[CHEAP, EASY AND DURABLE]- The Secret to Making Cardboard Bases for Wargames, Dioramas & Scenery

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Bases are essential for building wargames terrain, dioramas or any other miniature or model building projects. The problem is, specialty materials for building sturdy and durable bases can cost more than the models themselves.... But there is a solution us cardboard! Cardboard is frequently considered a poor option for basing. Sure it is free, but most miniature builders think it is not sturdy enough. But it is! You can build the perfect model base for no cost at all from cardboard with a secret technique that I will reveal in this video. Please check it out and remember to subscribe.
If you like miniature wargaming of any type including Warhammer, 40k, dioramas, Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (D&D), Black Powder, napoleonics, historicals and Bolt Action, I suggest you watch as this tutorial as many of the techniques featured here are essential for new hobbyists.

Hi I use the technique in this video. May I recommend that when you use the masking tape, that you have the neat edges showing on the bottom of the base, and all the slightly untidy folds on the upper part of the base. This way the untidy bits can be covered with your sand/grit and so on. Hope this helps. Regards Lexi.

Tip: if you want extra durability you can push trimmed down barbecue sticks through the corrugations in the bottom layer of the base and glue them in place.

Yep this is a great method. I have cardboard bases dating back to the early 90's and they still looks brand new.. They are used and abused with no special care. The sealing process is very important and we normally use 2 layers for durability.

@@MiniatureLandscapeHobbies I've always been amuse by the way people outside the hobby react. They treat you like some kind of hoarder. As I go to lengths to get something everyone else ignores or treats as rubbish. To a degree they are correct but I see it as recycling for a better purpose. Stones that look like a large rock at this scale or that scale. Interesting twigs, cardboard, bottle tops and containers are all ingredients to a visually pleasing top top for me.

This really works well for jungle terrain. I did a commission for a client the same way and he was super pleased with the result. Good luck on the build and contact me if you have any questions!
