compositions remade in hindi as the audience/listeners are wide & multifold to be enjoyed and archived. Much more than Ilayaraja's songs which are ofcourse eternal his BGMs in his 1000 odd films and his private Albums like How to Name it, Nothing But Wind, his Symphonies which lifted him to the immortal league alongside Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven are the treasures that India can ill afford to lose. Let Saraswati Devi's abundant blessings shower on the Maestro for the rest & best part of his life.

True.. 36 years life for a song.. All songs are remade.. Yet.. Prestine and pure..

Thats because the great Tamil composer and AR Rahman's mentor, viz., Ilayaraja has composed the music for this movie.. cheeni kam title track is the Hindi version (only the music) of the Tamil song 'Mandram Vanda'..

God gifted Ilayaraja sir.. stay blessed

Awesome music, though almost all the tunes are taken from the Tamil/Telugu popular songs composed by the maestro himself. The title song is taken from the old movie “Mouna Ragam”: Only thing is that instead of the sad song in the original composition, he came out with a peppy tune. Non-veg melody is mesmerising.
