This is one of the reasons I decided to go the step up to a commercial machine. We have small animals and do a lot of cleanup. Trusting that a machine was going to be solid and reliable for years and could be fixed if necessary was a big factor in buying a Big Green Machine.

I considered buying a carpet cleaner some years ago, but the numerous reviews that said they broke in short order and that repair parts were not available, swayed me against buying vs renting. Don't want to throw away my $. I'll have to take a look here, and re-evaluate whether repairability is a feature of any of these.

I had a very successful janitorial business for 16 yrs (got bored of it). I used the dry carpet method which is a 20-inch brush and a carpet pad in the middle the brush scrubs and the pad deposits the solution and picks it back up. one thing I learned is to use a solution that leaves no residue that will attract dirt (I left some in a lid and let it dry out and felt what was left) My solution ratio was the solution and 1 gallon of clear ammonia (you have to get used to the smell or use less, it WILL go away after about an hour) but ammonia is an excellent cleaner, leaves no residue and dries quickly

OK... the easiest ones to clean are the Hoover mid size like the turbo scrub, power scrub, elites etc.. I mean, everything comes off (even the front lens).. the dirty water tank opens up...the only thing on the machine itself that gets dirty that won't come off is the screen, which can be easily cleaned...even the brushes on the bottom pop off and come apart for cleaning..But with these you have to make sure everything is dry before storing it away...put all the parts and the machine in front of a fan to blow dry... Also, I feel like out of all the home carpet cleaners, these have the best extraction.

Somebody else commented about the Hoover So I figured I'd compare my experience, borrowing my friend's Bissell 2X ProHeat Pet Pro! Since I borrowed it, I had to clean it thoroughly before returning it. I have 2 cats and 2 dogs, one of each that constantly blows their coat. One dog was sick and throwing up everywhere (he has Addison's disease and were just about to find out! He's doing very well, completely back to "normal," with regular treatments ♡) so we had to borrow the machine. If the cats throw up anywhere, it's gonna be my nice rug, so I figured I'd wash that at the same time, and they like to lounge around there and on the bedroom floor (where a majority of the sickness took place, poor pup) So Much Hair I'd wished I could have vacuumed first, there was so much However, as far as I'm aware, I was able to remove all parts of the machine that interacted with the outside (meaning picked up anything from the floor). I did get Super Soaked ™️, figuring out *how* to clean all the parts, and if I didn't have my nice new faucet with super good pressure (re: Super Soaked ™️) I *may* have required a pipe cleaner to help with a clump of hair that got stuck in the front, but it came out fine once I figured it out. All-in-all, I'm pretty sure everything can be removed and cleaned nicely ♡

My house has been a rental for at least 12 years and the carpets had not been replaced even before it became a rental so what should have been blue carpets are mostly getting grey/brown. I rented a rug doctor over a year ago and it barely got the dirt up (it was a slightly different style than these but still a rug doctor and the best they had available at Bunnings) and it was very, very hard work to get what dirt up that I did. My best friend got a Bissell revolution pet and she did my entrance hall which was easily the grossest part of the house, with just hot water it positively ate the dirt, for a 3m2 area it took two clean water tanks and 3 dirty to get the carpet almost ✨ sparkling ✨. I was amazed at just how much dirt came up and how easy it was to use. I will never rent a carpet cleaner again, instead I bought a Bissell revolution pet of my own, it hasn't gotten here yet but I am so hyped!

@@MrTokyoUbaYokai the Bissell revolution pet has done absolute wonders, there is nothing that can really be done about the carpets except get them replaced. @@MrTokyoUbaYokai Dude... if the Bissell works.. why waste money on a pro. Pro cleaning isn't significantly different than what a midrange carpet cleaner does... just someone else does it. Also if it worked well without any detergents that means less will get attracted to the carpet later (many pro services use detergents and if they aren't carefully removed they'll attract even more dirt than before). Probably getting a powerwash elite myself as it is on sale at home depot for like $120... can't beat that. And it has the spinning brushes rather than rotating ones so should be easier on any longer carpets I may use it on.

I found your videos very helpful. Now as for the pets that leave the stains. Dont waste 100-200 on a flap for your security door. As you have to cut the diamond shapes and fly screen out to fit such a door,. just cut the diamonds etc and silicone on a piece of plastic. Add some magnets if you like, youve just saved 100-200 bucks. Works just as well. If you dont have flies, just cut out a hole.

Great video and comparison. thanks for your effort. I like the tried and true Rug Doctor for a simple reason - larger water tanks. While I have used them to clean houses, I typically rent to clean cars. Most people would never ride in their car again is they saw the amount of dirt that comes out of their seats. They would never believe their carpets. I will go through 20 tank refills easily and often as much as 30. So a smaller tank cleaner could double that easily. For those who think it is silly, the typical clean, well-cared-for used car I have purchased and cleaned has somewhere around 70,000 to 100,000 miles on it. I can expect the first 7 tanks to look like the Mississippi River. On the clear vacuum handheld attachments, it looks like you are sucking coffee out of the seats usually. These are cars that the seller thinks is clean.

The problem with vax machines is that they’re not easy to clean after use and you have to remove many many screws to get to all the parts for cleaning. Same. My parents have one and all siblings and an aunt all borrow it and it has never had a single problem (not even a clog). I prespray using a professional detergent (there's usually a professional carpet cleaning store within driving distance of most people) and get better results than carpet cleaning companies.

I bought the Hoover You mentioned in the more expensive cleaners but the spot cleaner was in the handle, like a wand. Anyway, I liked it because the brushes were removable making them easier to clean. If you have more pets than you need and must clean carpets at least once every other month, monthly sometimes here, do not get that machine. I loved it but the first one broke after 6 months (rollers quit turning and you can’t replace the belt). They gave me a new one. It stopped after about 7 months. And I cleaned it after every use making sure no hair was in the roller areas. So when it broke I ordered the Bissell Big Green cleaner because that was what we had to rent to finish cleaning my carpet right before Christmas. I liked it so I bought one for my Christmas present (one of them anyway. 😁😁😂😅😁😁.. ). Replacement parts can be ordered for it so I hope it lasts years.

@@rifayahamed2640 definitely vacuum before using it otherwise it will probably clog with all of the debris. I don’t know vacuums & carpet cleaners well enough to explain why you shouldn’t, but the Pet Pro is built for water extraction, not dry vacuuming.

One thing to consider that is not mentioned here or at most review sites is the brush style on the carpet. Most of my friends in the carpet profession prefer the rug doctor with no brush or the spin scrub. They have seen that the roller brush that is typically found on most vacuums and cleaners such as on the bissell is hard on the carpet and will wear it out quicker. The spin scrub brush style is easier on the carpet.

@@fat_basturd5345 I've had both in the past and only had to replace them when I loaned them to friends and they f'd it up trying to clean it or vacuuming stairs with it falling down them. I saw on another video deep pile rugs you should get the spin brushes otherwise the path width rollers can suck/bog out on them. I do have to agree with you on one thing which is that the build quality of the Hoover seemed tougher than the Bissell I've had in the past. Now keep in mind I vacuum regularly, hepa air cleaner, thin carpet, non-smoker/incense/drug, all favorable situations and in this situation I'd simply recommend go with whatever is on sale, vacuum the carpet with your normal machine thoroughly, learn how to use the machine, pre-treat the carpet (measure the cleaning chemical, mix it in a spray bottle, evenly spray the area then wait 5-10 minutes before carpet shampooing stage to allow the chemicals to loosed the filth), the one thing people seem to forget is you need to thoroughly vacuum the home before carpet shampooing it. People need to understand that most of these machines aren't shop vac tough or pro-machine tough, and slow passes is a must.

Bought the Bissell Pet Pro but found out that there is a major issue in that the bristles _never_ stop rotating. This caused an issue with carpet wear and fuzzing when I was using it as a upholstery cleaner. As the carpet had long nap, it caused a lot of drag and resulted in the belt smelling like burning rubber. Having owned a Hoover that lasted for 20 years prior that stopped the bristles when the handle was upright, I viewed this as a design defect (which was confirmed by their customer service) and returned the Bissell and ordered another Hoover. And the dirty water tank seemed very low volume, resulting in having to empty significantly more times than I was used to.

Since I live in a 1BR apartment and do not have enough space to move all the furniture to another room, I am thinking of spending 2 days cleaning the carpet for my living room and bedroom so I can move my stuff from one place to the other. In that case, Is it OK to leave the machine as it is overnight? Or do I need to clean it (especially the brush part) every time after use? 🤔

Just got the Bissell Revolution 2X Pet Pro in part due to this review as well as other consistently positive reviews. It works great. A couple of cons: The trigger is a bit stiff - I'm a big guy with strong hands and it gets fatiguing on my index finger. I envision this would be problematic for a typical woman. Also the handle could be more ergonomic - it's a fairly heavy machine and I find the corners start to dig in to my fingers - I'm wearing my arborist gloves for some padding and going to get some baseball bat wrap and maybe wrap it around padding on the underside to round out the shape. The low capacity of the dirty water tank is a PITA but I'm going to do my whole house in stages with long-neglected carpet so ultimately it's going to be less expensive than renting a Rug Doctor and this is a lot less cumbersome to use, can get under things and just move them aside a few inches instead of having to totally clear an area. I'm going to seriously look into fabricating a larger lower tank out of fiberglass or Lexan. Yeah, letter of the Bissel law it would probably void the warranty if they knew about it but like they're ever going know - lol. Forget the instructions on how many inches per second - go over the selected area slowly. Also I'm using one of the DIY detergent recipes found on KZread using Tide, OxiClean, LA's Totally Awesome Cleaner at a fraction of the obscenely overpriced solution in the stores. They include fabric softener in the recipe but I'm leaving it out and concentrating on getting the carpet clean. I'm also doubling up on the amount they say to use again because of the neglected condition of the carpet. You're going to have to make multiple passes if the carpet is really dirty. I'm on the 4th or 5th slow pass over the same approx 6x10 area and the water is still coming out brown, maybe slightly less brown than the first pass. I suggest pre-treating the carpet - get a cheap sprayer, spray some kind of cleaner in a liberal amount to really wet the carpet and use a clean broom to work it in to start breaking up the grime with special attention to stains.
