@Evermore brake fluid and transmission fluid make for a kickass nut breaker. Brake fluid is very corrosive, will kill any rust and corrosion, etc.

Had three different alignments from two shops when my tuck was pulling one direction. Being a relatively new driver, I did not think to check the drag linkage. It was just as bad as this one and was at the point where it could have come apart. Our shop mechanic caught while greasing it.

I slip-seat Volvo daycabs daily....that's one of the main things I check at pre-trip....though it would be hard to see the other side simultaneously. That's also a major DOT violation! If you make it that far! Good looking out! 😎👍

A proper pre-trip calls for grabbing that drag link and checking for looseness. I find working the steering shaft like you did, is easier. You're right there when checking the oil. You should also look at the tie rod ends. I found the pitman arm bolt/nut at the splines loose that way one time. Good advice and info, for everyone, and every truck. I see WAY too many "drivers" just jump in and go.

Good info on that steering linkage, but get some PBR and let it set for awhile and fittings will break loose without so much hammering, I know a BFH will loosen or remove anything but follow up on that attachment later use some dye to see if you have feather size fractures or cracks., Mine rolls but it does not have the play but since there is a recall I may as well get it done for free. Again good info on the linkage, its all about safety.

Chase I had an old man 35 years ago. Laugh at me, I was hitting it like you were. Got a BFH and was wearing it out. That old man took a pair of 4 lb shop hammers. One lick and it fell out! He held one hammer on the back, hit the front with the other hammer. Suckers would jump out of there. I have gotten a few like that with a pair of hammers. But the $20. Pickle Fork I bought 25 years ago. priceless for sure. That or get you a chisel point for the air chisel. It will work way better then the cutting end. Also I grab every rod on the front end. Every time I get under anything. Got put out of service around San Frisco . That was in 1995, Told the old man that joint was good. He laughed and told me did not matter. Until it was changed out, I was not leaving the lot. 12 hours later and around $1000. for part and service all. We got back on the road. I took that part back with me. And it was out on a truck the next week. LOL

Hello sir. My dad got a second hand truck from 2018. If he’s going straight he has to steer more times then the old Volvo truck? Could this be the reason that the steeringknuckle have a loose end? Thanks by the way for your video. Greetings from the Netherlands

Just stumbled on this video looking for any solutions. Brand new 2020 volvo vhd tractor, worst steering truck is ever driven in my life! Dealership re aligned it, rears front toe caster everything was out, after alignment it was an improvement but still darts all over the road. Seriously so miserable I hope this truck burst into flames! Not sure if anyone has a solution but just thought I'd vent on how much I hate this truck!

crazy not to have grease fitings, reason not to buy volvo, if this is recalled you could have got the toe adjusted free, because even though this is a new part, the toe will be off by installing a new part, because the toe adjustment is such a fine adjustment.

  • @AlexD-fq5zm

I own a 05 Volvo vnl and can say with certainty it has a Grease fitting on both ends and the one he had has been dry and getting worn out for a while. The Toe will not be off as it is not related to the drag link that he is changing. The drag link he is changing connects to the top of drivers spindle and the tie rod connects to lower back of spindle lift to right
