Fascinating review! Just today, I fetched a Bissell “CleanView” model 9595A and a Eureka “PowerSpeed” model NEU188A by the dumpster. I found them yesterday, but put off getting them until this morning, before the the trash person collects the trash today. Both of them are missing all their attachments (not unusual for dumpster finds). I won’t know till tomorrow after they are fully dried out, whether they work or not. I air dried them today. And tomorrow I will plug them into a GFCI outlet. But even if the motors run fine, the Eureka probably only needs a belt, whereas the Bissell needs a belt, a brush roll, a carriage release, and a canister that does not have to be duct taped to the cradle. Therefore I am all but certain to scrap the Bissell at Goodwill. But I’ll probably order a belt for the Eureka and either donate it to Goodwill as a salable item, or keep it.

Thank you for this! I have the Cleanview 9595 (from what I’m seeing online in comparison vs the Cleanview 1831 in this video, the only real differences are that 9595 has a slightly larger dustbin and a washable filter, which the 1831 does not). While I know the filtration isn’t great, it’s awesome to know it’s deep clean power is as good as it is. I’ve been slightly horrified, wondering what’s embedded down there when I have an older, cheaper vacuum. Hoping to upgrade this holiday season to one of the sealed filtration systems!

One thing that I found about these designs is that the Bissell models of this base seem to keep the filter slightly cleaner due to the dual cyclone. It does not matter all that much since most people who buy these types of machines will often replace it once the belt breaks or the filters clog, for example, but I appreciate it since I actually clean the filters of my units. Both EUP (the CleanView's manufacturer) and Midea/Eureka do now seem to produce fairly competently designed units at a very low price, though. Especially compared to the horrid budget machines that Eureka has offered in the past, they do seem to be on the right track. I have the PowerSpeed Pro Swivel Plus and it is a pretty good unit for being cheap and bagless.

Since 2014, I have found a MULTITUDE of cheap vacuums in or by the dumpsters. And most of them simply need a radical cleaning and a belt replacement. And most are also missing attachments, and sometimes other little things are wrong as well. The point is that most of them I have been able to salvage.

Thanks for this thorough review. It's funny: I was about to purchase the Eureka NEU182A Powerspeed on Amazon. but watched your review, considering my apartment is approx 70% Hardwood Floors it doesn't seem like either vacuum would do a good job. Although I were planning on using it to vacuum my rugs and use the hose to pick-up dust on the hardwood floors... hmm

Personally I think budget machines like this aren't that great a value. Sure, they may be competent, but the best way to get a good cheap vacuum is from manufacturer refurbished lots. A Shark NV356E can be had for as little as $80! Good video, though, as per usual.

Just a heads up the eureka now has a newer version released, it has a portable brush tool too. However in my opinion and experience with handling a lot of vacuums through out years of use, I find having a “powered” brush tool being more effective at cleaning up messes on couches and other surfaces. The price point of this vacuum I can say it’s a fair deal for the money.

Love the Bissell Cleanview. I use the robot vacuum for regular cleaning and non-carpet surfaces. I use the Bissell when the carpets are due for some deep cleaning every now and then. The Bissell is great for the non-stop barrage of pet hair from our cats that get into and accumulate in the carpet fibers that the robot vacuum cannot seem to keep up with.

  • @nonelost1

Just yesterday I staged a “battle of three cheap vacuums“… 1… Bissell powerforce bagless model 12B1 2… Bissell powerforce bagged model 1739 3… Bissell cleanview model 82H1 (with HEPA filter and turbo brush) I dumped 3 piles of shredder confetti on my living room floor. All three of them became clogged in both their main hose and in there footer hoses. They were previously free of clogs. The bag in the 1739 and the dirt cups in the other two were empty previously. Though I had not cleaned out the filters. Nevertheless, I was so nonplussed that I got half a mind to spend a lot more money on a vacuum that not only has a dirt sensor, but has a warning light that tells you that your dirt cup or bag is full. I think the problem is half my fault as failure to clean out filters, and to empty the dirt cups/bags when full causes hoses to get clogged. What I really want is one of those vacuum cleaners with the dirt sensor that makes a lot of noise when the carpet is dirty. But when you don’t hear any noise it’s because it has done all of it’s deep cleaning action. True, I don’t normally dump piles of shredder confetti on my carpet. But I do need deep clean action as my allergies cause me to sneeze a lot. I do not have any pets. And most of my single-story condo is carpets. And I’m too lazy most of the time to vacuum. So I’m wondering if I should really get a robotic vacuum. Any help here?

I have a Dirt Devil Express Bagged Canister Vacuum. It works great, it does not have a powered floor nozzle though. I have wood floors throughout my house so having a powered floor nozzle is useless for the most part. I have a few throw rugs which the vacuum works pretty well on, but if you have anything but a few throw rugs or very low pile carpets the non-powered floor nozzle won't cut it. I still have a couple of upright vacuums to get the deep down dirt in the rugs occasionally, but the Dirt Devil Express seems to work quite well and since its a bagged vacuum there aren't any expensive filters to replace, dirt cups to clean out, filters to remove and wash, etc. If I recall I paid $49 for the Dirt Devil Express. Nope its not the best, but its not the worst I'd think. I have an old early 90's Kenmore bagged canister vacuum which still works great, except the hose fell apart and of course you can't get a replacement hose so its completely worthless now :(. It has a powered floor nozzle too.

Plus Sharks don't have fancy multi cyclones that have to be taken apart, dismantled & cleaned every few years when dust & odours build up & start to smell like Dyson's do. With Shark, just maintain & replace your filters every couple years like any bagless vacuum. Also, last time I checked, Shark is offering more fancy features than Dyson does....like the Powered Lift Away models for instance. And those features are what consumers WANT in vacuums in those price ranges. The only disadvantage Shark has is their warranties are worthless, but then again you can always be smart & buy refurbished....save some money & avoid the warranty issue to begin with that way. Is lighter and easier to maneuver. And for me charging via wall mount in our pantry is a big plus, but in an RV the folding Ionflex should be easier to store, and you can charge the battery outside of the vacuum in a separate charger on the counter/cabinet. www.ebay.com/itm/Shark-IONFlex-DuoClean-Cordless-Lightweight-Vacuum-Certified-Refurbished/392113071565?epid=2296822353&hash=item5b4bc2a5cd:g:WDUAAOSwEVlb~HhQ:sc:ShippingMethodStandard!77433!US!-1:rk:3:pf:0

dear Vacuum Wars, Can you please please do a shark r85 vs the Neato D7. I am wondering which one I should get? And I would love it if you did. 😁

Matthew Fraser The r85 is a random navigation vacuum. The airflow is about the same as a D7 but the D7 is a lot more efficient in its cleaning algorithm. The d7 is better, but if you’re on a budget the r85 is great.

I am so conflicted. I found your channel and can afford a more expensive vacuum (looking at the Shark NV801) but then I see this cheap Bissell and continue to wonder if I need to invest a more expensive vacuum. I do not own a cleaning business and I have a small 2 bed apartment that I never let get dirty as I vacuum about twice a week. I am just not sure if I should invest and pay four times as much for a vacuum. Any input?

If you're vacuuming that often & care about keeping a clean home, I would definitely go with the Shark over the Bissell. You will appreciate the Shark's DuoClean brushroll system with the soft fluffy roller in the front to clean hard floors excellently rather than have to sweep. Also bear in mind, with the Shark being a Powered Lift Away model, you will need it to get under lower lying furniture in cramped rooms. And of course the Shark would have superior filtration compared to the Bissell.

For me, between these 2 vacuums, I would 100% take the Bissell over the Eureka. The Bissell having a HEPA Filter on the exhaust & being dual cyclonic win it MAJOR points over the Eureka. In fact, I would go so far as to say that the Eureka or ANY bagless vacuum without HEPA Filtration of some kind is not suitable to be used by a consumer in a home environment and therefore unworthy of consideration by a consumer.

I have the eureka power speed and it is the worst vacuum I have ever owned. Have to change the height setting 3-4 times depending which room I’m in. Can’t stop the brush. It kicks everything out behind it if the height isn’t perfect. My German Shepard’s fur will fill it up in literally minutes then it loses suction. 900sqft I will dump 3-4 times. It can take me 30-45 mins to vacuum/clean 900sqft of carpet with this vacuum. If your time is worth something don’t buy cheap vacuums. Always dumping and cleaning extra “dust cups” and unneeded gizmos. Worst vacuum I ever had. I just don’t understand why these companies even make products that aren’t their best work. Bought a “used” display model dyson from target for the same price as my eureka was new and I will never go back.

I have the bissell and have to say, it’s terrible on hard floors. The amount of debris is throws out the back is painful. Literally painful. I live near the beach and always have a lot of sand in the house. If I use the bissell barefooted I’m constantly peppered with high speed sand granules. It really is rather uncomfortable and I try to not even think about the amount of dirt that is just getting flung to the other side of the room. If you have an entire house that’s carpeted then I would recommend this vacuum but if your a hard floor house, keep looking.

DO NOT BUY THE EUREKA POWER SPEED!!!!! Used it twice and the belt broke. My Shark lasted 3 years of regular use before giving out and was waaaaay better quality for $150 vs the $85 I paid through Amazon for this piece of junk.. If I could have found the same model Shark I would have bought it , but budget dictated and I lost on that one. Don't recommend you waste your money on this one. Very cheaply made as well.
