The Y-Balance test has become the gold standard for balance testing. The motor control screen(MCS) was derived from the YBT in order to create a more efficient way to provide feedback for exercise recommendations. We can use the simple MCS to set a baseline for a person who has potential balance issues no matter what their level of competency. The person will simply push the box forward as far as they can while keeping their heel down. This will give the person and pro valuable feedback and direction on exercise recommendations. It is just as important to go back and recheck the MCS after even one exercise session to ensure you are on the right path. It is also important to recheck at the beginning of their next session to see how much balance ability they retained or loss between sessions. This is a great way to continue to update the program and help educate the client on the importance of daily focused exercise sessions.
