Cheapest Trad Horsebow on Amazon Review

My Review of the Mongolian Asiatic Horsebow from Longbowmaker (Fiberglass)
Had this 50$ eBay / Amazon bow for 6 years.
Alibow also makes this bow, for approximately 60$ as of May 2020. (maybe they are a distributor no idea) Here's link: www.alibaba.com/product-detai...
Top archery/Huntingdoor also makes similar bows for similar price.
After watching Kramer Ammons video I realized that the cheapest bow on Amazon with 50lb draw weight is actually this Chinese bow (50lb@28").
They sell them on eBay as well . The ones sold on Amazon is still cheaper than the KAINOKAI 54. I'd buy it from amazon instead of ebay because more reliable service.
These Hungarian looking fibreglass bows are the AK47 of the bow industry, due to their reliability and price. They are made to look like recurves but are actually straight when unstrung
Various names on ebay/amazon:
Top Archery Traditional Recurve Bow 53'' Archery Hunting Handmade Horse Bow Longbow 30-50 lbs
TOPARCHERY Traditional Recurve Bow 55'' Archery Hungarian Style Longbow Horsebow 30-55 lbs
IRQ Archery
Pigskin Handmade Hunting Traditional Recurve Bow
Mongolian Hungarian Glass Steel Bow
Traditional Han Bow
Alibow also sells them but some vendors from ebay are actually suppliers for Alibow

Thank you for a great explanation of the Asian style bow. I am know 80 years of age and have been shooting traditional bows since I was 10 years old. I have always admired the cultures of the east and specifically the eastern European and the north western China. You have helped tie some of this together for me. I have just ordered one the bows you suggested with a 40 lbs draw. I can draw 55 lbs but prefer to practice with a lighter one.

Hi I hope you enjoy your bow, 🏹 just a little information. Composite recurve bows were also very common in northern Europe and UK way back. There were apparently over 1000 on the battlefield at Hastings. The Romans used them as their bow of choice. I think it was lost in UK due to the success of the longbowmen in later middle-ages. But looking through medieval art the recurve bow was as prevalent as the longbow. Happy shooting

I ordered a 45lb Mongolian horse bow and found out that the draw was actually 55lbs. And I started traditional archery when I was a kid. And was taught the Mediterranean style. Then I had a take-down recurve made custom for me and it was a 60lb bow at 28 in. But when I ordered a Mongolian horse bow and then fired it I fell in love with it. I shoot from the right side and I am right-handed and I made my own thumb release using leather. So have fun shooting your horse bow.

I took a tip from a Mongolian Archer video which shows the Archer putting the arrow a little bit higher on the string then the hand-holding the receiver. When you release the thumb and the arrow goes forth it automatically erases itself and misses Your hand. All you have to do is Mark you're string where the arrow noch should go.

These bows are great. The only problem is arrows. My 350 grain carbon arrows with feathers fishtail wildly out my 55 @ 28 model. I think it needs 500-600 grain arrows with a 45# spine. The arrow has to be more flexible to work around the handle. I like these bows cause they’re cheap, tough and easy to throw in the back of any vehicle.

Do not dry fire these bows! It can damage them(& make the bows dangerous to use) & will nullify your warrenty. All(solid) fibreglass bows may get away with it, but dry firing these puts excessive strain on the joints between the fibreglass limbs & the wooden handles & siyahs(ears, tips). They are very good analogies to the true Asiatic composite bows in performance & better in some ways in that fibreglass doesn't need so much tension to perform, which is why they don't have as much recurve unstrung as true horn, wood, sinew composite bows that can describe a complete circle unstrung. That makes them easier to string than the real composite Asian bows. If we all had $6000 spare we'd all use proper composite bows, butmost have to make do with these & I am a fan of them.

Actually there is from Toparchery and others a single bow style made in China that is up to 50 pounds if you can find it at 50 pounds that is a dual rest bow most are on E-Bay besides the Toparchery that max out at #40-#45 on Amazon, all with removable limbs. There are a few lighter bows like this too with Dual rest but they are more made for those over 9 and under 14-15 due to the weight being from 25-28 with only one dual rest Bear Archery bow that has a dual rest at #35. There is one more style but the bow a flatbow style is not as good nor does bow look good from other style that has the same rest style with removable limbs due to reviews that the square string rest can come apart in beginning of pull with some reviews who bought the garbage version people are selling from wish. The bow is based off a bow style #25 used for some paintball style archery where these odd foam tipped arrows are dipped in paint your color choice and shot at people or shooting the blank foam tipped arrows at blown up targets.

  • @caseysmith544

    @caseysmith544

One note I would Recommended buying a new string for these bows The Toparchery style since they do not use the Dracon B-50/B-55 and use an older Dracon String that will stretch out over time and need more and more twists to keep working at the right pound and at #40 or #45 people have had to when bran new do 10-15 twists to get the bow to the right weight. Most are 40 pounds max but a few rare models on E-Bay are sold at #45 or #50. The Bear Firebird, Get a new string since they made the string that comes with it entierly with the middle and end material on the #30-#35 bow string and in reviews on Amazon the bow string is either well received by new archers or poorly received by new archers thinking they have to 100% use that same type of string when the string fails or was made wrong. Just get a Dracon fiber B-55 or B-50 as the replacement. What they used was some odd string used for some of the very modern fast fps Compound Bows that need the fiber of the bow completely incased to help with wear and durability of the string.

China makes some good products for a low cost, I don’t own this now but I’d like to, I have some chines made knives and a Chinese type 53 rifle both are good the thing is we shouldn’t judge something based on where it was made but by how it preforms when we use the bow or knife or firearm, that being said I think that goes for everything not just what i listed

True. I have a Chinese Tokarev pistol that I bought at a gun show 30 years ago basically as a novelty. That pistol has spent that 30 years proving itself to be as rough, tough, and reliable as an old farm tractor. My brother-in-law has a beretta he has had to rebuild twice in the same amount of time. After literally THOUSANDS of rounds, my Tok shows holster wear and nothing else. I'm starting to think it's immortal.

If you've never done archery before & are an adult, 25-30lb would be a good starting point so that you're concentrating on doing everything right as you learn rather than having to fight to draw & hold the bow. If younger or weaker start even lighter. After 6 months or so regular practice you could go up to 40lbs & increase similarly over time, but the vital thing is to use a bow that is comfortably within your control at all times. That makes shooting a lot safer & avoids strain injuries which can set back your progress weeks or months. Don't let your ego overtake your ability.

a lot of people talk a lot about draw weight and stress starting low. and it's fair and good advice, i just started and i still don't know what i'm doing -- but my first bow was 30lb and it really really quickly started to feel like i wanted more. i bought a 50lb longbow and it was really really hard the first couple days, was hurting my elbow and shoulder. second day it stopped hurting my shoulder and i could focus on form. took a rest day. 3rd day it was easy, 4th day i was hitting my target and when i went back to the 30lb it felt like a joke. so basically i think know yourself, 50 is probably ok for a lot of people. i'm 5 foot 6 and like 120lb, i'm not strong.
