Cheaper and Better? Atomstack X7 Pro Laser Engraver Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Atomstack X7 Pro is a new flagship diode laser cutter and engraver. How does it stack up against the competition from Ortur and xTool? Let's dive into this pretty impressive machine!
Note: I mentioned exact prices in this video, but those tend to fluctuate a good bit, so be sure and check them below. Normally Atomstack is a little bit MORE expensive than Ortur, I switched that a few times in the video.

Mine arrived yesterday and today I had time to install it. I did not manage to get lightburn finding / connecting to my Atomstak X7 on my MacBook Pro (2013, macOS Big Sur). After many tries and adding the cutter manually (choosing GRBL), I tried lightburn again on my pc laptop. This also didn't work initially, until I choose GRBL. Now it works. Anyway, thanks for your review - I checked this video with the hope of seeing how you connected lightburn on your Mac to your X7. :)

Firstly thank you for your videos, you have really helped me make a decision on purchasing my first laser engraver. Starting small with a diode to learn the ropes. In a lot of your videos you run a test setup to showcase the speed/power results. Have you made a video on how you set that up in Light Burn - it seems like a very good place to start to get the best results. Cheers Andy

Hi. I had two questions I was hoping you can help me with. 1) What's the maximum height of the item that can be put in to be engraved? What if the item is 15cm high (like a lectern)? Also, the item is not totally flat. 2) How can I make sure that the product that I want to engrave, the wording comes out straight when I put it in the machine? Is there a guide on the machine to ensure it stays central? Thanks for the amazing review!

A couple questions that I hope you can answer for me. I've been watching several of you videos, Thanks for doing them. Can you cut dry erase foam board with out melting the centre foam, or how bad does it melt or make a mess of it. If it doesn't wreck it, since the foam board is not perfectly flat how big a variance can you have with out having a major issue. I presume it would affect the focus? Just shopping and like the power of this X7 Pro. one last question will you be showing any laser cutter with the auto head adjuster like the one you mention in this video. Thanks in advance

The boards themselves are larger than this workspace, but most times, the engraving would fit in this workspace. would I be able to set this up above a large board? or would the feet of the machine get in the way, or not allow clearance for the machine to operate?

I just bought the X7 pro with extension kit, rotary attachment, extension feet, oversize rollers and pre-purchased the air assist. Basically everything they have for the X7. I've had it for about 2 months and used it a handful of times. It behaved glitchy then it started rebooting 1/3 of the way through any job. It did this running from the computer and from the SD card. Atomstack was pretty cool about replacement of the mainboard. No cost, no shipping fee. The new board should arrive 3/11/22, hopefully that will fix the problem. I'll let you know.

Thank you so much for all the amazing information! For weeks now I have been exhaustively researching laser engravers for my first one. I had pretty much decided on the Atomstack A5 Pro until I saw this video, and so glad I did! The question I have is, can you please clarify the differences, if any, in the Atomstack models X7, A10, and S10? I'm getting conflicting information from sellers. Some say there is no difference in the three except for the color of the unit. Another says "S10 Pro is improved performance in all aspects than X7, also it can engraving material including wood, glass, stainless steel, acrylic, etc. and with faster speed and more better results. This will be a better choice for all engraving and cutting enthusiasts." My head is spinning and I figure if anyone can get to the bottom of this, you can! :) Thank you!!

I would love to hear your advice actually I've been looking at your videos now for quite a while because I am getting more and more interested in buying my own laser cutter. I have a lot of experience with MDF as well as resin printers. Even before I used to go to the city workshop where I operated with their CO2 Laser (HyperCUT 6090 PRO). I can print a lot of things with my printers but still I would love to be able to cut and engrave stuff.. + with wood you get that warmer feeling if you give some sort of gift. I would love to have a machine that is capable of cutting good as well as engraving. Mostly I would cut some sort of stands and smaller chests or boxes for storage or decoration. material wise; Foam, MDF, acrylic and vinyl. So with this cutter it's really, really tempting. Price is fair, even though I was always in love with Co2 lasers and dreaming about getting one because of speed and enclosure and everything else. I also looked at some of your other videos like OM Tech K40 and its bigger 50w brother but with K40 the problem is cut volume and with 50w machines the problem is price. So if you were in my position, which machine would you recommend me getting? Should I save up the money and buy bigger CO2 for like 1500 - 2000€ or should these smaller diode machines work well enough for me? Thank you for your answer!!

You shouldn't cut vinyl with an laser. That releases Chlorine and Hydrochloric Acid vapours. It will destroy your lungs and your machine. Diode machines have problems with not black acrylic, as that wavelength isn't all that good absorbed by the plastic itself and are really slow with wood. Also you really shouldn't cut anything with an laser without air filtering. The pyrolysis products, especially from plastics can be quite nasty.

@@LonelyWolfJ Correct, it's still a no-go on vinyl with a CO2 laser. Note that there are exceptions here specifically in regards to some HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl - think t-shirt design) products from Siser and the like. But check the vendor product page for each specific product page. They'll explicitly list "laser-safe" for those applicable.

Hello. I just got the Atomstack M50. I want to use it on my big cnc router. I can not find any info on the inputs. What do I use to turn it on and off? and so forth. Is it 3V, 5V, or 12V input? What pins? Thanks.

So, I’m getting conflicting info in reviews and even from atomstack about its capabilities regarding metal. In your review you note that it can engrave stainless but that’s it. Atomstack says they can engrave any metal. When asked to differentiate between mark and engrave I got no answer. Can this machine articulately mark or engrave aluminum? Not just black mark. I need gray scale. That’s my project. Thanks!

They updated their claim on their website to 0.06 x 0.06mm although their Amazon store shows both 0.08 x 0.15 and 0.08 x 0.08mm. I talked to their customer service and they confirmed it is 0.06 x 0.06mm. Could you check it with a different material without a grain such as SS?

Hey Brandon, great video and content, I didn't know about this til now. I have a question for you, I recently bought the Atomstack a5 pro and I noticed the x axis where the laser module mounts there is play in it where it rolls on the rail, not sure if I'm describing this right but simply put is the suppose to be play in that? It can rock back and forth but the few tests that I've done it doesn't seem to be rocking, just smoothly rolling on the rail. You're my go to laser guru. Thanks for the help and God bless you and your family and our entire KZread family.

You keep saying "per second" (10:48 for example) but the printing on the board says per minute. I'm sure it is per minute as it would probably shake the engraver right off your bench at those speeds per second.

Correct. The D1 didn't have Lightburn support when he did the pre-release(?) video. But they've added support for it now, and even list that on the features page for the product as of the last time I looked.
