​@@valerieirvin249 BLM is "excess" land and most all of it is in the Southwest or "undesirable" areas, arid, poor vegetation, limited water. There are large BLM parcels every year auctioned for development to wealthy entrepreneurs. The amount of BLM lands shrinks every year. Use it while we still have it. Monies collected are burned up by our government.

A tent can also save your spot, so someone knows that you’re there so that if you leave your spot you get it back when you return

I was thinking that, too. At first I thought of the rocks suggested in a previous video, but a tent says, "Occupied." My daughter found a pop up beach tent (in case you're a good tent is "removed" buy a bad actor) that's all one piece and folds flat like a pancake and comes w a little carrier. 🚐☁️☁️

For people on a tight budget, this is the place to stay, even though there have already been 1,988 videos posted on KZread already about the LTVA's, this one was pretty thorough.....

I find it really helps to know some of the ins and outs of a campsite before camping there.

That was brave of you to go into the toilet. I've seen some that made me want to find a bush to go behind. That's why I'll always have my own toilet in whatever I camp in. It certainly doesn't have to be fancy, and can even be a bucket with a bag, but it has to be mine exclusively. That's one of the few things that I refuse to compromise on.

If you use the pit toilet, I suggest bringing your own TP, putting down some TP on the seat to sit on, bringing your own hand wipes to use to wash your hands, & to use on the door handle when you leave. I've got my pop-up shower tent & portable toilet, so I can avoid the pit toilet. Thanks for the tour and all the detailed info❣️

But there were a couple times we had to and oh, my, dear sweet Lord. You know how kids are. "Don't touch *immediately starts touching everything they can reach because the terror on your face is hilarious to them and proceeds to grab you with said hands* 😳 " He no longer thinks it's funny but that was a challenging couple of years 😄

Blue Boys are a portable tank, you empty your black water tank from your rv into it and then take it to dump rather than having to break camp each time you need to dump. They really come in handy if your holding tanks are small. Many also have totes to pick up potable water to put in their water tank rather than moving their rigs. There is also a grey tank for your grey water. Typically there is a pump to get the grey or black water from your rig to the portable tanks and another pump at the station where it says blue boys only. That should, in theory, prevent spilling onto the ground. Doesn't always go so perfectly but usually does.

Most vehicles have a key with a remote you can use to flash your lights at night this would help you to find your van in the dark, and then you would know you are at the right one. Thanks for the tour.

We did our first adult "semi-campout" in the N. GA Mtns last fall. It was EPIC! Borrowed a camper to boondock in. I brought simple things I knew we'd enjoy (haven't had McDs or any other fast food in 21 yrs). Maple sausage & scrambled eggs in veggy wraps, chicken chili in the cast iron wok, sauteed squash & zuchinni swirls w garlic & ginger with air fried chicken strips. Green tea spritzers. The fridge was small, but we had a cooler, too. I had made our own walking sticks a few weeks before out of fallen oak branches (I saw them on Amazon, but wanted our own...now I KNOW why people charge so much on Etsy to make unique ones! My hands got a workout but hubs loved his!) Checking out little roadside apple stands, hiking Amicalola Falls, driving up Brass Town Ball (highest point in GA), then finding a spot to camp out for the night, checking out the Moonshine festival! What a blast! We have increasingly become disappointed with the hotel options... even with the higher end ones. It was just seem that they would...oh..I don't know...CARE...but maybe that's just me🤷‍♀️ So for the $$ we had been spending over the last few getaways, we looked into the.small RV as an option, called a friend, and gave it a try and we're HOOKED! I know it's nowhere near all butterflies and rainbows... But we are willing to take that trade off to be able to be somewhat self-sufficient, not have to lug all our stuff from the car to a hotel room with ogling eyes and then the idea of forgetting something back in the car, breakfast that really shouldn't be called breakfast, and then mattresses that have us waking up feeling worse than when we got there. Looking forward to our next journey 🚐☁️☁️

It is not as big as Quartzite, for sure, but you can stealth camp there for free Nobody bothers you because it is deserted at night except for the night creatures like the tree frogs, iguanas, etc. You will be roughing it ! Rain, fog, heat, humidity, mosquito, bugs, spiders, boas, etc. Must be prepared! 3000+ miles above sea level oh but it is worth the adventure! I can go on and on about me trying to live there...

I can relate to losing your way when walking the dog at night! I was camping in the desert at Anza-Borrego-we crossed the sand “road” for my pup to diddle around before doing her business, and couldn’t see my van sitting by itself. Easy to get turned a few degrees, and then nothing is familiar-or in this case, all I could see was sand and creosote bush. Thanks for a really helpful video!

This is my third winter out here, their are 8 different LTVA areas you can stay at with one sticker. A couple of them are in California etc. they will give you info when you pay or you can find it online. I have been staying at the one in Yuma because it is about 5-10 degrees warmer and I have yet to see it freeze. Yuma is 60 miles south of Quartzsite Az and it is also lower in elevation.

I plan to visit the Yuma and Hot Springs LTVAs in the near future.

You can get a paid sticker at any of the LTVA'S. If south is closed, look for a flying flag. The flag indicates that office is open. You do need exact cash though.

It is great during late fall and winter. Quite hot in many areas on late spring and summer, except Flagstaff or parts of White Mountain area. Much of Colorado is nice during these summer.

By pit toilet I take that it is a huge hole in the ground. We here in Australia call them drop pit or long drop toilets. The lid stays closed to stop flys and other creepy crawlers.

Or.park right near the front like I did at Plomosa Road. 🤣 Another way is with landmarks. After I figured this out I used the 15mph sign as my landmark for.where to turn in when returning at night and the parked right near the turn in. But no.more wandering on foot at night!!!

I do have a question.. if they're not there on Wednesdays and Thursdays at the laposa South and you travel into the park will you be in trouble for parking there without paying because it was closed? Or do they have a drop box for putting the money in along with your information on a paper that you fill out? I know nothing about RV traveling but hope too soon . Thank you! I am told that if you come in late at night after they close it is OK to buy a pass the next morning. That's what I did. If that is the case it shouldn't be a problem coming in on Thursday. As far as Wednesday, I don't know. The Tyson LTVA across the street sells the passes so you could check there. Or look up the Yuma BLM office online and call or email them with that question.

I’ve read where if you’re not self contained you have to camp close to the bathrooms .

That us true. At thr La Posa South LTVA you are supposed to be within 500ft of a bathroom if you are not sefl contained. Operative words here being "supposed to be." At least one of the LTVAs does not allow non self contained campers at all.

There are some many other financial aspects you did not cover, like buying the house and the where the house is gonna be placed on to call home. It’s a very expensive process. Welcome from Australia. It stands for Long Term Visitor's Area. There are several where you can stay for 7 months for $180. You can go and come as you please or just stay or go from campground to campground. There are other ones you can stay at fir free for up to 14 days consecutively. Then you have to move at least 25 miles to stay at another one for 14 days and can then return. return

I try to use landmarks, including certain rvs or tents. Also, I try to keep the main road in sight so I can always get back to it. If all else fails I ask for help🤣

It looks like a freeway for RV's - that would be lots of traffic to deal with all the time. Was this a busy time of year like January down south?

The areas are is sonlarge you can park away from others if you choose to even with a lot of rvs and campers onsite. There sometimes was a long line to dump Grey amd black tanks. But if you went early before everyone got there you could avoid the lines. I found everything very manageable.

I am seriously considering selling my farm and purchasing an Rv and living in it fulltime and I panic when I consider all the things that I will have to consider like; Mail and water & dumping & gas prices & trash & what will I do if I get sick or what happens if the economy crashes and I’m out of my comfort zone of 50 years and trying to survive like a nomad in unknown territory…. Do you know what most folks do for mail? Do they use americas mailbox? I am single and have no one to rely on for mail and such sooo I went on the website of americas mailbox last night and got even more confused at the options and the fact that I would have to spend a night in South Dakota to gain domicile and then have to get a drivers license in SD…. It kinda was a bummer to me for it may be just too much for me to handle at age 50… well God knows… I shall keep studying and learning and then try to make the best decision going forward and ultimately do what God so wills me to do and simply trust that He will work all things together for my good for I do love Him~ Blessings to you Carol ❤

Do.you mind.me asking what general area.your farm is in? If I might make a suggestion, before making such a huge decision why don't you set up whatever vehicle you have and do some camping in it and really see if this lifestyle is for you. Attend some van life gatherings, which you can find online, meet some other women living this way and really get an idea of what it is like. Watching videos online really does not give.one a true sense of what it is like. Also ask yourself why you would be doijg this. I met someone who is on the road for 3 months testing it out. I'm 70 and have been doing this for 4 years. There's a mail place in town. Also Bob Wells Cheaprvliving did a great video on how to get mail.

I live on the 35 acre farm here in Pennsylvania where I’ve lived 50 years and inherited from my parents after caring for them before they departed to Glory and it’s getting hard for me BOTH physically & financially to maintain this farm so this is why I am looking into selling in order to be able to buy a vehicle without having to take out a loan…I wish I could afford to buy and then test the waters before I sell but financially I am unable to do that… I have a Jeep truck and bought a roof top tent in the fall because it’s all I could afford and thought it would give me the ability to get out to test the waters yet physically it’s just not safe for me to go up and down that ladder plus I realized I need heat and ability to plug in my CPAP so I learned the tent won’t work so now I am trying to sell it ….

@@maryolson411 thank you for your wisdom~ I will have to try and find Bobs video regarding how to handle mail… do you still have a home address and then just have your mail forwarded to the mail place where you camp?

IMHO I would say you should definitely try it first. This is my first year full time on the road, our home was sold for medical bills, then my husband passed, and I launched out onto the road. I travelled 12000 miles, FL to SW USA to N Maine, to FL Keys, back out to SW to AZ desert, and I’m not enjoying most of it. I don’t like living “in-between”, In between places, parked in between strangers, in between events. And finding a place to park as you travel is a nightmare, more No’s than Yes’s. The greatest obstacle is loneliness and boredom. Now ….. I’m sitting in the dry dusty desert with not enough to do, and gas prices are horrible so no just driving here and there. My rig is too big (mistake) so traveling isn’t easy, parking is impossible, small towns and cafes are a no-go because you can’t find parking or fit into gas stations. So if you get on road get the smallest rig you can live in so you can actually travel cheaper, easier, and actually stop and see things. But that means you leave everything behind and live without your comfort or security. I thought this life would be like I remember camping……. Friends gather in a circle, morning coffee at campfire, evening dinner at campfire, hiking and fishing together. Nope. It was explained to me …… “These are our homes, not our vacations, and like in neighborhoods people don’t live in each other’s pockets so we don’t park close to each other. We don’t have coffee in the morning or dinner in the evening on our lawns with our neighbors. It’s a regular home life mentality, only in a vehicle.” So I am parked 100+ yards from closest nomad friends. We usually won’t see each other everyday, and if we do see each other it’s only for a quick chat. Campfire gatherings happen rarely. There are caravans, and you might find one, but they may only last a short while, and how do you find one made up of people you like ? And afterwards than what? I can’t wait till temps let me get back to my little piece of property where I can park my rig and enjoy my garden, my yard, local art & music events. I will be making adjustments so winter can’t run me off anymore. Perhaps you could sell all but a small plot of your farm, get a tiny house on it, and a van to travel part time. Me personally, my big rig is going to get parked and if I decide to travel again it will be in a truck camper. So the next mechanical event doesn’t also include the cost of a hotel for a week. $$$$$ ouch. Best wishes and Good Luck. 🙏🌹

I stayed there for 3 days and I must say that I was not impressed with the site. They call it a "camp ground" but its basically a graveled plot of land. When I stay at a campground I expect to see green grass, a body of water, and trees. It should be called a BLM parking lot. The video was great at showing what the stie was all about. When you look at the number of campers, the ratio of people to the number of toilets is huge. Take your own toilet paper because each time I used the toilet it was out of paper. Where I stayed you could not walk to the toilet, I had to drive about a mile. I guess you get what you pay for and for 6 months that is great, but I was just as comfortable staying in a truck stop and the bathrooms were nicer.

The problem at truck stops.is you can only stay for a limited time. Many folks need somewhere to park for very little money for an extended period of time.

Is this place noisy at night? Meaning like outdoor parties/loud music and what not? The engine noise can't be helped but I wonder about people socializing loudly at night? But now that i think about it, i guess its so big that if you want quiet you could just park away from as many people as possible.

There are a few groups that are noiser than others, but very few and quiet time is from 10pm and it is pretty much observed from everything I've seen. But like you say, don't.like your neighbors.just move.

How do we extend the BLM areas into states that dont offer BLM camping?? Im from Ohio, there is noting like ive seen and stayed at like in Quartzsite Az. It would be nice to have BLM areas to camp in all continental 48 states. Including Alaska!!!! Again how do we have this available in other STATES.

It was surprisingly warm during the last few days I was there and in the 50's at night. Much warmer than the first few days which got down to 32 at night!!

It is on 95 going south approximately two or three mile past the main part of town when you turn onto 95 from Main Street in Quartzsite. You will pass another LTVA on the left.

You actually pay to stay in that “trailer park”? Glad I got an education!

Can people take showers there or do you need to be self-contained?

No. There are not showers at this location. But I can sho you a really simple ajd cheap way to take a shower if you like.

Yep, if.you stay the entire season from Sept..15 to April 15. Hou can also.m9ve around to.other LTVA locations in Arizona and California. But you have to check which ones require you to have a black tank.
