That drivers insurance should pay you for the cost of the machines. Outside of that, if you thoroughly dry them before you start them most of them should be salvageable.

The parameters of this machine are missing. The memory protection battery was lost due to damage. The solution is to find a machine of the same model and copy it, then input it into the machine through the RS232 port. Or you may have enough patience and perseverance to input the parameters recorded in the manual into the machine one by one. Believe me, there are thousands of parameters in total, all containing 0 and 1. That's just a nightmare.😭😭😭

I had a WSC-6 once upon a time. Paid $500 for it, fixed the turret problem and sold it for around $1500. I recommend doing a parameter backup of both machines. You'll have to Write down/take pictures of the PMC/Diagnostics. The 0 Model A's you can't punch those out.

Check for buildup of chips on the Z axis it may be overloading causing the breaker to trip . I’m amazed they both started after getting wet

I was the Maint. manager in a small shop. We had 6 WSC-6's they were good production machines with few problems. They are imported machines that Warner Swasey sold before their demise. Biggest problems were with spindle belts, they are a strange plasticized material. Slip the belts once and they are DONE!! PITA to change!! You may be able to get new overlays for the control panel. I had New ones made for the WSC6's.

Just wanted to add that WSC series machines were built by Murata for Bendix, sold as Warner-Swasey's

These would be good candidates for control retrofits. Just gut the controls and start with 2023. The mechanical stuff will go for many more decades.

Absolutely I think I may sell one and keep the other one to retrofit. I’m pretty sure the servo drives our step and direction so I should be able to tie right into them with a modern control like UC CNC, that I use on my plasma table.

I bought a 80s hurco mill and updated all the Cnc stuff to a new computer and drivers and it works great. those old machines can make for a good Donner for cnc DIY projects to convert all that old junk to new digital drivers and computers. There are a few companies that design all new stuff that can convert those older machines to use all the new state of art hardware and software. I would just make sure that ways and that the machine itself is not wore out. If it not there pretty easy to update.

As others have said, let the electronics fully dry out and they should be ok. I bought a car amplifier years ago that got soaked when then fire sprinklers went off at the dealer. It was dry as a bone when I got it and it worked perfectly when I fired it up. Good luck.

you're going to usually have a REF button or something on the controller, it looks like on this unit there is a "setup" button that is flashing that is the smoking gun. Its actually not far from homing a 3D printer before you begin a program

Nice machines, I like messing around with old machines like this, for future reference the NOT READY alarm you see can be attributed to many things when it is not displayed normally, most commonly it is a malfunction in the emergency stop circuit, missing parameters, stuck on a hard limit on power up, or worst of all a defective main board. As for your blown breaker when homing, not fully sure how these particular old fanuc drives are configured, but it may be as simple as a defective limit switch causing a Z axis overload when it is going into to the hard limit past the switch. simple to troubleshoot and fix if so.

try holding down can+p while powering up, that should disable the limit switches if you are suspecting them, inspect all i/o cards for power and ground.

I'd really go to town on the drivers insurance in the first instance. Try to screw them for every penny. I have had a number of instances of control gear being accidently soaked, spraying a load of WD40 over everything certainly helps and then some gentle heat and a good draft. You need the WD on pretty quick to help prevent the corrosion.

Keep going on these vintage CNC machines! I have 30 years into this trade. Love seeing what you are doing here. You have a great space and remind me of myself 30 years ago! I still have a 1980 More Seiki SL3B that runs great. Yasnac 2000G control. Still makes precision parts all day. Those WS lathes look nice for 2-3" diameter parts. The Fanuc O series is a bit clunky, but they work. The Fanuc 18 was a huge jump up from the O controls. If you see lathes with the 18 in the future, jump on those. I have 4 lathes with the 18 and its still my favorite control. All the best to you!

I bought them without seeing them so I’ll be doing a win they run video as soon as they come in. I taught myself CNC on a Matsuura with Yasnac controller but it’s need forever since I’ve used one. Such a shame the trucker didn't put a tarp on them, especially on the two older machines. I am curious - do places still run these old machines, or are they essentially greasy paperweights?

In China, I am currently using a CNC machine produced in 1988, made in Japan. So far, this machine can control a tolerance of 5 microns.😀😀

When I was a CNC operator one of the machines I operated was an old late 70's early 80's index CNC. Honestly loved that machine since it had a conveyor belt loader system that you just sit the parts onto little cars and the machine would grab it and take it. It had a index control computer that swings like most fanuc controllers but you had manual controls on the machine itself. Was a process to shut down for the day. Controller, turret, chip conveyor, coolant pumps 1 and 2, loader and unloader arm, and parts loading conveyor.

Rule of thumb with any cnc machine, if its paid for and you can get it running/keep it running for next to nothing then do it, because save for juice and air/ tooling, as long as its making a part its making money. Old machines like this have good homes in allot of jobshops in america, not a whole lot you can't create with a Lathe.

Wow!

Anything electronic will work if fully dried before turning it on. Mechnical stuff not so much. best option is bags of salt to soak up moisture. Road salt is cheap as hell and you can pack pillowcases full of it into machines to soak every last bit of moisture out of the air. Make sure to lay down some plastic sheets first to keep salt dust out of the machine.

To be fair... With the amount of much cheaper cnc control gardware out there, one could always put Centroid controllers on a messed up machine. But it is a pain in the ass and its not for everyone.

@@prestigemanufacturing2611 i run a 2001 YCM lathe with fanuc 0T controls. with mine, when i fire it up i turn on the NC power, release the emergancy Estop, switch the dial to jog axis, make sure i have room for the machine to Home in both X and Z, then swtich the dial to home the machine. once thats done, the machine will operate as normal

Jog is disabled in programmed setup so it wont matter if anyone swings it You have to put it in manual setup and choose if you want x or y axe Good luck Ill check here if you have anymore questions

Trying to move the machine with your hand while it is on is a very bad idea. I know a machine tool repair man that did that, the machine kicked on and went to home. It sucked his arm around the ball screw broke it in 20+ places and way covers peeled the skin off his arm like a banana. Not worth risking your fingers/limbs.

Not ready means you have to home it Come close to the jaw with the - buttons then move away 4 or 6 inches with the + buttons and it should catch itselves

The flickering is caused by the refresh rate of the screen being lower than the frame rate of your recording device.

Seems like a score to me. What about the possibility of an insurance claim for the damage? Even if you didn’t pay extra for insurance, the lack of a tarp changes the contract completely. I all of the riggers I know have to have insurance for such things. Cheers man.

You were super lucky with these two, I had a complete dud of a lathe that I scrapped and now the replacement that I bought was delivered by a cretin who damaged the bodywork lifting it with a hiab and then left it outside uncovered for 4 weeks. I'm currently still evaluating the damage. 😢

Make a claim against the carrier's insurance for the manuals, your time and any damage. Also demand a refund for what you paid for tarping. I know dealing with insurance sucks. I just hate the idea of the scumbag steering wheel holder (I won't dignify him with the term driver) getting away Scot free and going on to screw other people.
